The Place:
Pichilemu is Chile’s Surf Capital located only 3.5 hours by bus from
Santiago on the beautiful, rural coast. Pichilemu is in the 6th region of
Chile, known for its deep huaso (cowboy) culture. Pichilemu is most
famous for its spectacular beaches with beginner to advanced waves. In
addition to surfing, students can spend their time mountain biking,
kayaking, learning to kite surf, horseback riding, and visiting near-by
wineries and local artisans. We are only a few hours from several ski
resorts and National Parks in the Andes mountains. Pichilemu is a small
town with many restaurants, internet cafes, pubs, and discos. Everything in
Pichilemu is within walking distance.
The School:
Our school is located in the historic district of Pichilemu in a large house
built in 1920. Students are welcome to use the reception area for studying,
using the internet, watching movies, exchanging books, drinking coffee,
and socializing. Our school also functions as an English language learning
facility and we like to promote cross cultural exchanges between students.
The local people ‘Pichileminos’ are friendly and interested in helping
students with practicing Spanish. Students can choose to stay with home
stay families, in cabins with kitchens, at hotels, or hostels.
Our Teachers and Teaching Philosophy:
At PILS we use a variety of US college textbooks combined with many
other activities and workbooks to make a complete, customized course for
each group or person. Each class also participates in “Living Spanish”
where students practice their Spanish in the town during instructor led
activities. Our teachers are college educated and have backgrounds in
either teaching English, teaching Spanish, or translation. The teachers are
creative, patient people who will work with the needs of their students.
While our instructors speak English, we prefer that they don’t speak
English during class. The quickest and most effective way to learn a
language is immersion - inside and outside the classroom.

Intensive classes, Study and Surf Program, City-Combination Program,
Volunteer and Study Program, and Online Classes. See website for details.
Choose from 9 different classes* and decide when and for how long you will study.
The Design your Own Program will be a mix of small group and private classes and can
start any time of year

Latin American Literature, & Spanish Conversation and Culture
through Reading. 15 semester credits total
Fall 2010 enrollment deadline: April 30th.
Start date: Sept.6th. End date: Dec. 17th
Spring 2011 enrollment deadline: Sept. 30th.
Start date: February 14th. End date: May 27th
Semester Program includes: Tuition, materials, transfer credits, housing with
a Chilean family + 3 meals, 2 local excursions, and 1 weekend trip.
