s the cost of travel continues to rise and the labor market
continues to improve, a company’s ability to quickly and costefficiently interview candidates is becoming more important.
The rise of mobile video interviewing means candidates and hiring
managers can connect more quickly and inexpensively than ever
before. This method of interviewing can be especially helpful if a
hiring manager travels extensively or if the interviewing team is
geographically spread out.
While video interviewing has been available for some time, historically,
it hasn’t been a great solution - it was expensive, the quality was
poor, and candidates either had to have a web cam or travel to a video
conferencing facility. However, the dramatic rise in smartphone usage
and improvements in video chat have made mobile video interviewing
much more appealing and easily accessible. Today, there are a myriad
of mobile video interviewing options available in both free and paid
services, and the majority of these services are available for most any
smartphone platform.

invitation from the company and then can download the mobile video
interviewing app to his/her device.

Spark Hire, which launched in February 2012 and touts itself as the
fastest growing video interviewing platform in the world, also offers a
mobile app for both pre-recorded and live interviewing for both Android
and Apple devices. The pricing for Spark Hire starts at $49/mo. for
unlimited interviewing and does not require contracts or set up fees.
In addition to these paid services, companies may want to consider
using some of the free video chat resources like Skype, FaceTime or
Google+ Hangouts for mobile video interviewing.
As mobile devices continue to grow in popularity and as the global
war for talent heats up again, having a flexible, mobile approach to
candidate interviews will give companies an advantage in hiring the
best talent as quickly as possible.

Ellevate – A Professional Network for High Achieving Women
On June 3, 2014, Sallie Krawcheck announced a relaunch of the famed 85 Broads as the Ellevate Network. 85
Broads was founded in 1997 by Janet Hanson who was the first woman promoted into sales management at
Goldman Sachs (the namesake comes from the street address of Goldman Sachs – 85 Broad Street). Krawcheck,
the former head of global wealth management at Merrill Lynch and former executive at Bank of America and
Citigroup, purchased 85 Broads from Hanson back in May 2013.
This is a great site for recruiters to identify top female candidates in their industry. Most of the site is private and
you have to be a member to participate; however, the site can be XRayed for member spotlights, success stories
and upcoming public events for various local chapters.
XRay ellevatenetwork.com to find spotlights of members by looking for the keyword “spotlights” in the URL
address. Add in additional keywords to describe the type of candidate profile desired.

Lastly, identify upcoming events by XRaying the site and searching for the keyword “events” in the URL address.
TIP: Eliminate the word “previous” from the URL address and add in the state you want to target!
In addition to these results, you can search for chapter pages to identify details about the upcoming events
including location, intent of the event and speaker bios.

Members joining the network can select from four different levels and must pay an annual fee. The various
levels come with different perks that include networking with top female execs, attending private events and
conferences.
The Ellevate Network is not only a professional networking organization but also an index fund comprising
companies that have better-than-average gender diversity in their top ranks. Anyone who joins the network
automatically becomes an indirect investor and can invest directly in the mutual fund by purchasing institutional
shares.

A question that is usually raised in the Talent Acquisition community
often revolves around the question: What does a sourcer do? There still
is no real consensus on the role of a sourcer, but most respondents feel
that a sourcer is one who generates names and prescreens candidates.
The debate is not quite resolved, but the community is certainly on its
way to a consensus.

This company sorts through the “noise” in recruiting by acting as a
matchmaker for candidates and companies. Similar to online dating
websites, they use proprietary technology to play matchmaker with
a candidate and a company. They accomplish this by using 50 unique
signals like skills, location and intent, to name a few. Candidates
will create a unique profile about their skills and qualifications and
Whitetruffle will review them and match them anonymously with
companies seeking/posting opportunities that align. Candidates will
then be notified when a company wants to meet them.

Companies benefit by increasing their reach beyond their current
network and identifying a candidate pool with qualified skills and thus,
cut sourcing time in half. Once a company signs up, they can post jobs
and then begin to receive daily matches and hire as many candidates
that the company wants for free. Once candidates are identified, a
company can “pass” or get the conversation started.

A candidate’s contact information isn’t shared with the company until
the candidate accepts the match. Thus, candidates that were reluctant
to share their resume in a public forum like Monster, are now free to
provide their profile to Whitetruffle without fear that the wrong people
might see their interest in leaving their current company. Only after
both parties “accept”, Whitetruffle will introduce the two sides via a
mutual email.

Hello Ello!
So there’s a new social network on the block – Ello.co. This site is currently generating some pretty significant
buzz in the world of social media, primarily because it claims to be the antithesis of Facebook. The site which
came into existence a mere eight months ago vows to not sell user-data, not show advertisements, and not
require real names for users.
Ello.co was founded by Paul Budnitz and about 6 developers in March of 2014. At this time, Ello requires an
invitation to join the site and current users are able to generate an invite code to share with others in their
network. It’s also possible to request an invite by entering an email address on the homepage (or by petitioning
for one on a different social networking site!)
The profile layout and site features
tend to be fairly sparse at present,
but the site does give users the
opportunity to say what they want,
add pictures, follow others and
make comments about posts.
The collective jury is still out on
the site due to the lack of a really
exciting search functionality,
no mobile app and a few other
UX hurdles, but at the end of
October there were over a million
members on the site and another
3 million waiting for invites.
