Visit www.cityoflights.org.uk and make a donation #YourCOL www.cityoflights.org.uk How to Enjoy City of Lights 2015 Plan your viewing spot Boscawen Street, Lower Lemon Street and St Nicholas Street are always busy. Good spots for children and families are towards the top of Lemon Street. Plan your journey into town All the car parks are open and the Park & Ride will be in full operation. The road closures in the centre of the city will be in place on a phased basis from 3pm so do plan your journey. All of the main arterial roads remain open throughout but there will be a lot of traffic. Trains and buses will be operating to their usual schedule although some bus routes will be amended whilst we close Green Street (7–9pm). Follow the theme This year’s theme is the ‘Museum of Lost Stories’, curated in partnership with Royal Cornwall Museum and the archives of the Royal Institution of Cornwall. Watch out for lanterns inspired by fascinating artefacts and gems from our past. Share your stories and follow us on social media #YourCOL. Support the event with a donation The event costs around £30,000 to put on each year – including withy, paper, candles and lighting, materials, artist’s expertise, security and insurances. Support us by making a charitable donation so we can continue to light up Truro with this stunning event. Food & drink All the usual eateries in Truro will be open throughout the event and there will be a variety of food traders operating from 3pm on Lemon Quay, Boscawen Street and King Street. If you want to eat in, remember to book your table in advance. Crowds City of Lights is a fantastic community event that attracts a lot of people into the city centre so please travel light and avoid bringing pushchairs or prams into the highly crowded areas in Boscawen Street, Lemon Quay, and St Nicholas Street. Entertainment There will be street performances around the city before and after the procession itself. As well as the switching-on of the Totally Truro BID-funded Christmas lights. thank you to everyone who supports us rt sC ou er ne St St Victoria Square Kenwyn St Bac Pan n Mark ier et Le m St on Ma reet rke t d et tre e t Ro a Route finish P point le St re ws m Ta be rn ac on S Str eet Le rles Me Cha P mo n d Police Le yR ay Lem on Qu ay Ca len ick St ree t k Qu Cit Fair m ant le S tree t Coach Park Fair m ant Ca re e t Route Start point t rc le el Ro w on St w St re e t le S tree t R ’s Rdn y ’s ubynb Au tA S St Ch ap m Le Infirmary Hill Health Park M Strangways Terrace d Richard Lander Monument on Barrack Ln Route Media Centre Cl V ie w Start Point Schools d Gwendroc Pa rk Park Vie per S choo l Ln Burley Cl City of Lights 2015 Procession Route Falmouth Rd School Ln li g David Pen D g on avidhaliP eWnayha Truro High School for Girls St Riv Qu er All a en ew y St s Prin ces Stre et Fle Mar a ket Walsingham Place t S ke Du t Boscawen Stree St ge rid wB Ne St ay Qu St Nicholas arys Cathe d ral La King Little Castle St River St St M ell P re et ross Aus t g rid dB Ol High C Royal Cornw all Museum w Post Office Rd nd Hurla Gre en S tree t s ew t Na ld The Leats Frances S treet n niell S re e rM Py da Edward S Street Gardens Qu Important information about 2015’s event Disabled viewing area There will be designated disabled viewing areas on Lower Lemon Street (which is ticketed, spaces limited) and on River Street outside Royal Cornwall Museum. Selected alleyways and opes within Truro city centre will be closed during the event. This includes Roberts Ope (between Lower Lemon Street and Boscawen Street ) and Cathedral Lane, in the direction from St Mary’s Street onto Boscawen Street (exit from Boscawen Street via Cathedral Lane will be permitted). The north side of St Nicholas Street opposite NatWest will also be closed to spectators, to allow the parade to safely access this narrow part of Truro. Due to the popularity of the event, some areas of the city centre get very congested. We ask for your cooperation if the stewards ask you to move to a less congested area.
