Fax: (403) 785-0727 We Give Thanks! The month of September has come to an end and as we settle in for the month of October we give thanks for a great school year start up at Bluffton School. Can it be that Thanksgiving is only less than two weeks away? And before we know it the ghouls and ghosts of Halloween will be upon us. Students can look forward to new learning opportunities as well as extracurricular activities, field trips and school wide events throughout the month ahead! We really couldn’t have asked for better weather as students, staff, parents and community members took part in our 35th annual Terry Fox Walk/Run in support of cancer research. It was an excellent event and I am very proud of the participation and effort put forth by everyone involved! Pledges continue to roll in and we have reached the $3,200 mark of our $5,000 goal. We will continue to update fundraising amounts which are posted outside the office. A special thank you to Nana and Papas store, Lor-Al Springs and Burrage Veterinary Clinic for donations of water, refreshments and snacks for all participants to enjoy upon completion of the 5, 10 or 15 km walk/run. I would like to thank all parents who were able to join us for the first school council meeting which was held the evening of September 24th. It was nice to see a number of E: [email protected] - from the Principal’s Desk you step up and fill the various positions on council for the year. Please refer to the school council minutes on the school website for specific positions that were filled. Our girl’s A volleyball league is underway with our girls winning matches at the school versus Father Lacombe and Rimbey. They look forward to a strong showing this season with many of the girls being returning players. The girl’s B volleyball team has been practicing hard and also won their first match vs Ponoka Christian last night. I commend our athletes and coaches who will represent Bluffton School at their games and tournaments this season. A big thank you to Rick and Karen Boyes and Jamie MacKinaw for the many hours they have and will be putting in with their girls. Go Stingers Go!!! The Cross Country running team was involved in the Wolf Creek run Oct. 1st in Alix and then will be off to Lacombe on the 17th for the CWAJHAA run. Our student athletes continue to impress us as they represent our school at these annual events. Please remember that communication is of utmost importance at Bluffton School. Should you have any questions, concerns, and/or suggestions, we would welcome hearing from you. As always, please call or email me for an appointment if you have any concerns or questions. Thank you for your continued support of Bluffton School. - Mr. Krauss Page 2 BLUFFTON SCHOOL NEWSLETTER The Rimbey Curling Club would like to invite youth to try out our Junior Curling Program. Starting in November, the curling rink will be open on Thursday evenings from 5:00 until 6:00 for children age 7 to 18. This will give them an opportunity to try the sport of curling. During this time the children will have a chance to learn the fundamentals of sweeping, throwing and the basics of how the game works. This is an open night so you can come and go as needed. If your child is interested please give Teri Boyce a call at (403)588-3326. Terry Fox Walk It was perfect weather for our annual Terry Fox Run/Walk on Friday, September 19. All students and staff participated in the event along with a few parents. We have raised approximately $3200.00 so far! We’re hoping to make it to our $5000 goal and celebrate with a whole school afternoon activity. All pledge forms and donations collected were due last Thursday. If your child has not returned their form and money collected yet, please do so ASAP. A big thank you goes out to Lor Al Springs for the donation of the water, the Bluffton Veterinary Services for the delicious bakery cookies and bananas and Nana & Papa’s Country Store for the juice boxes. Page 3 BLUFFTON SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Magazine Fundraiser Once again this year, our school is doing a fundraiser related to magazine subscription sales. We have lots of positive feedback about this program. Please remember that by renewing your magazine subscriptions with this fundraiser, you will continue to receive your magazine for another term (usually one year) from the date you first received it. For some, depending on the cycle of the magazine, it will be one year from this coming December, January, or February. Remember, some magazines are every month, while others are one issue every 2—3 months. We appreciate your support as this fundraiser provides money for helping offset costs from field trips, bus usage, gas for the bus, bus repairs, athletic programs, special speakers and events, and lots of little “extra” things that all involve students. The money ends up helping every student in the school. Your support is appreciated. When students participate, they also get an opportunity to collect some really neat prizes—each subscription sold earns one point which can be used to obtain prizes. The first week of selling subscriptions offer double points per magazine, which makes the points add up quickly. Thank-you for your continued support!
