of conference tables, chairs,

Park Rentals
The Village of Algonquin is pleased to announce two additional
park pavilions now available for rent. The pavilions at Willoughby
Farms Park, Cornish Park, Riverfront Park, and Hill Climb Park
(south) are available for group parties and events.
Cornish Park is a 2.43-acre park
located next to the Fox River.
The park has many attractive
features: a playground, walking
path, fishing spots, beautiful view
of the river, and a gazebo. It’s also
located just east of Main Street, so
there are always good stores to hit
on your way to, or from, the park!
Riverfront Park is a 1.5acre park located right on
the Fox River. The park has
many attractive features: a
playground, walking path,
fishing spots, beautiful view of
the river, and a gazebo. There
are also two basketball courts
at the far end in case you just
want a nice game of hoops.

Pysanky Class:
Ukrainian Easter Eggs
Ladies/Girls Mardi Gras Class
Instructor Alexa Newman has been teaching the art of pysanky
for 30 years and making them for 40 years. Over the years, she
has taught pysanky classes across the US. In this workshop, we
will be making beautiful Ukrainian Easter eggs-pysanky. You
will learn the method of batik – also called wax-resist dying.
You will also be familiarized with the wide range of Ukrainian
folk art traditional patterns, designs and symbols, and their
history. The designs are made with beeswax which is melted in
the flame of a candle and applied to the egg using a tool called
a kistka. The eggs are dipped into progressively darker dyes.
At the end of the process, the beeswax is melted off to reveal
the beautiful and colorful design. You may use the traditional
patterns or freestyle and make up your own design. You will go
home with one or more completed pysanky.
Students will need to bring an additional $20 for supplies
paid to the instructor.

A pysanka (plural: pysanky) is a Ukrainian Easter egg,
decorated using a wax-resist (batik) method. The word comes
from the verb pysaty, “to write,” as the designs are not
painted on but written with beeswax. The word pysanka refers
specifically to an egg decorated with traditional Ukrainian folk
designs and is not a generic term for any egg decorated using
wax resist.
Celebrate Mardi Gras by painting and designing your very own
masquerade mask that can be used for a fun party or displayed in
your home! You get one half-eye mask and one full-face mask.

Meet Cory Cosman
I started practicing yoga in 1997
and have been teaching since 2009.
I believe that every body type, no
matter what the current physical state,
can benefit from yoga. Yoga gives you
the opportunity to stop and listen to
your body and your mind. I became
a teacher so that I could give back to
students what my teachers had given
to me through the years: compassion, patience, peace and release.
My style of teaching is traditional Hatha Yoga. This style is based
in holding each asana (pose) for 3-5 minutes in order to gain body
awareness and strength as well as mind focus.
Classes:
• Evening - All Level Yoga
Meet Tricia Wallace
I began practicing yoga 12 years
ago as a means to reduce stress and
found not only relief but a path
of self-exploration and personal
growth. I have more than 1,000
hours of teaching experience and am
registered through Yoga Alliance.
My classes include a balance of
alignment, dynamic movement,
stretching, meditation, and breath work.

Developmental Soccer League
Join All Star Sports Instruction for our spring development
soccer league. Our goal is to create a fun, safe, learning
environment that enables kids to experience soccer whether they
have played before or are just beginning. The successes of each
team and player in this league are not based on the score or team
records, but how the players grasp the concept of the game and
understand the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship. We
will deliver a curriculum to our players according to their skill
level to help build a foundation for a great career in soccer. Each
game will be preceded by a twenty minute skill training session
so the player can apply the learned skill in that game. All players
will receive a participation award and team jersey.
Each player must bring their own soccer cleats, shin guards,
and soccer ball (size 4) to all classes.

Knife Defense
This basic knife survival course is designed to provide the student
with the knowledge, skills, and mind-set to dynamically respond
if confronted by an attacker armed with a knife or similar-edged
weapon. Knife attacks are incredibly dangerous and hard to
defeat, which is why our goal is to survive them. The ability to
immediately respond to the threat is directly related to a person’s
chances of surviving an attack. No experience is necessary for this
class and everyone is encouraged to attend.

Policies
Youth Fee Assistance Program
The Village of Algonquin Youth Fee Assistance Program
(YFAP) is designed to provide Village of Algonquin
families with the opportunity to get their children involved
in safe, quality recreation programs that they could
normally not afford. There are set guidelines and criteria
that applicants must meet in order to be considered for the
program. Applications for YFAP can be found at the Ganek
Municipal Center or at www.algonquin.org/recreation. To
donate to YFAP, all registrants have the option of adding a
donation to their total fees at the time of any class or event
registration.
If this is your first time registering for an Algonquin
Recreation program, you will need to send an e-mail
requesting to have an online account created to:
[email protected]
In your e-mail request, include your first and last names,
street address, city, state, zip code, a primary contact
telephone number, date of birth, and e-mail address.
Staff will send you a confirmation that your account has
been established as well as instructions for logging in. This
may take up to two (2) business days to complete.
