Doing the right thing has a cost, whether in your personal life or in business. Many people, spend so much time trying to find a short cut on how to do something when the focus should be on what is the right thing to do. On a personal or corporate level, doing the right thing is referred to as integrity. Integrity has been defined as, “Doing the right thing, even if nobody is watching”. Integrity is a concept of consistency of actions, values, methods, measures, principles, expectations, and outcomes. Wikipedia “Have the courage to say no. Have the courage to face the truth. Do the right thing because it is right. These are the magic keys to liv‐
ing your life with integrity.” (W. Clement Stone) “I don’t pretend to tell people how to live their lives other than to do the right thing and work hard. Everything else should take care of itself.” (Dave Anderson) In business or life, it is not a matter of if, but when, problems will arise. Problems are what most of us do not like, or want to deal with, but yet it is what will define us in many ways. Find the biggest problem in life and solve it. This is what Donald Trump defines as success. When problems arise, doing the right thing is the guiding principle that we should all use in our businesses. And success will follow. Success is the achievement of something desired, planned, or attempted. (The Free Dictionary) Final thoughts: Forest Gump says, “Stupid is as stupid does”. So, do our actions define what is? So what if, “Smart is as smart does”? Is success as simple as doing the right thing? Success is something we all want, but is defined by the simple principle of discipline. Disci‐
pline in our actions can define what is smart or not. So, start today with a simple thought of, doing the right thing. God Bless, Jerry Mouton
2 BUSINESS ETHICS Business ethics is the behavior that a business adheres to in its daily deal‐
ings with the world. The ethics of a particular business can be diverse. They apply not only to how the business interacts with the world at large, but also to their one‐on‐one dealings with a single customer. Many businesses have gained a bad reputation just by being in business. Business Growth and
Development
To some people, businesses are interested in making money, and that is the bottom line. It could be called capitalism in its purest form. Making money is not wrong in itself. It is the manner in which some businesses conduct themselves that brings up the question of ethical behavior. Good business ethics should be a part of every business. There are many Tuesday, June 14 at 12:00 pm
