KALMAR LOG STACKERS.
BOOSTING THE PRODUCTIVITY.
RTD1623
Wood handling performance
brought to a higher level.
Kalmar Log Stackers have been developed
with the highest possible performance
in mind. We have carefully analyzed the
different loading situations, work cycles and
applications.
The machine performance is a combination
of power and speed in both hydraulic
functions and transportation.
Due to the large grapples available and
the excellent stability of the Kalmar reach
machine concept, the Log Stackers are very
efficient for transporting logs at wood yards
or even on longer hauls.
As a result of their high stacking capability,
Log Stackers can utilize your storage space
very efficiently and build stacks of up to 9
meters high.
The grapple is the tool
The most important tool for high
performance is the grapple. Kalmar has
developed a unique range of grapples for
every possible application.
The new parabolic grapple form fills up
efficiently thus speeding up the gripping
procedure, but also maximizing the load in
the grapple. In most cases it is possible to
pick up the whole bundle from the truck
or rail car at one time; this is the key to
efficiency.
The power
Another key element for efficiency is the
power. The low emission diesel engines in
the range of 250 to 300kW supply energy for
the ZF Ergopower transmission; the tractive
effort is not interrupted during shifting.
Gear shifting is automatic with 4 speeds
forward and 3 speeds in reverse.
The Economy
The load sensing hydraulic pumps take only
the power needed for the actual hydraulic
movements, making it possible to drive
the machine and operate the hydraulics
simultaneously without loss of energy.
There are multiple pumps and circuits
in the system to facilitate simultaneous
independent hydraulic movements. The
result is speedy and efficient operation,
excellent fuel economy and low operation
temperature in the hydraulics, because all
energy losses have been minimized.
The extra wide low profile front tyres on the

tyres on its preceding model. There are real

machine can be controlled. The cabin offers
a spacious and ergonomic environment
for the operator with the comfort that is
essential for maintaining the operator’s
mental agility during the long and busy
working shift.
All the controls are within easy reach and
intuitive and all the functions are computer
controlled. Through a graphical user
Control
Important element for efficient
operation is how the various
functions of the
RTD3026
interface with colour display it is possible to
monitor all machine functions and even set
certain control parameters and features to
fit individual needs.
The colour display replaces all gauges and
pointers and automatically gives an alarm
with a message if the operator’s attention is
needed.
The climate inside the cabin is controlled
by the automatic electronic climate control
ECC. The operator just sets the desired
temperature and the system takes care of
the rest.
• Identical cabins and controls
• Common electrics
• Common control system and hydraulics
In short, only load and capacity related
components differ. This principle of
engineering offers several advantages for
the owner/user:
• Many spare parts are common
• Easier for service and diagnostics
•Easier for the operator to switch from
one model to the other at the same wood
yard.
The process machines
The platforms
Kalmar Log Stackers are built on two
product platforms: The RTD1623 chassis
and the RTD3026 chassis. By combining
these platforms with the available grapples,
it is possible to cover a load range from 14
to 30 tonnes and handling of cut to length
logs from 2 meters up to 6 meters or even
longer.
The two chassis alternatives actually have
very much in common:
Most mills operate 24/7, meaning that wood
yards function every weekday for 24 hours.
In practise this means that the Log Stackers
must be operational at all times and
constantly feed the mill with logs or unload
incoming wood.
This requirement makes the Log Stackers
the hardest working Kalmar products and
6000 hours of operation annually have often
been exceeded!
The cabin is equipped with
optional equipment.
Uptime and service
The 24/7 requirement sets very high
expectations for Log Stacker uptime and
availability. In the worst case, the whole mill
will close if the Log Stackers are down and
standing.
Parts availability, service and product
support for this kind of operation is crucial.
Kalmar can offer its customers full service
contracts to keep the machines serviced
and operational.
Manoueuvrability
There is often a lack of space at the wood
yard and narrow aisles. The turning radius
of Kalmar Log Stackers is extremely small;
these big machines can turn even where
there is little space.
Grapple options
We have suitable grapples for every
operation. And if not, we will produce one
for you!
The range of grapples for the RTD1623
varies from 4.0m2 to 6.5m2 and the grapples
for the RTD3026 from 7.0m2 to 8.5m2. The
most recent development is the parabolic
form, but the traditional V- and U-shapes are
also available. The appropriate grapple size
depends on the log length and bundle size.
Service access
Component layout and access are well
designed. The hydraulic functions are on
the left hand side and the electrics on the
right. The cabin tilts to the left (by means
of an electrically operated pump) allowing
good access to the power line components
and hydraulic pumps from the top. All daily
checks are concentrated in one place next
to the entrance to cabin.
