Family Owned Business 2006 World Class Vehicles, Home Town Values Phil Bachman Toyota is enjoying its thirtieth year of helping customers find and maintain world-class cars to fit their needs. Starting the dealership in 1976, Phil and his family are still active in the company today. The dealership has seen exciting recent growth, thanks to Phil’s enthusiasm, the guidance of General Manager Bill Benton, and help of each employee. The franchise offers the trendy Scion brand and has expanded its used car facilities. Phil Bachman Toyota promotes honesty and integrity and offers the friendliest car-buying experience in the area. The dealership believes that shopping for a car should not be over-hyped or uncomfortable. It likewise feels that obtaining Toyota service and parts should be as convenient as possible. The dealership and the Bachman family strongly believe in giving back to the community. The Bachmans are active in their church, participate in Greeneville’s Rotary Club and donate to Tusculum College. Similarly, the dealership sponsors the Johnson City Cardinals, as well as local youth baseball leagues and several employees’ church groups. It is Phil Bachman Toyota’s goal to serve to the best of its ability anyone shopping for an automobile or needing Toyota service work, all the while standing for values close to home. How I was going to realize my dream of helping the elderly remain independent in their own homes and use my years of training and working with the elderly was only a dream until I read an article in Woman’s World Magazine in 1998 listing the Top 10 businesses for women in one of their issues. Home Instead Senior Care — a nonmedical home-based companionship and home helper service — out of Omaha, Neb., was listed as a way to help seniors and an opportunity to start a business. I called the number listed and talked with the franchise department and as they say, the rest is history. The next March saw me and my son, Rick, in Omaha in training to learn the philosophy, history and principles of Home Instead Senior Care. We left my husband, George, at home to finish preparations for our opening and keep the home fires burning. I was most impressed with their philosophy on caregiving — properly hired, screened and bonded caregivers, beginning with a large dose of love and care. Take care of them and they will take care of the people who need help. Now that was a novel idea to many people and still is, but that was exactly what I had always believed. I was completely sold and remain sold to this day. Rick and I started our business in Gray in April of 1999 with the strong support of my husband, George, who is co-owner and runs our Blountville office. Our goal is to help seniors stay in their homes as long as possible by offering these supportive services. We are proud of our progress. Our business is still thriving — using the integrity and goals set up by the organization. We employ an average of 130 to 150 people, with many of them being over the age of 55. Their experience and caring reflect our philosophy and that of our company. Today, our family runs two local offices that provide trained, licensed and bonded caregivers who help with things like companionship, light housekeeping, meal preparation, incidental transportation, and a variety of non-medical tasks that will allow an aging person to remain at home. Services are available from just a few hours per day up to 24 hours per day including overnight stays. Our office locations are in Jonesborough, providing coverage to Johnson City, Greeneville, Elizabethton and surrounding areas, and in Blountville, providing coverage to Rogersville, Kingsport, Bristol, Abingdon and surrounding areas. Contact can be made by calling one of our offices: Blountville (423) 354-0223 or (423) 753-4008. A month? Maybe three? What would happen if you were unable to work for a year or more? The simple fact is that most of us don't have the cash reserves to weather an unexpected loss of income in the event a serious injury or illness prevents us from working. And besides, you don't want to deplete the money you've been saving for retirement or your children's education just to keep the bank from foreclosing on your house. Think you don't need disability insurance? You're healthy and Elizabethton Star…Dates Back To Civil War Era The history of the Elizabethton STAR Newspaper traces directly back to The Mountaineer, a newspaper established in 1864. The Mountaineer, which as far as is known, was the first newspaper in Upper East Tennessee. The Mountaineer was published until about 1908 when publication ceased. The Carter County Banner was started in 1908, the same year The Mountaineer discontinued, by Bert Tipton. Tipton published the Carter County Banner until 1914 and it changed owners several times between then and 1928 when Frank Lovette changed the name to the Elizabethton Daily Star. In 1946, under the ownership of Stillman Evans of Nashville, W.S. Waddell was named Publisher and Editor and the first issue of the ELIZABETHTON STAR was printed on April 6, 1946. The corner of Main St. and First St. was home to the old Mountaineer, the Carter County Banner, the Elizabethton Daily Star and the ELIZABETHTON STAR up until August 31, 1950. Then following a fire in the building the newspaper moved to its present location on Sycamore Street. On June 24, 1953, Carmage Walls acquired the newspaper and formed the firm of Elizabethton Newspapers, Inc. naming Howard Zombro as Publisher. On October 1, 1955, Frank Robinson was named Publisher and in 1977 Robinson purchased the newspaper, becoming the sole owner. On October 1, 1980, his son, Charles Robinson, was named Publisher. After the death of Charles on July 7, 2004, Mr. Frank Robinson returned as Publisher and continues to be family owned. 300 Sycamore Street Elizabethton, TN 37643 Phone: 423.542.4151 Fax: 423.543.2004 you don't work in a high-risk occupation, right?
