Dear Friends in Christ,
This weekend we mark the beginning of Catholic Schools Week. Each year
the Catholic Schools in our country put aside one week in order to celebrate
the value of Catholic Education. Many people in our parish have benefited
from attending Catholic schools. Likewise, we are blessed that our parish
sponsors two Catholic schools. Our grade school enrolls children ages three
through grade 8 and our high school, IC Catholic Prep, enrolls students in
grades 9 through 12. The total enrollment in these grades of our two schools
is the largest sponsored by any Catholic parish in the state of Illinois. We are
very blessed to continue this tradition that was started in the year 1900.
I was very blessed that my parents sent me to Catholic Schools. It was
indeed a sacrifice for them to make this decision. They were already paying
a great deal of taxes and yet they decided to make this financial investment.
Later in life, I learned how firmly they believed in the significance of
Catholic Education. My parents wanted me to be able to learn about God
and our Catholic way of life on an ongoing basis. In a Catholic school, religion is not only a subject, it is instead
something that is taught and encouraged throughout the entire school day. I am very grateful to have received this
foundation, both in grade and in high school. The success of our schools at Immaculate Conception is beyond
measure. We sponsor an excellent Catholic high school. Young men and women who graduate from IC Catholic
Prep are truly prepared to make a difference by their lives. I consider myself very blessed to be able to witness the
growth and development that occurs in them.
Likewise, the children in our grade school grow stronger in their faith and spiritual well being on a daily basis. It is
a beautiful thing to witness their outstanding educational development. Like the students in our high school, it is
also very gratifying to see how their lives grow deeper in Christ on a daily basis.
Thank you to all of our Administrations, Faculties and Staffs for your constant and never ending dedication to the
welfare of the students in Immaculate Conception schools. Thank you as well to all of the parents for their never
ending dedication that is shown, particularly in the countless ways in which you volunteer to assist us in our mission.
Thank you to all of our parishioners for all that you have done throughout the years. Thank you to those who have
gone before us for their wisdom and dedication that was shown in starting and maintaining our schools. The very
dedicated Sisters of St. Agnes were an integral part of Catholic Education for 85 years. Countless laymen and
women have also generously shared their time and talent as administrators, teachers and staff members. Over the
years numerous priests have also worked diligently for the advancement of Catholic Education at IC.
May God continue to bless and watch over Immaculate Conception Grade School and IC Catholic Prep. If you are
interested in potentially enrolling your child in either of our schools, please contact the respective office.
Sincerely in Christ,
A Note From Mr. Keith Wolfe, Seminarian
Our Seminarian Keith Wolfe will be on pilgrimage to the Holy Land (Jerusalem) with his classmates from Saint Mary
of the Lake Seminary until March 21st, 2015. He writes, "Although it is a few short months until I am ordained a Deacon
with my assignment at IC beginning in June, I would like to serve the parish community on my pilgrimage. I will be
visiting many of the holy sites from Scripture. I am offering to pray for any of your intentions at these sites. For
example, maybe someone is sick in your family, I can pray for them at the site where Jesus healed Lazarus. These
locations have a special grace because of their connection to the life of Our Lord. So, if you are interested in prayer,
please send an email to [email protected]. You may be as specific or anonymous as you desire. I look forward to
continue to serve all of you as a Deacon when I return."

In today’s Scripture passage, God inspires Jonah to listen
to the Lord’s call, and warn the people of Nineveh to turn
away from evil and repent. In St. Mark’s Gospel, Jesus
calls Simon-Peter, Andrew, James, and John to follow
Him. They respond immediately, leaving their fishing
businesses and families — in essence, sacrificing
everything — to become His disciples. Their actions
were considered radical even in Jesus’ day, and would be
even more so in today’s world. As disciples striving to
embrace stewardship as a way of life, are we, too, willing
to sacrifice all we have for the Kingdom of God?

CATHOLIC MINISTRIES
ANNUAL APPEAL
THE 2015 CATHOLIC MINISTRIES ANNUAL
APPEAL IS UNDERWAY
“EXTENDING GOD’S MERCY”
The 2015 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal begins with
a mailing that many of our parishioners have received or
will soon receive. This is a mailing from Bishop Conlon
asking for a pledge to the 2015 Catholic Ministries
Annual Appeal.
The Appeal not only funds many of the operations of the
diocese, it funds services that are of great help to the
ministries here in our parish. For example, funds
support…INSERT SOME OF THE MINISTRIES IN YOUR
PARISH THAT RECEIVE TRAINING OR OTHER
FORMS OF SUPPORT. DON’T FORGET….
This year, the theme of the Appeal is “Extending God’s
Mercy.” The greatest act of God's Mercy toward
humankind was to send His Son. People lost the way to
God, the truth about God and a life in God by our own
fault. Jesus came to give us the Way, the Truth and a new
Life. Jesus taught us to be MERCIFUL as His Father is
MERCIFUL. (Luke: 6:36)
How do we acknowledge God’s mercy and show Him
our gratitude? One way that we can show our gratitude is
by giving back to God the gifts He shared with us. We can
support our parish, our diocese and the Church
throughout the world with gifts of time, talent and
treasure. The gifts we give enable ministries, education,
and services that touch thousands of lives.
January 25, 2015

Our parish goal is $ 98,300 With your financial support,
we can exceed this goal. When we exceed our goal in paid
pledges, we will receive 65% of the amount over goal for
use in our parish.
Please answer Bishop Conlon’s request and make a
generous pledge. All pledges can be paid in 10
installments.
Thank you in advance for your support.

Prayer for Blessed Service
Dear God, let your will for me be known.
Use me, oh God, as your creation.
When a kind word needs to be spoken, use my
voice.
When a load needs to be lifted, use my back.
When a hug needs to be given, use my arms.
When a journey needs to be taken, use my feet.
When a message needs to be delivered, use my
mind.
When a friend needs to be loved, use my heart.
In all things, in all ways, use me, God,
as your instrument of love, faith, peace and
tranquility.

Our most needed items
this week are fresh fruit
and vegetables,
milk, eggs and cheese,
flour, sugar, vegetable
oil, pasta and pasta
sauce, canned fruit, soup,
laundry detergent, dish
soap and toothpaste.
Remember that you may drop food off at the PAC/
Rectory during normal business hours. Our faith is
reflected most strongly in our actions to help the most
vulnerable, especially those who hunger. "Love of
neighbor is inseparable from love for God."
Catechism of the Catholic Church, #1878
HOSPITALIZED? PLEASE
LET US KNOW!
Please remember to notify
the Rectory if you or a
member of your family is
hospitalized and wants to
receive Communion or a
pastoral visit from one of our Ministers of Care or priests.
We visit Elmhurst Hospital several times a week and
convenient times can be arranged.
If you are HOMEBOUND, unable to attend Mass and wish
to receive Communion, our Eucharistic Ministers will visit
on a weekly basis. Please call Pam at 530-3497 to
arrange a convenient time.
USED CAR NEEDED
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and we’d like
to continue one of IC’s longstanding traditions of
providing homemade cookies to our homebound seniors.
Will you help to make someone’s Valentine’s Day extraspecial by providing a dozen cookies that will be
delivered by our Eucharistic Ministers to the
homebound?
Please place the cookies in a plastic bag and deliver to
the IC Rectory on Friday, February 6 between the hours
of 8:30 and 3:00. We currently have 25 homebound
seniors who will benefit from your loving baking. Please
contact Pam Stefik at 530-3497 with questions.
On behalf of our homebound seniors,
THANK YOU!
One of IC Daybreak’s
Transitional Housing clients is
in need of a used car in good
working order, preferably with
less than 100,000 miles. Our
client has begun to pay down
debt and save money, working diligently towards the day
she will be financially independent. Unfortunately, her
current vehicle has almost 200,000 miles on it and has
begun to have significant repair issues, which impacts
her ability to save towards her future.
If you or someone you know may be able to donate a
vehicle in good working order, please contact Pam Stefik
at 630-530-3497.
God bless you.
