November’s Theme
Growing Up In America
This month as we continue our “Watch Us Grow” theme, we
will learn about life as a pioneer. With all that we have today, what did was the life of a child like as the early settlers
came to America. We will also compare our life in the United
States to that of life in other countries. Parents are encouraged to talk to their children about their experiences as
a child. If you have any special activities, photos, or stories
to share, please talk to your child’s teacher. We love having
parents and grandparents join our
classes to share a
part of their life.

A new way for families to communicate with teachers
Sometimes the best ideas come from parents. A suggestion has come
to have “Teacher Folders”, just like the ones we have for families. A
second basket will now be placed on the desk for parents to drop a note
to a teacher. We would still like to encourage direct communication and
engaging in those meaningful conversations with your child’s teachers.
This is just an addition for those quick notes.
Adjusting to the end of Daylight Saving Time
While most of us love the start of daylight savings, the end of daylight saving can seem depressing! By
moving the clocks back an hour, all of a sudden seems like summer is nearly finished for another year,
boo hoo.
The other main downside to the clock’s going back is another interference to your children's sleep and
bedtime. Although adults and older children can usually quickly adapt to a new wake up and sleep
time, especially if they are already a little sleep deprived, it can be more difficult for younger children.
After moving the clocks back an hour, children who were used to going to bed 7pm are likely to be
ready to go to bed at 6 pm. While that may be okay, they may then be likely to wake up at 6am –
which may not be OK!!
So again, be proactive and prepare for the clocks going back. This should minimize the interference to
your baby's sleep and help them adjust much quicker.
Assuming a 7pm bedtime:

Routine during the day
Usual sleep & feed times
Bedtime
7.00pm
Sleep & feed times 15 mins
later, (eg first feed at 7.15am
not 7am).
Sleep & feed times 30
mins later (eg first feed at
7.30am not 7am).
Sleep& feed times 45 mins
later (eg first feed at 7.45am
not 7am).
Wake your child at 7am (new
time), then your usual routine times for feeds & sleeps.
7.15pm
7.30pm
7.45pm
7.00pm (new time)
If your baby or toddler wants to sleep in a bit later (after you start adjusting their bedtime, then allow
this.
Try and adjust the routine from the first feed of the day by 15 mins each day. if your baby can't last
first thing in the morning, just try to make the routine adjustments as the day goes on.
Put your clock back on Saturday night before you go to bed.
Check your smoke alarms at the same times.
Have you begun to receive all those
holiday catalogs and magazines?
Don’t throw them in the trash or
recycle bin...send them to school.
We are collecting magazines for
many different cutting activities.
Look for the collection box at the
front desk.
Wanted: Rice Owls gear in 3T or
4T, especially a t-shirt and a
cheerleader outfit. The bookstore is all out! Happy to pay.

Fall
Festival
Fun!
Nursery I
Nursery II
Nursery I had a blast during the
month of October. We enjoyed singing
songs like “ Five Little Pumpkins “ and
reading books like “ Berenstain Bears
Trick or Treat. The kids explored pink
paints as the teachers painted Uniqua
from the Backyardigans on a pumpkin
for the pumpkin contest. Nursery I
joined forces with Nursery II during
the fall Festival to make decorative
wristbands which was a big hit with
the entire children's campus. Stay
tuned as we look forward to having
even more fun in November.
During the month of October our friends worked on
scooting , pulling up and walking. We enjoyed exploring the inside of a pumpkin and painting with orange
and brown paint. Ms Ginny took really fun pictures
of our pumpkin art work and Ms Melanie let us explore outside in the Zen Garden during our playtime.
Nursery II is also proud of Ian and Anika they will
be moving on to Transition . We would like to welcome little Vivianne ( Vivi) to our class. Reminder:
Parents please remember that on Monday’s to put all
supplies away and make the bed for the week. Please
sign your child’s daily communication sheet every
morning. Thanks, So much Nursery II team
Dr. Maria Montessori Quote:” Respect all the reasonable forms of activity in which the child engages
and try to understand them”.
Toddlers
Transition
The Transition class has had a spooky
time through out October. We have
enjoyed painting, making handprint
spiders, footprint ghosts and Picasso
pumpkins. We are excited about texture of leaves ,pumpkins and feathers.
Some of our sensory activities will entail colored pudding , jello and applesauce! Transition is excited to welcome Anika and Ian!
The month of October was spooky and fun.
The Toddlers class learned about pumpkins
(calabazas), bats (murcielagos), mummies
(momais), spider (aranas)and much more. We
decorated our classroom windows with lots of
exciting art. The “5 Little Pumpkins” poem
was a great hit . The children wanted to hear
it over and over . We also enjoyed our practical life lesson of washing a pumpkin and getting soapy. The children used their senses by
carving a pumpkin and observing its inside. For
the month of November, we will learn “ Growing up in America.” We will also say good-bye
to Leah and Maria as they transition to the
Two’s classroom. They will be missed! I would
like to remind our parents to please label all
clothing as well as the children’s toys that are
brought to class.
Two’s
Primary II
Oh how we loved everything October had to
offer. We had fun painting jack-o - lanterns,
making bats and even ghosts with our feet! We
also planted pumpkin seeds and explored colors,
smells, and weather the fall brings. Our fall
festival was also a hit thanks to the parents. In
November we will learn about Thanksgiving and
talk about what we are thankful for as well as
learning about different foods like pumpkin pie,
turkey, corn and also learn about the native
Americans and pilgrims by reading stories and
singing songs. We are all very excited! We also
would like to say farewell to Milan and Ben who
transition to primary and welcome Maria and
Leah!
The month of November is highly significant in America, due to the Thanksgiving
holiday. For this reason, the Primary II
class will learn about the history and
origination of Thanksgiving, including the
legacy of the first pioneers. We will continue our science lessons to learn about
parts of the body and mammals. Primary
II would like to welcome Sarah and Annabella! We also look forward to celebrating
Marisa, Amelia, Ms. Christine and Ms.
Maria’s birthdays in November. As you
can see, we have plenty to celebrate in
November
