Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Parish Mission Statement
St. Kilian Parish is a Catholic
community of faith responding to the
call of Jesus Christ through the
proclamation of Scripture, the
celebration of Eucharist, and in living
the sacramental life of the Church.
We are committed to responding to each
other through communities and
ministries of faith and love,
addressing our spiritual, social and
educational needs.
We believe that each of us is called to be
a supportive, compassionate, and
caring Christian witness in Mission
Viejo, the Diocese of Orange and in
the world.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
As the date of our new church dedication grows rapidly closer, I have much to share with you about
short and long term plans at St. Kilian.
First, the short term:
Be sure and read the invitation to the Solemn Mass of Dedication in the front of the bulletin, along
with all the important details about it. Due to the large number of visitors expected, I cannot stress
enough the need to RSVP as soon as possible if you wish to attend.
The Dedication committee and parish staff have been hard at work organizing the logistics of this
very special day. One of the issues they’ve addressed is parking. Please be aware that there will be
no parking in our lots on the day of the Dedication, except for clergy and handicapped parishioners.
However, we have secured the Mission Viejo High School upper lot on Chrisanta Drive for parking.
Round trip shuttle service will be provided throughout the day. If you are planning to attend the
Dedication Mass, plan to arrive early so you have plenty of time to board the shuttle and arrive at
the church in time.
As you can imagine, the celebration of this very special event also involves numerous expenses,
and we humbly ask that you consider underwriting or donating goods and services. More
information can be found on the back page of the bulletin.
Finally, it will soon be time to formally say a fond good-bye to our current church. Our last Mass
there will be at 5:00 PM Sunday, August 18th. For many of you, this will be an emotional event,
as I’m sure you have wonderful memories here. Rest assured we will not let the day go by without
doing something special. Watch for more information over the coming weeks.
Also, please be aware that there will be no daily Masses or Confessions the week of August 19-23.
Of course, there will be no Confessions on Saturday, August 24, and no Saturday evening Masses
that day as well.
And now, some long term news…
One of the many blessings of our new church will be the celebration of more weddings here at St.
Kilian. For those of you who go to Saturday afternoon confession, this will necessitate a change for
you. Beginning on Saturday, August 31, Saturday Confessions will begin at 8:45 AM to
accommodate parish weddings. Please make a note of this change in your
calendar.
We’ve also decided to continue with our current Mass schedule through
January 1, 2014. At that time we’ll be in a better position to assess our
parish needs and whether we need to adjust the schedule. Again, we’ll
keep you posted. In the meantime, I ask your prayers for all of those who
are involved in the final phases of building our church. Of course, I always
keep you in my prayers as well.
In Christ,
Father Bruce

I Give Electronically
You Can Too!
New cards are available in the pew pockets for those households
that contribute to the parish electronically but would like to
participate in the offering during Mass. We are aware that the
symbolic act of giving during Mass is an important part of
stewardship. If you are contributing electronically and would prefer
a visible way to participate in the offering, please use these cards
to place in the collection basket and they will be collected
along with the rest of our donations.
Thank you to those households who participate in electronic giving.
If you are interested in signing up, please contact the Front Office
at [email protected] or pick up a form at the back of the church.
Our For Christ Forever campaign continues, and with a little under 190 pledges
to date, the parish has realized about half of its assessed goal of $1.3 million.
Since we regularly see anywhere from 400 to 600 individual pledges in a normal PSA
year, this suggests that by year's end we should easily reach our goal. As you recall,
this is a multi-year campaign pledge, so we are hoping that most of us will adjust our
pledges accordingly. If you have not yet done so, I invite you to make your pledge
today in support of both your parish and your diocese.
