motorcycle enthusiast can tell you,
the Hollister Rally IS BACK and will
be better than ever........Speed-Way

Don Reeves said this about the Corbin Event, "The event was in our back yard for a couple of years before we took
advantage of Mike's gracious offer to attend. Are we glad we did! Mike and his staff are gracious hosts and provide
an extremely vendor and consumer friendly venue and experience for everyone to enjoy. We look forward to coming
back in 2013 and sincerely thank Mike for the offer to return to this great event."
That is all very cool, but the Speedway support of the industry and the local motorcycling community doesn't stop
there.

Avon has some discontinued tires that we thought some of the IMBBA builders out there might
be interested in.
They can call
ext. 3182 to
reach Dana
Counts to order
them with a
credit card.
Also if anyone
is interested the
UK has a number of discontinued Cobra
280/40R20 tires
over in the UK
and those would
be $170 plus
freight. They
would need to
provide a PO
and credit card
info and then
we would bring
them over on
the next container.
Avon Tyres provided an entire
educational training program of their
products and service including
inspection, mounting and balancing along with an additional video and Dealer program for
selling their products that can be used for schools and the course goes towards
certification. Total of 24 points if you need some educational points for certification
this is a great course.

INTERNATIONAL MASTER BIKE BUILDERS ASSOCIATION
Thanks for the many e-mails and comments on this subject. We have decided to
extend a little more on this subject.
A bike is broken down into attributes in most shows. As such, the sum of the parts
assembled is seldom observed…..Unless it jumps out at you!
However, IMBBA holds the builder to a higher level of professionalism in that, the sum of
the parts are assembled meeting SAE standards. SAE (Society Automotive Engineers)
guidelines where the nut, bolts, wires, hydraulic, and oil lines are all interconnecting to the
motorcycles functions.
With fit, form, function and safety held in the highest order and you want to score high in
the shows, be sure all hardware, nuts and bolts, etc are to their industry standards or you
will lose points. It sucks to lose the show due to small details being over looked, but it
sucks worse to blow through an intersection because the wrong brake fittings were used!
The sum of the parts assembled is where more points are lost to an otherwise well
designed and engineered motorcycle. Don’t let that happen to you.
IMBBA has been judging bike shows globally for now 8 years and its judges range over 40
years of bike building, customizing and or service and repairing motorcycles, as such,
many stories are brought forth of instances where they lost or won by foolish mistakes and
or errors in their work. How can any builder take that personally? They shouldn’t, look for
the road signs and pay attention to details.
IMBBA uses the physical evidence before them. For an example, you bracketed and
cabled the front clutch cable using the state of the art billet clamps. Carefully aligning and
mounting the clamp to frame or component to support the cable. This is good! And you
demonstrated to the judge, your knowledge and awareness to cabling and wear and
pinching points then, you use a tie wrap to fasten the rear brake hose to the frame. This
will take points away. Because you already demonstrate you know what’s better. And
that’s important in building a solid bike for your customer and or yourself. It’s all about the
points when it comes to competition and a better machine.

I would like to thank everyone who participated in
the IMBBA industry party held in Daytona during this
years bike Week. Special thanks to our hosts, Boot
Hill Saloon and Johnny Lange Strip Club Choppers.
And for the wonderful sounds and entertainment by
the Dan lawson Band. Avon Tyres and Wimmer
Custom Cycles for sponsoring the event. As we are
now getting to look into 2013 a little better light has
shined upon membership and completion of courses
that I want to encourage builders to seek and gain
knowledge to the standards in motorcycle repair,
customization, restoration and services. Much has
improved and little recorded for the masses. IMBBA is working to reform these practices and will report
in the next issue the progress you all have placed in trust in me in getting to fusion.
One of the key focuses will be on the reality that government and manufactures continue to push
regulations on anti-tampering restrictions to manufactered motorcycles. Not just state by state herein
America but globally! As a trade we must pay attention to these changes as it is becoming burdensome
to build our passions and desires into a custom bike. Presently, and I have said this many times, if this
continues legally, a builder will not be able to obtain a license plate for a creation they made. Due in
part to our industry, until IMBBA, this industry had no third party certifying the tradesman, no
standards of procedures or practices, and no entity inspecting the work of these self proclaimed
professionals.
Presently, when a bike is involved in an accident, and it is not manufactured by top main stream
manufacturer, and god forbid, the rider or builder is killed or killed someone else, the attorney’s sue the
manufacturer, however small a licensed manufacturer or custom builder, they are not the right target
and has no real payout for the attorneys. So they are now turning to sueing the state for giving this bike
a license plate. Now, states and governments are minimizing their exposure by setting guidelines that an
individual or manufacturer who produces less than 300 bikes can now only build one bike a year.
Being a Master Plummer, Master Electrician, which has a third party certifying the tradesman as an
industry……….When was the last time, the government told them they could only plumb or wire one
house a year? So you see how important this is going to become if you as builders don’t seek a third
party association for your certification.
IMBBA is poised to help and record the builders expereinces and assign points of profiency to their
credit that will lead to a level of certification by a third party rather than, self proculamation. Visit
IMBBA website www.imbba.com and complete the “Certify Me” worksheet . Let’s make this industry
right!
