Our Mission, Vision and Values
 Our Mission, Vision and Values
We believe you can learn a lot about an organization if you know its
mission, vision and values. Here’s an overview of ours; they guide
everything we do.
MISSION
The mission of Goodwill of North Georgia is to put people to work.
VISION
Our vision consists of three elements:
• Profitable Growth
• Sustainable Mission
• Financial Strength
VALUES
Our values are not just what we believe to be important, they are the guiding principles for our
all our actions. We call them S.E.E.D.S.
Service – We exist to serve our communities and put people to work.
Excellence – We challenge ourselves to continually grow, learn and
improve.
Ethics – We are good stewards of all that is entrusted to us.
Diversity – We embrace diversity and respect all people in our
organization and in our communities.
Safety – We put safety first in all we do.
At Goodwill, our mission is a simple one:
we put people to work.
Every day, thousands of men and women face barriers that make it difficult for them to find work and earn a paycheck
to support their families. Sometimes it’s lack of training or education, limited job skills, or a disability. But with the
support of donors and shoppers, we overcome those barriers. Goodwill gives people the tools they need to find a job
which allows them to support themselves and their families.
At our career centers throughout North Georgia, Goodwill offers job-search resources, helps with writing a
professional résumé and cover letter, provides access to employment opportunities, delivers hands-on skill training,
and so much more. We provide access to important job search resources like computers, résumé writing tools, local
job listings, telephones, and photocopiers. We also host regular recruiting events, employment seminars, and even
offer software training.
Our training programs prepare people for careers in a wide array of fields such as retail, financial services, floor
technology, healthcare, traditional and green construction, forklift operations, and more.
If a person is facing challenges finding employment, we're here to help. Last year, 1.8 million donations helped us
serve more than 40,000 people and put more than 11,700 people to work!
Together, we’ll help more than 100,000 people go to work in the next five years.
Goodwill is an organization everyone knows, but few really understand. While our stores and donation centers are what most people associate with Goodwill, they fund our mission to put people to work. We do this by providing job training and placement services to help more than 10,000 Georgians gain employment every year. My role at Goodwill is [your job title/description]. So remember when you make a donation or shop in our stores, you are helping to put people in your community to work. Frequently Asked Questions
Before your first day, we know you will have plenty of questions about your
new job. Here are a few we can quickly answer for you.
How often do we get paid?
Paydays occur on Fridays every two weeks.
Will I be paid through direct deposit?
Yes. However, your first paycheck is likely to be a paper check until the payroll onboarding
process is complete. If you do not currently have a bank account, our payroll department will
issue your pay on an ADP Total Pay Card.
How do I sign up for benefits?
Once you start work, you will be given access to ADP SelfService, the online portal you will use
to enroll benefits. SelfService will also allow you to manage your personal information and
signup for training. For general information about our employee benefits, see the overview
included in your new hire packet.
Is the schedule flexible?
Each department at Goodwill has its own guidelines for scheduling. Contact your manager for
details, as the scheduling depends upon the needs of each business.
How long do we have for lunch and breaks?
Lunch and break times vary by department. Your manager will
provide details about your schedule.
What should I wear my first day at work?
As you learn about our business, you will find that our needs
vary by department and location. Some positions require
uniforms. In some cases, specific safety gear is also required.
So that you will know what to wear your first day, we have put
together some guidelines for you. The specific dress code for
your position and location should be discussed with your
manager after you start.
Employees in our stores and donations centers are required to
wear a uniform: khaki, navy blue or black pants and a solid blue
or white shirt with a collar. A Goodwill apron and I.D. badge will be issued after the first day and
should be worn at all times. Tattoos or body piercings (other than the ear for women) may not
be visible and should be concealed with clothing or makeup. Approved safety shoes must be
worn at all times.
Store Uniform
For staff not required to wear a uniform (Salaried exempt or professional non-exempt staff) our
practice is to wear business professional attire. Business casual is permitted on days when your
work is focused solely on internal customers.
Business Professional
Goodwill of North Georgia does not have casual Fridays, no jeans or casual wear is permitted.
There may be occasions where after-hours or off-site company events occur; the leadership
team putting the event together will provide direction about casual attire at those events.
Business casual is neat, and should look appropriate for even a chance meeting with a CEO. It
should not look like cocktail or party or picnic attire. Business casual is classic rather than
trendy.
Additional Dress Code Guidelines:
Jewelry, Makeup, Perfume, and Cologne: Should be in good taste. Body piercings, body jewelry
and body art, in the form of tattoos and other skin pigment alternations, is a personal choice.
However, management reserves the right to ask an employee to remove or cover anything that
is deemed to be inappropriate for viewing by customers and other employees. Also remember
that some employees are allergic to chemicals in perfumes and make-up, so wear these
substances with restraint.
For men, facial hair should be neatly groomed.
Skirt or dress should be no shorter than two inches above the top of your knees while you are
standing. While seated, your thighs should be covered.
Shoes/belt: Wear a belt and leather or fabric/microfiber shoes. Athletic shoes or hiking boots are
inappropriate.
Hats and Head Covering: Hats indoors are not appropriate unless it is part of your uniform.
Head wraps and head covers that are required for religious purposes or to honor cultural
tradition are allowed.
Avoid clothes, shoes, accessories or other adornments that compromise safety for yourself or
others in the workplace.
Management reserves the right to address any/all wardrobe concerns with staff.
