Grandpa Wants To Go To The North

seventeen year old Esther has kidnapped her mildly dement Grandpa from the care home. They are

pass Frido off as her own grandfather, which is not that easy in his more lucid moments. The old man

Viola and Leon only shared a few nightly hours. She needed a roof over her head and he had nothing
better to do. The next morning Viola leaves Leo’s flat share, in a way as if the meeting had not left a
lasting impression on her. Yet then she begins to write to Leo. She tells him why she ended up in
Berlin, why she hasn’t seen her family in eight years and is now going home for her sister’s funeral.
She sends her letters to Leo’s address, but the letters never get to him, for he has set off on a journey.
One day, after hundreds of kilometres, he takes a piece of paper and begins to write to the woman
with whom he spent just one night …

Lenja loves Ben. That is set in stone. Annoyingly, Ben has just dumped her and is planning to join
‘Medecins sans Frontieres’. But Lenja knows how to stop him: She takes on the role of 76-year old
Karla and moves into the retirement home where Ben works. Naturally she is perfectly prepared for
her role – not only for the charming slyness of her new fellow occupants. They soon offer advice and
assistance, for Lenja, alias Karla, has to do without her female charms …
The author:
What if … instead of completing the sensible university course, a girl where to work as a party girl on Ibiza?
Had done a runner with an Argentinian polo player instead of choosing the marriage-suitable tax advisor? Or
had ‘simply gone’ and bought a one-way ticket to LA? Would the aforementioned woman now be walking
down the red carpet to the Oscars as George Clooney’s girlfriend? Or as a neurotic drunk on the highway to
hell? These are the sorts of thoughts that I daydream about. And, as I sadly – like most people – only have one
life to live, I let the characters in my novels try out these crazy thoughts for me! So as to make things easy,
most of them share my characteristics – the good and the bad! I have my best ideas when I head out for a forest
walk with my three dogs.

Sea‘s Up
Knaur, March 2016, 272 pages
Claudius Pläging, born in 1975, has full-time fun: He writes for the TV greats like Stefan Raab, Anke Engelke
or Olli Dittrich. His work does not only always guarantee lots of laughs; it also brought several German
comedy prizes and two Grimme prize nominations. ‘Sea’s Up’ is not an autobiographical novel, for Claudius
Pläging would never chase a tie to Rumania – a tie! -, and that because of a woman. But this is precisely what
the novels protagonist Jonathan does, as the aforementioned tie was a gift from Friederike, his fiancée,
especially for the upcoming wedding ceremony. The tie mistakenly lands on the used clothing collection
container and sets off for the wild east. His two best friends accompany Jonathan on the foolhardy rescue
mission, as does the hitchhiker Paula, who would never force Jonathan to wear a tie.
A light and fluffy road trip through Germany and Eastern Europe, at whose end waits love.
The author:
Claudius Pläging, born in 1975, initially worked as an editor with the ZDF. Since 2002, he has been a
permanent member of the writing staff for ‘TV Total’. He also writes for various entertainment shows

Cash Club
Droemer, January 2016, 448 pages
It all started with a few Californian teenagers coming up with a crazy plan: They did not want to be

Germany and Alex was trained as a croupier in Atlantic City, and Stan became a policeman. Then the
inconceivable happened: A megalomaniac teenage dream turned into reality. The cash club was born.
The four friends print deceptively real virgin dollars in huge amounts. This amount of counterfeit
money cannot stay undetected. CIA, FBI and the Federal Reserve Bank begin the hunt for the best

Marthaler was a scrupulous, cold business dealer, who not only humiliated his employees, but also obstructed a

Mohamed’s biography was written 200 years after his death – with political intention: Muslim
princes were seeking to secure their positions and oppose Jesus with one of their own legitimised
ruling redeemer figures. However, the ambivalent image of a figure, radically changing and suffering
from psychic issues, has been maintained. Here the mild, there the violent Mohamed. In his

traditions to this day – and why radical Islamists cite the ‘Prophet’ with the same right as secular and
integrated Muslims.

The German Left Party is in its deepest crisis since the 1960s. Hopelessly at loggerheads, it is unable
to form a government. The SPD government, frozen at 25 per cent, is without a chance of
chancellorship; the Left Party likes to see itself as the fundamental opposition. All that remains for us
is therefore the ‘black’ conservative republic? A permanent CDU chancellorship? The consequences
would be devastating: Politics without change – even a permanent grand coalition – radicalising the

significantly lower that owning capital is today. This is why we often cannot afford the lifestyle that
our parents had, and this is why many employees, despite full-time jobs, still rely on government

What HAVING does to BEING
Pattloch, October 2015, 320 pages
How different we humans are. Some go on consumption binges – they buy cupboards full, delight in
owning material goods and draw self-affirmation from it. Others on the other hand could not care less
about owning things – they are searching for a meaning in life and orientated towards unusual
experiences that will help them along. The social psychologist Jens Förster shows very clearly under

Supressed wishes, dreams and desires make us humans tread water or give us the feeling that we are

New research in posttraumatic growth opens up a revolutionary and surprising perspective on the topic of

interviewed the human rights legend Maya Angelou, the successful autistic person Temple Grandin, the
Auschwitz survivor Coco Schumann and played the drums with Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen.
The reassuring insights from these people marked by blows of fate are confirmed by new scientific findings

The Meso Therapy
Knaur MensSana, August 2015, 144 pages
Meso therapy is a modern treatment method that combines conventional medicine with natural
concepts. It has been practiced successfully in France for over fifty years and presents a synthesis of
classical medical therapy, together with neural therapy, acupuncture, homeopathy and traditional
Chinese medicine. Extremely low-dosed medication mixtures are applied as close as possible to the
affected area, in form of numerous microinjections. There are almost no side effects due to the
precise substance mixture being placed at the right location. The gentle and almost pain free
treatment works fast and is sustainable – in particular in the case of chronic diseases. Meso therapy
does not treat the symptoms, meaning that the symptoms are not suppressed, but heals sustainably –
often lifelong.
The author:
Doctor Ursula Kreuzberger was born in 1968 and studied medicine in Munich. Following her clinical training
in Nephrology and Cardiology, she became a specialist for internal medicine. She continued her studies to
become a doctor of natural medicine and also completed additional training in acupuncture. In 2002, she set up
her own practice specialising in internal medicine in Munich. In the same year she completed her training as a
Meso therapist with the Society for Meso Therapy and also offers this exceptional treatment form in her own
practice. She was inspired by the success of this therapy and in particular by the amount of pain reduction that
her patients experienced. With this book she would like to respond to the often-presented question: “This is so
wonderful, why has nobody heard of it?” Doctor Ursula Kreuzberger has two children and lives in Munich.

Mantras
O.W. Barth, September 2015, 304 pages
What they mean, how to implement them, why they help
For centuries people have used power words, formulae or holy syllables in order to delve into their
inner feelings and to resonate with the divine. Meditation using mantras helps to free oneself from the
many disruptive influences to our awareness. This path builds upon the fact that the universe and all
that lives in it, consists of sound vibrations. Mantras are ‘mind power encased in sound’. This mind
power is used intensively in all cultures. Christine Stecher maintains a neutral perspective and does
not only place the focus on the birthplace of all mantra practice: India. In fact, in the lexical part, she
is able to present an overview that reflects the richness of the mantra world in all spiritual traditions.
Due to the wealth of background information and the clear, practical instructions, the mantras
become a helpful accompaniment in daily life.
The author:
Christine Stecher works as a freelance editor and non-fiction author covering subjects such as health,
holistic healing and spirituality. She first encountered mantras some twenty years ago through the
Indian wisdom teachers Amma and Gurumayi. This awakened her interest for the Holy Mother Mary
and the Christian tradition’s power formulae. As a practitioner of Kundalini yoga, she obtained a lot
of experience with the energising effect of mantras.

Barely any other country fascinates us as much as sunny Italy: the picturesque old towns, the great artists in the galleries and museums, Tuscany with its
incomparable landscapes and it full bodied red wines, the Mediterranean climate, the temperament of the citizens, the marvellous Italian cuisine, the
elegant clothing, the fiery language …
Goethe was already fascinated by the ‘Country where the lemons blossom’ and even today, Italy is one of the favourite destinations of the Germans. It is
therefore strange that at the same time, we have more preconceptions (and fear of its national football team) about the country (and its inhabitants) than
of any other.
Markus Ebert, actually a down-to-earth Lower Saxon, fell in love with the country (and one inhabitant in particular) in his student days and has been
living and working in the hustle and bustle of Italian culture for several years now. In this book, he tongue in cheek tells how you can come love and
understand Italy in 30 lessons, which preconceptions are true and which are false, and how to deal with them. In the to-ing and fro-ing within a southern
Italian large family, it took him a while to really arrive, and he now lets us take part in the typical situations that come about when you live in Italy for a
certain period of time – and don’t want to go to the dogs.
Markus Ebert, born in 1983 in Northern Germany, fell in love with a hot-blooded Italian girl and
moved to Italy with her, in order to start a career in his father-in-law’s automobile business. The
marriage took place after seven years of hard-core integration work. He has gathered together all his

This gift book is a wonderful proof of friendship – for your best friend, partner, mother, sister,

Then you have it in black and white. I’ll whisper it once more, quiet as night:
The fact that you are in my life is a true gift indeed, there is no more that I shall need.’
The author:
Karin Clauss studied sculpture at the Winchester School of Art in England and at the Emely Carr
Institute of Art & Design, Vancouver. She sketches and writes about those things that come her way,
mostly life itself, with all its habits, adversities and simple normalities. Karin Clauss lives with her
husband and two children in Berlin.
