ON MV AMBAI; AMBON TO SAUMLAKI
13 days/12 nights – minimum 35 dives
Departure from: Ambon 29 April, 2016 Arrival at: Saumlaki 11 May, 2016
From Ambon (Moluccas) to Saumlaki (Tanimbar archipelagoes): The scenery is breathtaking: underwater fallings, pelagic, coral reef. On earth you will ;ind deserted beaches and gorgeous and some ;ishermen using traditional ;ishing techniques with a kite. Objects of war between the English and the Dutch who fought violently counters, long pepper, Java pepper Cubeb, black pepper Bali, cloves of Ternate in North Maluku, salt in Amed Bali, nutmeg, mace, Kenari nut in the Banda islands ...used to be negotiated at very high prices. Context & Environnement
This cruise makes a journey of about 500 nautical miles and crossing a large part of eastern Indonesia through the Banda Sea where visibility often reaches 50 m, revisit beautiful sites around these islands called the Forgotten islands. This will allow us to dive sites very little visited, usually rich in pelagic dive sites (including hammerhead sharks at nil desperandum). We chose the Banda Islands as a strong point of this unique cruise for their historical past (former Dutch counter starting point of a road with spices) and yet still uncrowded. We will have the opportunity to visit the village and the fort of Banda Neira as well spice plantations, sourcing from local producers and admire the many mandarin ;ish in the port of Banda Neira. Diving info:
Some dives are carried out offshore reefs. On this itinerary we expect slow to medium currents. The guides will always check the current before each immersion and inform the divers. However, as we will also probably perform some exploratory dives, a solid dive experience is recommended for this cruise. Visibility is expected to be very good, and the temperature about 28° C. Wide angle and macro subjects (especially in Ambon bay) will alternate. Wall diving with overhangs and caves, black corals and huge sponges, schools of surgeon;ishes, trevallies, barracudas, and occasionally reef sharks and hopefully hammerhead sharks. When in Banda, 1 dive will probably be skipped for the excursion on the island. - 6 night dives minimum - 1 morning dive on the penultimate day, eventually 2 according to the return ;light schedule (24 hours no ;light desaturation rule applies).
Diving organisation and equipment : All dives have to be conducted within standards no decompression limits. Depending on their diving levels, interest and expectations (photography, macro etc...) and the use of Nitrox (available with extra-‐charge), groups of divers are formed by the cruise director (after some "check dives") on the 2nd day. These groups, supervised by the cruise leader-‐Instructor, are composed of up to four divers, and have each an allocated guide for the day. These local guides are rotated: so you will dive with all of them. Each diver is given a tank (DIN & INT available, no need for adapters), and a unique location for their equipment for the duration of the cruise. Wallacea staff always carries your dive tank between Ambai and the dinghies. Hiring all or just a part of the equipment is possible on board: as all sizes are not necessarily available, it is requested to book equipment before departure and to specify the desired sizes.
