Thanks to their
distinctive
features these
four resorts are
chosen each year
by thousands of
visitors and travellers as
holiday places.
Each street corner offers
peculiar emotions.
Cervia’s historical centre
and the area around its salt
warehouses, which were
built at the end of the 17th
century, remind visitors of
their saltpans past.
This was marked by the
transfer of the city from
amid saltpans to a new site
next to the sea.
A few centuries later,
Grazia Deledda was seized
by the typical features of
this “windy district”, right
at those times when Cervia
was becoming a tourist
resort amid nature.
Even nowadays tourists are
friendly welcomed,
as typical of the people
of Romagna.
Such friendliness belongs
to the local outlook
and concept of life focusing
on openness, enjoyment and
intellectual curiosity.
Typicalness has
therefore become the
necessary password to
gain access to a marvellous
world of gastronomy,
traditions and culture.
And this has a very special
meaning in Cervia because
of its strong ties with the
ancient saltpans.
Each single aspect of life
is marked or
better “flavoured”
by Cervia’s sweet salt:
that white gold which was
so important in the past
and which left its
mark in history.
The area around the port is
extremely striking, too.
The fishermen’s quarter
is busy ever since dawn,
when the bustling fish discharge and sale keep them
buzzing till evening time,
when countless
entertainment initiatives
and restaurant romantic
or even “gourmet”
atmospheres become
protagonists.
Then charm adds to fascination at night, when fishing
boats move to the open sea.
SEA
SEA
Cervia’s fine-sand ninekilometre-long beach and its
not-too-deep and smoothly
slanting seabed grant families
and their babies or young children
safety and relax.
The “legendary” lifeguards watch
over those having fun on
the beach or at sea, while the
beach establishments welcome
beach-goers with first-rate and
“cuddling” services.
Swimming, surfing, sailing and
water-skiing schools offer great
chances to children
and grown-ups.
Again, a unique ecosystem in this
area, a very interesting one from
the biological and naturalistic point
of view, can be visited
by scuba-divers a few kilometres
off the coast.
Many sports can be practiced
at sea: from deep-sea fishing to
ascensional parachuting, or,
of course, the more traditional
water-skiing, sailing or surfing.
Each single beach establishment
has got beach tennis courts, and
very often also bowling grounds.
Anyhow, on the beach everybody
can play beach volley, beach soccer,
yoga, pilates, and any other activity aimed at keeping both body
and mind fit.
Playgrounds are also available to
the youngest.
Most of the beach establishments
have got quality certifications and
the many blue-flag certifications
of these latest years grant the
quality of sea-and-beach-resort
services and further of the
countless activities addressed to
disabled people.
NATURE
WELLNESS
NATURE
WELLNESS
Nature plays a relevant role in this district.
Each resort has its own green area.
Pinarella and Tagliata’s Riviera dei Pini - Coastal
Green Strip offer a pinewood area next
to the sea.
Tourists and residents all love these green
areas where they can stop and relax, stay for
a pick-nick in especially equipped spaces, while
children have fun in playgrounds.
A thousand-year-old pinewood enshrines
Milano Marittima and offers life trails with
equipment for outdoor exercise and jogging.
The Spa Centre lies next to the wonderful
Natural Park, a pinewood stretching over 27
hectares where visitors can watch the local
wildlife while leaving their kids free to play on
the lawns or along the paths. In this same area
“CerviAvventura”, an aerial adventure park with
aerial course in the trees and Tibetan bridges,
steel cables and pulleys, grants adventurers
safe fun.
Cervia is part of the Po Delta Park with its –
Salina di Cervia - Cervia Saltpan South Station:
a wonderful natural area extending over 827
hectares with its typical humid-area wildlife
such as pink flamingos, great egrets,
purple and gray herons, avocets, mallards
and kingfishers.
Some species are non-migratory ones and at
springtime wildlife lovers can peep egg hatching
from behind a screened path.
Saltpans can be visited all year round with
eco-tourist guides. In summer, night tours
guided by astronomers offer
a chance to watch the starry sky.
Cervia’s Spas lie deep in nature.
They employ muds and mother water from the
saltpans for exclusive aesthetic
and therapeutic treatments.
Besides having special healing properties muds
also act on cellulite deposits, while salt is used
in very special skin-peeling treatments.
Walking and cycling in the areas next to the
sea may help visitors feel better and
enjoy special emotions.
SPORT
ENTERTAINMENT
SPORT
ENTERTAINMENT
There are countless chances to
practice sport in Cervia.
Recreations of all kinds are planned
amid the pines or on the beach
open spaces.
Bikes are a must here: there are over
30 km. cycle paths in the greenery
and new ones are opened each year
to help those who want to take
exercise and keep fit.
Or they can canoe along the pinewood canals, or again ride on bridle
paths in the green.
It is also possible to ride jet skis or
practice water-skiing on the many
small lakes surrounding the resorts.
Boating and sailing then become
protagonists at sea.
A great number of sailing
competitions, some even reserved
to children, are held, and countless
are the sailing schools addressed
to the many sailing lovers.
A 27-hole golf course and an
important horse-riding centre, both
in Milano Marittima’s
pinewood, make these sites’ sports
offer unique.
On the beach it is then possible to
practice a great number of sports in
their “beach” version, or have a ride
on carts towed by kites and surfs.
The daring ones should definitely
have a try with parachuting.
Mirabilandia, the theme park
situated 5 km from Cervia, offers
emotions worthy of the greatest
European parks.
Daytime shopping is always
possible.
Or again lovers of aperitifs may
find the right place on the beach or
in the city centre coffee-bars.
At night discos and the coolest
entertainment places of the Coast
grow lively and crowded.

EVENTS
GASTRONOMY
TRADITIONS
EVENTS
How can you feel at the top during your holidays?
Just enjoy the many typical local dishes which will surely add to
your happiness.
In Cervia there are countless chances to taste the dishes
and products of Romagna and the great fish from the Adriatic sea.
Cookery has always been a cult with the people of Romagna:
tagliatelle, cappelletti , and a glass of Sangiovese can tell much
about regional traditions.
And what about Cervia’s sweet salt adding its unique
flavour to the natural aroma of local quality products?
All of Cervia’s history has always been rooted in salt,
saltpans and the richness they brought about.
The transfer of the city from its ancient site amid saltpans to its
actual one next to the sea started in 1698, when the foundation
stone of the new city was laid.
Cervia is one of the very few examples of urban-planning city,
that is to say a city built following a specific project.
Here in Cervia the different the different classes of citizens were
to inhabit different neighbourhoods.
By this project, the city centre was to be surrounded and protected
by the salt workers’ houses built within the city boundary walls.
The city centre is not the only part of the town recalling
its salt-linked past.
The salt warehouses imposing structures, striking examples
of industrial archaeology, also testify such important past.
And so does Saint Michele tower, the warden
controlling salt and its trade.
Inside the salt warehouses visitors can enter MUSA museum with
its striking exhibition area.
Shows, displays, exhibitions, conferences and meetings and other
cultural events are also held here.
Some other traditional events such as the Sposalizio del Mare Marriage of the Sea or Sapore di Sale - Salt Flavour all recall the
past of this place and its roots in salt and saltpans.
Another traditional event is Festa di San Lorenzo Saint Lawrence’s Feast.
International events like the Festival dell’Aquilone - International
Kite-flying Festival or the Festival del Teatro di Figura International Puppet and Marionnette Show Theatre and many
other cultural or sport events, which are on Cervia’s bill every
year, also have wide appeal.
