The board will meet at 6:30 P.M.
on Monday, October 10th at the
VFW. All Members are welcome to
attend.

MUSIC REQUEST FORM
It is easy to let the DJ know what songs
you want to dance to. Just fill out a
song request form located at the
Greeters Desk. All of our DJ’s will be
glad to play them for you. We hope to
see everyone on the dance floor on
Saturday.
NAMETAGS & CLUB
SHIRTS
The first Saturday of each month is
Club Shirt Night. Wear your nametag
to every club function. This helps our
members get to know each other. If
you have lost your nametag, we’ll
be happy to order you another one
for $3.
NOVEMBER ELECTION OF
OFFICERS
In November we elect the club officers
for the 2017 year. It is through the
support of all of our active members
that the club remains strong. Anyone
interested in becoming a member of
the board and helping to keep the
dance alive should speak to Allan
Guazzo. No experience necessary, just
a desire to make sure that the South
Strand Shag Club continues to be a fun
place and stays around for another 20
years. We need your help, please
consider becoming a board member.
MESSAGE FROM THE
PRESIDENT
Another month and another
party. Fall Migration S.O.S Party
at Pirates Cove in NMB. Over
100 of our club members attended
this great event. D.J music and
food was supplied by Pirates Cove
and paid for by the club. Wasn’t
the food delicious and there was
plenty of it with enough for
anyone who wanted seconds or
thirds to help themselves. The
dance floor was hopping as both
DJ’s played plenty of good music
keeping all of us dancing. Thank
you to Gretchen Johns for putting
together the wonderful basket that
we raffled off during the event.
The winner of the basket was
SSSC members Mike and Bonnie
who live in Pittsburgh, PA. They
are also members of the Steel City
Boogie Club. We also gave away
$162 in our split the pot drawing.
The winner was a visitor Terry
Tuttle from NC. Our next event is
the Halloween Party Saturday
October 29th so start planning
your costume. See below.

DID YOU KNOW
The South Strand Shag Club is a
member of an organization called
the Association of Carolina Shag
Clubs, or A.C.S.C. This
organization includes 97 Shag
Clubs from Ohio east to
Pennsylvania and from Maryland
south to Florida. In addition the
A.C.S.C. includes a sub
organization called the Society of
Stranders better known as S.O.S.
The purpose of both of these
groups is to keep the dance alive.
Each member club pays annual
dues of $50. There are 4 events
held each year by the A.C.S.C. and
S.O.S., Mid Winter Workshop,
NMB, S.O.S Spring Safari, NMB,
Summer Workshop, hosted by a
member shag club, and Fall
Migration, NMB. All member
clubs attend one mandatory 3-4 hr
meeting during each of these events
to review the organizations
financial information and discuss
various business and club issues.
Typically the President or the Vice
President of each shag club will
attend. Besides organizing and
managing these events the A.C.S.C.
and S.O.S. host both Fun Sunday
and Fun Monday, the Spring Safari
Parade and the S.O.S. Company
Store. They also donate funds to
the Phil Sawyer Scholarship Fund,
Hall of Fame Foundation, Junior
Shag Association, Ellen Taylor
Foundation and many other worthy
organizations in order to keep the
dance alive. So the next time you
pay $30 for an S.O.S. card or $10
for a Fun Sunday/Monday ticket
know that your money is going to a
strong organization dedicated to
supporting all activities associated
with the dance we all love, The
Carolina Shag.
