Frank Fisher's Final Gift
Library and Facilities folks, along with other members of the campus
community gathered in the Egan Library Technical Services area
last Thursday morning to recognize Frank Fisher’s library materials
bequest before the books were shelved throughout the collection.
Frank, delivered UAS campus mail for many years, left approximately
520 volumes, including 8-10 video sets, to the Egan Library. The
collection is particularly strong in military history, American history
and biography, literature, and social issues. Other topics include
philosophy, political science, religion, and science. Almost 200 less
scholarly titles went to Friends of the Library Amazing Bookstore
providing support for local public libraries.
3) Credit Card Gifts of Visa or
Mastercard can be made by

A local note in the library catalog record identifies these materials
as part of the Frank Fisher Collection, and each volume contains
a bookplate acknowledging Frank’s contribution. Many were
instrumental in gathering and preparing this collection for library
users; among them are Becky Fitzpatrick, Candy Murdoch, Wayne
Haas, and Judy Regan. Frank’s contribution will enrich UAS and the
Juneau community libraries for many years, and his generosity is
greatly appreciated.

in the upcoming Faculty / Staff campaign. Forms will be sent

Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner
Silver Anniversary
Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004 6pm
September marks the 50th Anniversary of the University of Alaska Southeast Ketchikan. The campus will be
celebrating during the week of September 20 with the
following events:
Faculty and Staff wishing to take a student(s) to dinner should call
or email Tish Griffin Satre (465-6529/ tish.satre) right away! More
than 50 Students have signed up to be “hosted” by a faculty or staff
member for dinner on Thursday, September 16th. You can request
particular majors, the number you’d like to host and names if you
know any. Please be prepared to transport the students from the
Mourant Courtyard meeting place to your dinner destination and
return them to campus after the meal. As a retention activity there
are few activities that truly connect the student to the faculty in
a non-academic environment. Students have indicated that they
felt welcome at UAS, cared for and got to know someone by first
name early in their stay. Many wished to explore their major area of
interest with those teaching in the field. We’ll need over 20 homes
to meet the need of these first time freshmen! Please give it your
serious consideration. We know it’s a busy academic night, but
for those not teaching then, please take a student or two(or three)
home for dinner! Thanks! Tish, UAS Activities

programmatic accommodations are necessary, please contact the

interested in providing this service to another student.

at 465-1298.
Ketchikan
On August 23rd through the 27th the Gathering of Carvers was held
in Ketchikan and utilized UAS Ketchikan Technical Center as the
staging and work areas for three totem poles that were carved by a
multitude of carvers from Southeast Alaska as well as Japan. The
event was the first of its kind and organizer Nyna Fleury hopes that
it will grow into an annual gathering of master carvers.

that allows users to search by several criteria. This database
currently consists of over 1,300 photos in high resolution (300dpi)
.tiff format. Due to file sizes (ave. 6mb) the database allows for
both .zip and .sit compression while allowing users to collect their
desired photos to a cart for future compression and retrieval.

Records & Registration.
Currently the archive covers from 1970 to present. No longer are
