Senhor Santo Cristo Catholic School News
Christ, Teacher and Lord, Bless all in this school
As we seek to end our year
With the grace you so generously provide.
We give thanks for the students, and the staff, and the parents,
And all who have contributed
To this year of nurturing and growth.
We affirm all the positive moments, of insight, of the excitement of learning, of accomplishment, of creativity,
of laughter, of a sense of community.
We recognize the times of struggle,
Of difficult work, of misunderstanding,
Even of failure--we give these to you for transformation,
So they can become seeds that will find fertile soil.
As we leave for the summer, may we take with us
The knowledge that You will keep us all In your embrace so
We may rest and be restored and so we can continue in
The ongoing discovery of your Love.

YEAR OF THE FAMILY
Dear Parents/Guardians,
It is hard to believe that we are coming up to the final days of the school year. It
seems that just yesterday I was walking in the school yard greeting all of you
and your children. Throughout my short stay of only one year at Senhor Santo
Cristo I have had an opportunity to get to know your children. They have made
me feel very welcome right from the start. We have endured some highs and
some lows but all in all we had a great year of fun, learning, and growing. I will
miss each and everyone of them as we all embark on our own new paths come
September, 2016.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the Senhor Santo Cristo Catholic School community— parents, grandparents, and neighbours—for ensuring
a wonderful and successful year for all. Your support and assistance throughout the course of the school year have guaranteed the success of many of the
initiatives and activities that have taken place at Senhor Santo Cristo. A very
special thank you is extended to Mr. Saunders and Mrs. Correia for their support, their fundraising efforts, cooking of hotdogs, and their valuable time devoted to the students at Senhor Santo Cristo.
A sincere thank you is extended to the exceptional staff at Senhor Santo Cristo
Catholic School. It is evident that you are committed and dedicated to the wellbeing and development of all of your students. Your efforts, love for the students, compassion, and respect have not gone unnoticed. We will miss you
and wish you all the best on your new journey.
Before we say our goodbyes we need to remain focused on the next 26 days of
school. We have many activities planned for June, starting with the CSPC
Barbeque on June 2, invitation to St. Luke Fun Fair on June 3 and Community
Mass on June 14, NED presentation on June 9th, PA Day on June 10 (no
school), Gone Fishing on June 15th , SK Celebration of Learning on June 16th, Closing Year
End Mass and BBQ on June 24, Grade 8 Graduation on June 27th, Play Day on June 29 , and
Red and White Day on our last instruction day
of school, June 29. We have many things to
look forward to at Senhor Santo Cristo School
and many more memories to make.

Mensagem da Directora
Prezados Pais / Encarregados de Educação
É difícil acreditar que já estamos a nos aproximar do final
do ano escolar. Parece que foi ontem que cheguei ao pátio
da escola, saudando a todos vós e aos vossos filhos.
Durante o meu curto tempo na escola de Senhor Santo
Cristo, tive a oportunidade de conhecer todas as crianças.
Elas fizeram-me sentir muito bem-vinda desde o início.
Junho, convite para a Feira da escola St. Luke no dia 3 de Junho e Missa Comunitária no dia 14;
Junho, Formatura do Gr.8 no dia 27, Play Day (Dia da Brincadeira) no dia 29 e Dia do Vermelho e Branco
no último dia de aula, 29 de Junho. Temos muitas coisas a fazer ainda na nossa escola e muitas
memórias a serem construídas.

First Holy Communion and Confirmation Ottawa Trip
On May 8th, our Senhor Santo Cristo students received the sacrament of First Holy Communion.
Our grade 7 and 8 student followed be receiving the
Sacrament of Confirmation on May 15, 2016. Many
thanks to our celebrant Fr. Godwin, and to our staff,
church staff and parents who continue to guide our
students along their spiritual journey as they grow
closer to God. To our students and families we
wish you our warmest congratulations!
Goodbye and Hello
It is with sadness that we bid goodbye to Ms. Sauro, our vocal music teacher. She has been with us
from September to May and we would like to
acknowledge and thank her for her generous time
and contributions to our students, the Christmas
concert, the music festival, and our monthly masses. We wish her all the best in the years to come.
At this time, I would like to welcome Mrs. Kowalczyk
to Senhor Santo Cristo Catholic School from her
Maternity Leave. I am certain that she will continue
on with the great musical talents and abilities at our
school. Welcome!
On Monday, May 16 the Grades 5, 6, 7, and 8 departed on a coach bus for Ottawa. Among some of
the outings, the students had an opportunity to visit
Parliament Hill, the Canadian War Museum, and
took a Historic Walking Tour of Ottawa.
Thank you to all the parents and students for their
fantastic fundraising efforts. Your support is greatly
appreciated. The school would like to extend an
enormous thank you to Mr. Lopes, Mr. DiMarco,
and Mme. Rocca, and our parent volunteers, Mr.
Saunders and Mrs. Correia , who graciously devoted 3 entire days and 2 nights to supervising the
students. Your time and dedication is appreciated
by all.
Meaghan’s Walk
On Thursday, May 5, all the Senhor Santo Cristo
students walked around the community in support
of Meaghan’s Walk. In additional, Mr. DiMarco’s
class sold bracelets and t shirts. All in all, the class
and students raised over $400.00. Thank you to
the grade 5/6 class and Mr. DiMarco for all of their
efforts. A job well done and for a very good cause.
Senhor Santo Cristo is pleased to announce
that The Angel Foundation for Learning, the
charitable organization devoted to assisting
students within TCDSB schools, has approved
our school’s funding request in support of our
excursion to Ottawa.

Summer Holiday Math: Take advantage of math in the world
Summer is a great time to learn how math relates to the real world. Math is
everywhere!
Help your child prevent “summer learning loss” by taking advantage of the
many great opportunities to practice math naturally!
Below are a few ideas to get you started:
 Cooking can involve weighing, measuring, ordering, estimating, adding, multiplying …
 Restaurants and shopping can involve money, number identification,
estimating, adding, subtracting, division …
 Parties can involve matching numbers of people to plates, cutlery, area of tables, estimation, multiplication …
 Trips can involve time, distance, budgeting, speed, evaluating various routes, license plate games
(e.g. adding or multiplying the numbers on the plate) …
 Home projects can involve estimation, measuring, multiplication …
 Gardening can involve measuring, counting, area, division …
These ideas all demonstrate how much math is involved in our daily lives and will support your child in his
or her basic computation and problem-solving skills in natural, fun and real ways.
DO YOU PLAN TO ATTEND THE CLOSING CEREMONIES OF THE SCHOOL ON
JUNE 24, 2016?
If you plan on attending the Closing Ceremony of the School, please let the office know. In
order to prepare for this day, it is imperative that all families respond if they are attending.
We need to ensure that there is ample seating in the church and we are prepared for the
BBQ. Please respond to the school office by June 17th. Your cooperation is appreciated
in this matter.
SUMMER REMINDERS
Parents and students are encouraged to take the time to visit their new school for 2016. Familiarity with
the walking route to school, as well as the physical building and surroundings (location of classroom,
washrooms, school office, entry and exits, bus routes, etc.) will help to alleviate any first day jitters and
anxiety.
If your child is attending a TCDSB school, this is a reminder that
all of our TCDSB schools have a uniform policy in effect. The
policy is the same as the uniform policy at Senhor Santo Cristo
School, navy or white solid top with solid navy on the bottom.
Over the summer holidays, and when shopping for back to school
clothes, please keep in mind that tops are to be solid in colour
with no logos. The bottoms are also solid in colour and may consist of pants, skirts, jumpers, and walking shorts for the warm
weather.
Try to illustrate a basic understanding of the
saving story of our Christian faith.
 Participate in the sacramental life of the church.
 Try to reflect on God’s Word as communicated
through the Hebrew and Christian scriptures.
 Remember that it is through our words and actions that our faith becomes evident.
 Let your action be guided by Centurion’s words
to Jesus, “Lord, I am not worthy to receive you,
but only say the word and I shall be healed”
 It is our Faith in God that brings comfort to our
lives
 Being a Catholic is founded in faith— Faith in
the Lord.
In the broad scope of spiritual life, we see faith not
as something you have but as something you are
in—a relationship. Practicing faith, then is like developing any relationship. You have to give it time
and attention. It requires us to see, hear, feel, and
constantly remember our partner—God.

June Virtue—Faithfulness
As we prepare for the end of the school year, we
are focusing this month on the virtue of Faithfulness. As we send our students off for a summer of
fun and relaxation and our graduates off into the
wider world, we have faith that they will return to us
safely to begin another year. The quote from
John’s gospel ( John 20:29) reminds us, “Happy
are those who have not seen , yet still believe.”
We will encourage our students to continue to put
their faith into action by bringing the Gospel spirit
into every aspect of their lives. This is how we become true witnesses to Christ, extend the kingdom
of God and build a more humane world.
How do we show Faithfulness at Senhor Santo
Cristo School:
Please join us on June 24th for
our Official School Closing
Mass @ 10:00am at Santa Cruz
Church. Please RSVP to the
