Problem:
Mitchell & Ness is manufacturing various styles of
sports jerseys under the names Hardwood Classics and
Throwbacks. As reported in the “Watchout” dated May 14,
2004, a number of these jerseys (RN#: 45149) contained
dyestuffs that became fugitive, and migrated onto the white
portions of these jerseys when laundered as instructed by
their respective care label instructions. Since then, The
NCA’s National Center For Garment Analysis has been
receiving an increasing number of these jerseys in various
styles that have proven to be unserviceable. While we are
still receiving jerseys that contain fugitive dyes, problems
such as the peeling of decals and the stiffening and
puckering of lettering and numerals, caused by the failure
of the their bonding or fusings have become a serviceability
issue.
Drycleaner:
Because of the serviceability problems surrounding these
jerseys, we advise that the customer must be advised of the
potential problem, and a signed release of liability should
be obtained prior to processing. Because the laundering
instructions vary for each jersey, read and follow the care
label instructions.
Recommendation:
If this jersey fails when laundered in accordance with the
care label instructions, it should be returned to its place of
purchase for a refund or exchange.
