Bustling with old libraries, young fashion artists little shops, nineteen century historical cafes, contemporary art galleries and buzzing terraces full of young fresh people having their appetizers. Both districts were traditionally linked to the Madrid 2nd of May 1808 uprising and later to the famous 80s cultural movement “Movida Madrileña”. We invite you to mingle urban landscapes, modernist architecture, and contemporary art and of course, have a taste of the most traditional Spanish “tapas” and wines. Lavapiés, our cultural kaleidoscope Lavapies, once the Jewish quarter in the times of the Catholic Kings, is nowadays a vibrant kaleidoscope of multiculturalisms in Madrid. Small Chinese and Arab shops, restaurants with Indian, Moroccan, Lebanese or Senegalese cuisine will be among the variety of cultural presence in this beautiful quarter. With this walk we are willing to open the heart of Lavapies and its intense cultural and handcrafts activities, where you will also be able to experience the Spanish food during the visit. The itinerary finishes right at the Reina Sofia modern art museum, house of one of the most word renowned Pablo Picasso paintings: “El Guernica”. MADRID 5 Our Products Feel the city series Feel Barcelona main walks El Borne Once known as la Ribera (Sea Shore), it´s from the X century one of the most traditional and genuine districts in Barcelona. Our cultural guide will take you through winding little roads and enigmatic squares and will make you feel as the Middle Ages masons who walked the same streets to build the astonishing gothic Santa María del Mar Church, also known as Cathedral of the Sea, right in the heart of El Born - that it is part of our visit. Nowdays, El Born is a lively and modern spot for Barceloneses spending their evening in trendy restaurants and cafes. Strolling around this beautiful district, you deserve to enjoy one of the best chocolate cakes in town, award-winning in 2005. Barcelona Food Markets Our cultural guide will take you in this beautiful walk for fresh food lovers, to deeply discover the most romantic and lively markets in Barcelona. We won´t miss the Mercat de la Boqueria, just at the heart of Las Ramblas, where “people eat, shop and gossip together doing what the Spanish excel at, living the live well and enjoying a sense of community” (Thomasina Miers, chef at the Wahaka restaurant in London). Followed by the Mercat de Santa Catherina, first closed market in town and named after a Dominican convent is now a jewel of architecture thanks to Enric Miralles renovation project almost shares the square in relevance with the stunning Gothic Barcelona Cathedral. A third visit will take you to La Barceloneta Market renewed in 2007 by the architect Josèp Mias has also been awarded with the City of Barcelona award in the same year.
