Yoga Studio Director/Owner Kendra
Blackett-Dibinga MPP, MPH is a certified
Bikram Yoga instructor, a former personal
trainer and a wellness advisor. She has taught
in various studios in the DC metropolitan area.
In June 2011, after successfully completing a
9-week intensive course on the study of
Bikram Yoga/Hatha system, Kendra received
her Bikram Yoga certification. Kendra directs
the athletes training program.

BENEFITS OF BIKRAM YOGA
THE PROGRAM
Bikram Yoga is becoming increasingly popular
among athletes and sports enthusiasts.
Practicing Hatha Yoga postures (asanas) is the
only natural physical activity where you gain
energy, instead of losing it.
Every athlete has the potential to enhance his or
her ability in their chosen sport by incorporating
a consistent yoga practice. Bikram yoga
improves performance of the body's circulatory,
muscular, skeletal, respiratory, and nervous
systems. Yoga trains the athlete's body to utilize
multiple areas of the body thereby reversing
compensatory patterns that arise from repetitive
training regimens. Bikram yoga offers a wide
range of physical health benefits while also
improving the athlete's focus and
concentration. Increased body awareness may
help athletes become less injury prone.
Additional benefits of hot yoga for athletes
include:
Bikram Yoga Riverdale Park and Ivy City offers
programs for high school athletes, elite
athletes and teams of all skill levels. Programs
are customized to meet group, team, and
individual training needs and schedules. The
program is designed for a minimum of six
weeks to optimize results. Sessions are held
weekly at our state-of-the-art facilities in
Bikram Yoga Riverdale Park (MD) and Ivy City
(DC). During 60 or 90 minute sessions, athletes
are taken through 26 postures and 2
breathing exercises in a room heated to 95 105 degrees and 40% humidity. Athletes are
coached by highly experienced instructors
who have multiple certifications in yoga and
personal training.
Bikram Yoga's 26-posture systematically moves
fresh, oxygenated blood to one hundred
percent of your body, to each organ and fiber,
restoring all systems to healthy working order,
just as Nature intended. Proper weight, muscle
tone, vibrant good health, and a sense of well
being will automatically follow.
Post-workout, athletes often have sore,
energy-depleted muscles. A few yoga poses
after a workout can make the difference
between energized muscles and bouts of
muscle stiffness.

Our program achieves results. After a 10 week
session (1x a week) the Basketball team
finished 33-4 and won the Maryland State
Championship for Private Schools. In
addition, their players were virtually injury free.
