In the 1930s, they were chorus dancers together at the Cotton Club and the Apollo Theater. They got back together in 1985 to put on their tap shoes and perform again. We’ll watch a documentary film about the sensational Silver Belles, and then talk by Skype with Heather MacDonald, the director of the film. She was a member of Chicago’s black elite, and some say she modeled her cartoon characters on herself.
