Newsletter
July 10, 2016
Welcome back, Pastor Luke, after several weeks of continuing
education and vacation with the family. We were in good hands while
you were gone, but we’re happy to have you home!
Also, this morning’s special music will be provided by Carol Walter
accompanied by Lou Seiler. Carol has sung in
church choirs for many years. She heard the song “Broken
Treasures” several years ago and was immediately drawn to
the lyrics. She hopes you will find them as meaningful as she
does. Thanks to Lou for helping Carol make it happen, and
thanks to both of them for sharing their talents with us today.
Everyone’s invited to join our Sunday Afternoon Bike
Ride. Enjoy some healthy fun today at 4pm (weather
permitting) when we’ll begin at Green Isle Park and
ride the East River Trail. For more information about
the schedule or starting locations, contact Becky
Nyberg at 920-606-6438.
This Tuesday will be a busy day for all ages!
First, all families are invited to meet at Voyageur Park in De Pere
at 10am to play a while, maybe walk along the river and the pier,
and enjoy some wonderful outdoor activities together.
Also on Tuesday, our Presby Seekers group is trying something
different. All retirees are encouraged to gather at
6pm around a campfire at our church’s fire pit for hot dogs, s’mores,
and maybe even some good old camp songs. There will also be a
program by the Griffins focusing on their involvement with the Boy
Scouts (the church fire pit was Cole’s Eagle Scout project).
Everyone should bring their own beverages and lawn chairs.
Note: The Presby Seekers are seeking campfire forks to cook the hot dogs. Contact
Judy Nighorn, Paul Jensen, or the church office if you have some you could share.
Ted and Lynn Huebbe are inviting everyone to a fun night of
Games in the Garden! We’ll meet near the Church’s Memorial
Garden this Wednesday beginning at 5:30pm for an evening of
lawn games, a campfire, and s’mores. Ted and Lynn will be on
hand to answer questions about the garden, but the focus will be
on fun, not work. Please bring lawn chairs and games to share.
The s’mores will be provided!
“Night Under the Stars” Camp Out is Coming!
After 4pm on Friday, everyone’s invited to set up a tent, pop up, or travel trailer
around the church yard for a night to remember. We’ll have a campfire,
s’mores, and beverages. Please bring your own picnic or food to cook over the
fire. You can also sleep in the church building or just enjoy the evening and
then leave. Saturday morning, we’ll have breakfast together before heading
home. Contact Meggan Farwell at [email protected] for more details.
Experience Special Services the Next Two Weeks
Next Sunday we’ll gather for “The Church Unplugged.” Using
minimal technology, we plan to focus on the special challenges and
blessings that smaller membership churches experience every week.
On Sunday, July 24, we’ll gather outside in the
church yard for a summer tradition - Worship in the Garden!
This special outdoor service, featuring special music by the
Church Steps String Band, will be followed by a picnic for
everyone. That’s also the same day V.B.S. begins, so it
promises to be a very busy and exciting morning.
Vacation Bible School 2016 begins two weeks from today!
On July 24, “Cave Quest” will begin for kids pre-K through 5th
grade. Register your children today on our website
(www.firstunitedpc.org). The suggested donation is $10 per
child (maximum of $20 per family). For more details, contact
Meggan Farwell at [email protected].
Something new! If evening hours work better for your schedule, check out VBS at
our sister church, Green Bay’s First Presbyterian. Theirs will run August 1 through 4
from 5:30-8pm with the theme of “Living Waters for the World.” More details and
registration is available at their website (www.firstpresgreenbay.org).
More Stuff You Should Know…
† Church Softball is back! Tonight at
6:45pm our team will take on the team
from Trinity Lutheran at Cornerstone
field #1. We need more players of any
skill level. Can you join us?
† Everyone’s encouraged to help
maintain our Judy Allan Memorial
Garden. Ted and Lynn Huebbe have
volunteered for this week’s routine
upkeep. If you’d like to help, contact the
Huebbes at [email protected]
or [email protected].
† We’re forming a special Summer
Choir for next Sunday’s “Church
Unplugged.” We’ll have one rehearsal
Sunday at 8:30am, and we’ll be singing
“Amazing Grace.” Everyone’s invited
from Middle School age to adult.
† Our church is a member of the
De Pere Christian Outreach. In June
their Pantry helped feed 341 adults and
257 children! They’re currently in need
of laundry detergent, shampoo, baked
beans, mac & cheese, spaghetti sauce,
Manwich, and Hamburger Helper.
† The July Presbyterian Pantry “Item
of the Month” is chicken noodle soup.
† “Wine, Cheese, Justice, and Jazz”
is a big fundraiser for JOSHUA set for
Friday, July 22, at 7pm. For more
details go to joshua4justice.org.
† For those interested in the important
work of JOSHUA, there will be a
meeting on Sunday, July 24, following
our Worship in the Garden.
