Metrolink & the 91 Project: Your Commuting Connection Moving Riverside County “Fast Forward” About the 91 Project The Riverside County Transportation Commission is leading the $1.3 billion 91 Project, which will expand and improve the 91 between the Riverside County/Orange County line in Corona and Pierce Street in Riverside. The 91 is one of the most congested highways in the country. It now carries more than 280,000 vehicles daily. Traffic volume is forecast to reach 420,000 vehicles daily by 2035, far exceeding the capacity of the highway’s original 1960s design. When the 91 Project is completed, it is expected to reduce travel times and delays, improve air quality, allow faster emergency response, provide better access to transit and trails and enhance the overall quality of life for the region. >> Add a new regular lane and two tolled express lanes in both directions; Metrolink: The Smart Commuter Alternative During construction and beyond, Metrolink’s Inland Empire Orange County and 91 lines will be the smart alternatives for Riverside County commuters. Orange County’s major business centers are less than an hour’s ride from Corona. >> The 91 Line offers service that runs roughly parallel to the 91 and includes stations at Riverside-Downtown, Riverside-La Sierra, North Main Corona, West Corona, Fullerton, Buena Park, Norwalk/Santa Fe Springs and Los Angeles Union Station. >> The Inland Empire Orange County Line extends from Riverside to south Orange County and beyond, with stations at Riverside-Downtown, Riverside-La Sierra, North Main Corona, West Corona, Anaheim Canyon, Orange, Santa Ana, Tustin, Irvine, Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo, San Juan Capistrano, San Clemente, San Clemente Pier and Oceanside. Free Transit Connections With a current validated ticket or pass, Metrolink riders have free access to almost any local bus, shuttle, light rail or subway that connects to a Metrolink station. >> The Orange County Transportation Authority’s Stationlink and the City of Irvine’s iShuttle connect the Tustin and Irvine Metrolink stations with the area’s major commercial centers, including the Irvine Business Complex and Irvine Spectrum Center. Visit OCTA.net for details. >> Metrolink riders can take advantage of free airport connections between Metrolink stations and John Wayne Airport (Tustin station).
