They included:

Iris Jacobson, Program Support Teacher at Oaklawn, Lakeside, Read, and Washington Elementary
Kathy Huddleston, Program Support Teacher at Oshkosh North and Merrill Middle and Elementary
Jill Williams, Transition Teacher at Oshkosh North High School
“Because of You”
Washington Elementary staff participated in a half day retreat to recognize that they make a
difference in the lives of students.
Stacey Otto, a social worker and Washington school alumni, presented to the staff about the
effects of trauma, resiliency, and filling students’ “invisible suitcases” with connection and
positivity.
OASD Receives Literacy Innovation Award
The Oshkosh Area School District recently received a Financial
Literacy Innovation Award of $7686! The funding represents the
increasing emphasis by the Wisconsin DPI to assist schools in
implementing Wisconsin Model Academic Standards for Personal
Financial Literacy and forge meaningful partnerships within the
school district and community.
SkillsUSA Team Competes at State
This year’s Oshkosh North High School SkillsUSA State Team consisted of 24 students from both Oshkosh
North High School and Merrill Middle School. The contest, hosted in Madison, had over1,200 participants
competing in over 60 contests.
The team came back with seven medals: one gold, three silver, and three bronze.
Greydon Wright, a 7th grade Merrill Middle School student, repeated as a State Champion in Prepared Speech.
His gold medal performance from last year was great, but this year he had a perfect score!
Emily Leverence finished with a silver medal in Rocketry, followed by a bronze medal performance by Alex
Theys in the same category.
At the high school level, Quentin Miller, a four-year club member, scored a silver medal in CNC Machining, as
well as a silver medal in Extemporaneous Speech. These were Quentin’s first medals ever at State.
Morgan Hammen, a freshman, earned a bronze medal in Culinary Arts and also won a $1,000 scholarship to the
Culinary Art Institute of New York, if she chooses to attend there.
The last award, a bronze medal, was earned by the Community Service Project Team. This team of Kianna
Colburn, Randy Stussy, and Anthony Wegenke built three neighborhood libraries for the city of Oshkosh, which
will be placed in three parks this spring. They have been designing, building, and working on this project for the
entire school year. They have been documenting their work and partaking in city meetings to obtain project
approval and placement in the city.
Thank you to all of the parents, teachers, community members, and businesses who helped them get to the
State level this year. Without their continued support for the program, this trip would not have been possible.
Smith students rode their bikes
to school on Wednesday, May 7
to promote exercise and healthy
living.
They welcomed Fang, Miss
Oshkosh, Clash, and athletes
from Oshkosh North and West
who came to help celebrate this
special event!

scarcity, opportunity cost, advertising, and all the
ins and outs of running a successful business.
