The title for the fire truck was issued on July 22,
1940.
Firefighters ĐŽŶƟŶƵĞĚ
Harrison Steel currently has seven employees who
are volunteer firefighters and who are there for
their community members when tragedy strikes.
Each has his own reason for volunteering on his
community fire department – one HS firefighter
has followed in his dad’s footsteps, another grew
up watching the television show Emergency which

The truck is a 1940 Ford tanker; the pump,
mounted right behind the cab, is a 6 cylinder
Chrysler.
The truck and pump are both military models.
The military may have given the truck to Harrison Steel for
fire protection due to HS support during WWII. Harrison
Steel produced tractors, tanks, and gun mount pedestals as
part of the war effort.
The fire truck may have been used first to haul castings to
Caterpillar. When it was no longer needed for that purpose,
Wade Harrison I made the decision to keep (and possibly
repurpose – which may explain the fact that the tanker is a
Ford and the pump is a Chrysler) the truck. It was subsequently used at HS by the Harrison Steel Fire Brigade.
The fire truck may also have been acquired to insure that
the company could get fire insurance since the property was
outside of city limits and possibly outside the protection of
city firefighters.
The pump on the truck is no longer operational.
The odometer reads 3409 miles.
The furthest known destination of the truck is Veedersburg.
It has made appearances in the Potowatomi Festival Parade
and other community events on numerous occasions.

Honoring All Who Served
Please allow us the privilege of dedicating the next
issue of Tapping Out to all of the HS employees who
have served in the armed forces either on home
ground or around the world. We would like to publish
a photo you may have from your time of service taken
when you were wearing fatigues or a dress uniform.
All photos can be submitted to Lori McAdams or Lynne
Lanham in the HR Department or to Kenna Reynolds
in Engineering. Photos will be returned promptly after
scanning. Thank you!
Silent bids are now being taken for a Case 580D
backhoe. The backhoe has a bad engine and will be
sold AS IS and WHERE IS. The minimum bid must exceed $1,768.00. Turn sealed bid with name and bid

Bringing Archery to Attica

I knew that this was a project that Skip Trafford was
going to turn into a personal mission, and I didn’t want
to miss out.
I asked Superintendent

scope of the new archery
