Our physicians work together to create seamless integrated care for our patients. With Health First Medical Group, you have the resources of a system with a team that supports your needs. What is an IDN? An IDN links care services and providers like our physicians, fitness centers, clinics, outpatient services, urgent care centers, hospitals and others into a unified system that shares information and resources to get people the right care at the right time for the right duration; no more, no less. Our goals for the IDN and for Brevard are lofty, but achievable. Health First’s goal is to perform in the top 10% nationally in safety, quality of care, customer experience and cost efficiency. The measures we are using are objective and we compare ourselves to other health systems across the country. We will not be average. We will be exceptional. Who is Health First? Health First is a health care IDN located on Central Florida’s east coast. We serve patients and their families, members, and clients from Brevard and Indian River Counties. Our Board of Trustees consists of dedicated men and women with extraordinary talents, experience, and awards in many fields, including community service. The System Executive Leadership Team is comprised of exceptional individuals, many with long careers with prestigious healthcare organizations. The management team is matrixed with a system focus on quality, safety, customer experience, strategic growth and stewardship. The system employs approximately 7,800 associates. Among Health First’s greatest strengths are the wide spectrum of services offered and the remarkable diversity and dedication of the highly skilled, compassionate professionals who provide them. A Brief History Health First’s roots run deep in Brevard, dating back to 1937 when Brevard Hospital first opened in Melbourne with 27 beds. Now known as Health First’s Holmes Regional Medical Center, the hospital is Brevard’s largest with 514 beds. Health First’s Cape Canaveral Hospital opened in 1962 with 44 beds and has since grown to 150 beds. Health First’s Palm Bay Hospital opened in 1992 as a satellite of Holmes Regional with 60 beds and now has 152 beds. Health First was formed in August of 1995 when Holmes Regional Medical Center, Palm Bay Hospital, and Cape Canaveral Hospital joined together to create a not-for-profit Integrated Delivery Network and fulfill a common mission of improving the health of the community. Health First Health Plans launched in 1996 with commercial and Medicare plans. Health First Physicians opened its doors in 1995 and merged with another physician group, Melbourne Internal Medicine Associates (MIMA), in 2013 to form the largest medical group in Brevard County. The Heart Center at Holmes Regional Medical Center performs more cardiac procedures than all other hospitals in Brevard. As the area’s leader in Heart & Vascular Services, the Center features all private rooms, state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization suites and adjoining pre- and post-procedure recovery areas. A roof-top landing site for the Health First’s First Flight EC135 medical helicopter has dedicated elevator access to the Level II Trauma Center and Emergency Department at The Heart Center. The Trauma Center at Holmes Regional Medical Center is the only state-accredited Level II Trauma Center serving Brevard and Indian River Counties. Offering 24/7 trauma and critical care services 365 days a year, the Trauma Center serves as the designated treatment facility should NASA astronauts need emergency care after aborting a lift-off. Health First’s Palm Bay Hospital Health First’s Palm Bay Hospital is a full-service, acute care hospital offering a broad spectrum of healthcare services including, but not limited to, diagnostic cardiopulmonary services, inpatient and outpatient surgery and critical care. It features an emergency department with seven private treatment rooms, two trauma care beds, an eight-bed Intensive Care Unit, eight telemetry beds for cardiac monitoring, and four operating suites. Health First’s Viera Hospital Health First’s Viera Hospital opened in 2011 as a digital hospital with expansion capabilities to serve Brevard County’s growing population. Viera Health Park’s plan includes Health First’s Viera Hospital, the Health First Viera Medical Plaza which contains a Diagnostic Center, the Space Coast Cancer Center and the Viera Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Center, and the 68,000 square foot Health First Viera Pro-Health and Fitness Center. Health First VitalWatch (eICU®) Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patients at all four hospitals additionally benefit from our remote elCU® VitalWatch 24/7 monitoring system, Central Florida’s only electronic Intensive Care Unit. Provided without charge to patients, VitalWatch does not replace the patient’s personal physician or nursing care, but adds another layer of support to ensure the best possible outcomes.
