METROLINK AND THE PERRIS VALLEY LINE:
Bringing Service to You
Construction Begins on First Metrolink Extension in Nearly 20 Years
Construction of the Perris Valley Line (PVL), which will extend Metrolink commuter
rail service on the 91 Line, began in October 2013. Led by the Riverside County
Transportation Commission (RCTC), the PVL is the first extension of Metrolink service
since the Antelope Valley Line was built in 1994. The PVL will continue rail service 24
miles from the downtown Riverside station to south Perris, with stops at four new
stations. The PVL is expected to open to riders by late 2015.
The project includes construction and rehabilitation of railroad tracks, upgrade of
18 at-grade crossings, and construction of four new stations: Riverside Hunter Park,
Moreno Valley/March Field, Downtown Perris and South Perris.

Perris Valley Line, contact the project

Metrolink is a comfortable and
safe alternative to commuting.
Trains provide power outlets for
electronic devices, work tables, and
restrooms. A “Quiet Car” also is
available during weekdays to offer
a peaceful environment for those
who want to rest or work without
distractions. Metrolink makes it easy
to plan a trip with up-to-the-minute
alerts and service advisories via its
mobile website and Twitter feed.
Visit metrolinktrains.com for more
information.
The Metrolink system offers many connection options, including Amtrak, Metro BusSubway-Light Rail, express buses and a Fly-Away link to Los Angeles International
Airport.

Taking the train for southwestern
Riverside County residents will
become a reality in less than two
years. Just imagine the possibilities
of traveling to your destination in
comfort. Taking Metrolink is a great
way to get to work or wherever you
are traveling. Not only do you get to
sit back, relax, and let someone else
do the driving, but you save money
and help reduce air pollution and
traffic congestion.

Plan to Take the Train –
Take Metrolink
Once operational, the Perris Valley Line will offer peak morning and afternoon
trains from the new PVL stations to the other stations on the 91 Line: Riverside
Downtown, Riverside-La Sierra, North Main Corona, West Corona, Fullerton, Buena
Park, Norwalk/Santa Fe Springs, and Los Angeles. There also will be connection
opportunities to transfer to trains along the Inland Empire-Orange County Metrolink

METROLINK AND THE PERRIS VALLEY LINE:
Bringing Service to You
Metrolink – Coming to a Community Near You
The PVL is expected to attract riders from southwestern Riverside County, including
Riverside, Moreno Valley, March Air Reserve Base, Perris, Menifee, Murrieta, Temecula,
San Jacinto, Hemet, Lake Elsinore and Wildomar.
The PVL will operate primarily on track that has been used as a freight rail line for more
than 100 years. Establishing Metrolink service on this track will transfer the responsibility
of track maintenance, repair and the upkeep of rail right of way away from a privatelyowned railroad to RCTC.
Four stations will serve the PVL:
Riverside Hunter Park Station
Riverside Hunter Park Station: This station will provide convenient access from Hunter
Park, UC Riverside, Highgrove, and Grand Terrace. Hunter Park has numerous light
industrial and manufacturing facilities. The area also is home to the College of Engineering,
Center for Environmental Research and Technology (CE-CERT) for the University of
California, Riverside. The Hunter Park Station will provide parking for 528 vehicles.
Moreno Valley/March Field Station: With 476 parking spaces, this station will serve
local commuters and is adjacent to the Meridian Business Park and UCPath Center (the
University of California system’s shared services center designed to serve UC’s 10 campuses
and five medical centers). The station is minutes from March Air Reserve Base, which is
being transformed into a major employment, business and logistics center. The station
will increase the attractiveness of the area for potential employers and aid economic
development initiatives.
Moreno Valley/March Field Station
Downtown Perris Station: This station, in the heart of downtown Perris, will serve
the city and the regional Perris Multimodal Center, which includes bus and Park and
Ride facilities. To accommodate commuters, 444 parking spaces will be provided. The
downtown Perris area includes the Civic Center and courthouse.
South Perris Station: At the end of the PVL, the South Perris Station will be located just
north of Ethanac Road. This station will serve Perris and communities to the south and
east. This station will provide 907 parking spaces.
Safety is Top Priority
The safety of motorists, pedestrians and construction workers is RCTC’s highest priority.
Please remember:
• Only cross train tracks at designated crossings, look both ways, and cross the tracks
quickly, without stopping.
• Never race a train to the crossing — even if you tie, you lose.
• The train you see is closer and faster-moving than you think. If you see a train
approaching, wait for it to pass before you proceed across the tracks.
• Be aware that trains cannot stop quickly. Even if the locomotive engineer sees you,
a freight train moving at 55 miles per hour can take a mile or more to stop once the
emergency brakes are applied.
Historic Downtown Perris Station
• Never drive or walk around lowered gates — it’s illegal and deadly. If you suspect a
signal is malfunctioning, call the 1-800 number posted on or near the crossing signal or
your local law enforcement agency.
• Do not get trapped on the tracks; proceed through a highway-rail grade crossing only if
you are sure you can completely clear the crossing without stopping.
• If your vehicle stalls on a track with a train coming, get out immediately.
• ALWAYS EXPECT A TRAIN! Not all trains follow set schedules.
