ISO style inserts, used in all machine shops, historically
represent the most economical way to turn and bore.
Increases in raw material prices have driven the price
of these conventional inserts higher. ISCAR developed
FLASHTURN, a smaller IC yet thick insert to maintain
or improve MRR with less carbide. As a result, the same
or better performance in a smaller package is obtained,
providing cost savings for your customer.

Rough turning is characterized by high D.O.C. and higher
feed rates. Usually large single-sided inserts are used on
top-clamped toolholders to withstand interrupted cut and
high machining loads.
ISCAR has developed the DOVE IQ TURN system, featuring
a double-sided insert with a dovetail pocket and prismatic
flanks to prevent insert movement which is common under
high cutting forces.

What application should you target?
Applications with large depth of cut and heavy feed
rates. Large diameter parts where single-sided CNMM
inserts are typically used. 3/4" IC CNMG inserts
typically perform this application.
What might be happening with the current
application and tooling that identifies it

Chatter and unpredictable catastrophic failure are key
indicators that an upgrade to DOVE IQ could make an
improvement. Look for insert instability in cut.

Why will it perform better?
Insert and tool pocket interface is a dovetail connection
that removes pressure from the pin and top clamp. The
insert cannot move in the pocket under high load.
New and improved R3P chipformer improves mechnical
shearing of material, reducing forces.
Lever lock design eliminates inference with coolant flow
and chip evacuation from the cutting area.
A double-sided insert potentially doubles the number of
cutting edges.
What application should you target?
Turning applications where DOC = or < .125” in steel and
SS. Primary target is the 1/2" IC insert. The CNMG 432
and WNMG 432 are the most common.

What should you expect?
You will potentially find operations using a much larger
insert than is necessary to make the cut. FLASHTURN
will allow for you to downsize the carbide insert and

productivity over CNMG inserts.
Why will it perform better?
It is the same thickness as conventional 1/2" IC inserts.
Additionally, new and improved chipformers and the
latest SUMO TEC grades improve machining economics.

and integral shank tools by doubling the number of
insert pockets.
The new 35mm blades feature the same general
dimensions with two additional pockets at the same

What application should you target?
Apply this product where PENTA IQ is unsuitable. Typically it
will be deep parting environments (exceeding 1.5” diameter).
What might be happening with the current
application and tooling that identifies it as

Insert being pulled out or falls out? – The frontal tang of the
holder prevents the insert from being drawn out of the holder.
Tool wear – TANG-GRIP's pocket has a positive stopper that
will ensure center-height repeatability and extended tool life.
If the customer is experiencing top clamp erosion,
TANG-GRIP will reduce or eliminate this.
Longer blade life – New tangential pocket connection better
manages cutting forces, reducing pocket deformation.
Chatter – a taller blade is more supportive and thus
reduces chatter.
Part flatness – a taller 35mm blade improves part
straightness, minimizing concave or convex surfaces.
Effective cost savings – economic 4 pocket blade cuts blade
consumption in half or even more.

PENTA IQ uses a large carbide insert with dovetail
clamping maximizing tool rigidity. The 5 cutting edges
create superior economics while maintaining the ability
to part common diameter bar sizes to center.
The tangentially mounted insert allows for replacement of
older HSS or brazed blades that may be present on older
machines dedicated to parting (such as multi-spindle bar
fed machines). The TANG-GRIP system has no top clamp
inference and the center height of the existing system can
be easily accommodated. Every machine that has a parting
application can benefit from a new ISCAR IQ solution.

All face milling applications requiring a soft cut and good
finish. You may be able to reduce or eliminate a grinding
operation.
Due to the dovetail clamping, for improved insert
stability under load.
Positive top rake for smooth, efficient cut.
Peripherally ground insert and large wiper land that
allows for very smooth finish.
Look for face milling applications where the current
system is producing an unacceptable finish or where
finish is critical and improvement is sought. Typical
face mills rely only on the screw to clamp the insert and
slight motion of the insert can occur, leaving poor finish
and poor tool life. DOVE IQ uses the dovetail “lock” to

This is the best cutter available today for helical
interpolation and ramping. Target pocketing and
profile milling applications.
Dovetail clamping.

Controlled insert index ensures cutting edge is used only

Typical profile mills will have an unstable insert pocket
connection. For difficult applications, screw failure is
