Don’t Forget anyone can
submit things to the Heat
wave. Just see Mr. Harris
with any questions on this
If you find an error that
we missed in the Heat
Wave, show it to Mr.
Harris. If you are the
first to point it out it is
worth 1 heat buck!

On February 1st, 2015 on NBC in Glendale AZ, a battle between the 14-4 Seattle
Seahawks and the 14-4 New England Patriots takes place for the championship for the
world of football. The Seahawks won a thriller in Seattle against the Green Bay Packers.
The catch by number 15 Jermaine Kearse sent the Seahawks to the Super Bowl. But on the
other side the Patriots cheated their way to a victory by deflating 11 of their 12 footballs to
help them grip them ball in the cold weather. All this controversy over the deflate gate has
really set aside all the commercials during the game. It’s not a Super Bowl without all
those commercials.
The Seattle Seahawks as I said in the beginning finished their season 14-4. The
first game of the season the Seahawks obliterated the Packers 36-16. Russell Wilson threw
for 191 yards and rushed for 29 yards. During week 13 the Seahawks beat division rivals
the 49ers 19-3. Lets not forget the game against the Packers in the playoffs who the Seahawks came out of overtime with a win 28-22.
Also the New England Patriots have the same record as the Seahawks 14-4. During
the first game of the season the Pats lost 33-20. Tom Brady threw for 249 yards on 29 of
56 attempts.
During week 14 the Patriots played the Dolphins and won 41-13. Brady threw for
287 yards on 21 of 35 attempts. Also, to remember was the blowout win against the Colts
when the Pats won 45-7 but cheated there way to a win by deflating 11 of their 12 footballs. The Super Bowl is probably one of the most watched shows every year in sports. The
Patriots are the winners of this year’s Super Bowl. The Pats won 28-24. The Seahawks had
a chance to score with 39 seconds left in the game but the offensive coordinator called a
pass to Ricardo Lockette instead of handing the ball of to Marshawn Lynch. Malcolm Butler, an undrafted free agent from Alabama State made the outstanding play in the end zone
to end the Seahawks fairy tale year.

8th Grade Night
By Collin Hennenfent and Nate Bigger
Tuesday the 20th the Heat played in their last home
game. The 7th grade lost to A-town who is 20-0. A-Town’s
leading scorer was Graham S. with 17 points. The Heat’s leading scorer was Landon B. with 10 points. The score at the end
of the game was 52-34. The Heat scored more than twice as
many points as the first time these two teams met.
The 8th grade at there last home Middle School game
won 35-28. The Heat’s leading scorer was Dawson L. with 18
points. A-Town’s leading scorer was Jay A. with 7 points. Jay
A. also committed two technical fouls and was ejected from the
game in the 4th quarter. The game got very intense in the second half as both teams battled and the referees had a lack of
calls. The 8th grade team took home the win on 8th grade
night, winning their 4th of their last 6 games.
Last Game of the Season

January 22nd game! The game started at 5:30, it
was a very exciting game. The 7th grade girls were ahead
by 2 points in the second match they had lost the first match
sadly. They were coming back for the win, it was a 23-23
game, the other team scored, it was 23-24. It was an amazing bump, set, spike!!! But the hitter had put a little too much
power into the spike. Now it was 24-24. The team had
bumped it twice and the next bump or spike would win it
...maybe. The ball was about to drop when Brenna dove for
it and Diana had moved to get the ball and the two had hit
heads. The ball did not go over sadly and they had lost the
game.

On January the 22 the West Central boys went to
Colchester to play West Prairie. The Heat’s leading scorer
was Landen B. with 19 points. West Prairie’s leading scorer was Riley W. with 2 points. West Prairie had two of their
starters missing so there was no doubt that we were going
to win. Also, every 7th grader got to play.
The 8th grade also got a win on Thursday 35-32. Luke D.
was the leading scorer with 15 points. West Prairie who
had their 8th grade night lost by 3. Their leading scorer
was Ethan H. with 16 points. During the 1st and 2rd quarters Luke hit a three in each to tie them back up. It was a
great night for WC boys basketball.
8th Grade Regionals
On Saturday January 31, The 8th grade boys faced a
rematch from 8th grade night against A-town. The game was
on A-Town’s home floor, giving them the initial advantage.
The Heat came out flat in the 1st quarter and found themselves in an early deficit of 12-2 after the first quarter. The
Heat won the 2nd quarter 7-4 making the halftime score 169. After halftime A-town’s #20 came out and hit back to
back three pointers and after the 3rd quarter the score was
31-16. The Heat made an effort to come back in the 4th but
came up short losing the game 38-27. The Heat’s leading
scorer was Bradon Annagers with 8 points and the games
leading scorer was 7th grader Struhs from A-town with 15
points. Best of luck to West Central’s 8th grade boys as
they move on to high school basketball.
It was a fast game with amazing volleys between
the two teams. The other team served hard but that was
okay because we are the Heat! Sadly we had lost though.
They had great blocks and we were too scrunched up and
couldn't get to the ball fast enough to pop it back up. We
have great team work, but we just need to help each other
and not get upset when the other team gets a point. We
love seeing kids from the school coming out to watch us
play. It would be amazing if we got a lot of students cheering on the Heat. If you want to come to a game, but don't
know when the next one is just ask one of the volleyball
players and we would be happy to tell you where, when,
and what time the game is.
January 27 7th grade volleyball
game
By Brenna Lillie
The game was a yet again intense game. We
went against Carthage, and they were good. They had
this girl that looked like a teddy bear!!! She was small and
cute. She was a good sever. We are getting better and
better each game, we only had less than 5 drops balls at
the game. The first matches score was 20-25, the second
match was very close! 23-25!! The girls are getting amazing and it gets more and more intense seeing them get to
the floor, pop the ball up, then back to their spot in 3 seconds. The girls had no head bumping either. There were
some great saves! Try to come out and watch these
amazing girls!

Track and Field Is Around The Corner
By Brayden Vancil
Track season is just right around the
corner! It will be fun to you if you like running,
or if you are more upper body strength there is
also shotput and discus. There are also
jumping events, like long jump , where you run
then jump into a pit of sand, and there is also
high jump where you run in a half circle then
jump off of one foot and jump backwards, or
there are a few ways to jump high jump. What I
like about this is that I like to run. There are
many events if you like to run long distance,
you could run the 1600 (mile) or 800 (half
mile). Also, the in between would be a 400
that is a simple 1 lap. Then, there is also short
distance for sprinters, like the 100 and 200.
Also there are relays and field events. The
relays are 4 by 1, 4 by 2 and a 4 by 4. It is a
BLAST! We have great coaches to push us to
do our best! It is amazing going to different
school and interacting with other school and
meeting a lot new people, you could make a
few new friends also. There is sectional that
determines if you go to the big meets also
called STATE! Many of our past athletes have
been to state. Zach Vancil was state champion
in 8th grade 2 years ago in the 400. And Zach,
Chandler Diehl, Brent Nichols and Easton
Bielser were state champions in 4 by 200 relay.
So listen to the announcements and come join
track!!

In Monmouth and Alexis there’s two 3 on 3 tourneys going on. The one that is in
Monmouth is the ICS 3 on 3 tourney. The ICS tournament is on March 7, 2015. It is located at
the Huff Athletic Center located at Monmouth College. The Alexis tourney is at the Alexis
Field House. It is on March 14, 2015. For the ICS and the Alexis tourney, the four quarters are
each three minutes long. They are both for girls and boys. The boys and girls divisions go 3rd4th, 5th-6th, 7th-8th, and high school. Both tournaments will be set up as a three game
guarantee. It’s a double elimination, with a three game guarantee. For example, if your team
lost the first two games then you would be eliminated from the tourney, but would still get
to play one more game. The limit of people on a team is four. To get the instructions on how
to sign up for the Alexis tournament, you can go to facebook, then search Thunder
Fieldhouse 3 on 3 Battle. To get the instructions on how to sign up for the ICS tourney you go

If you’re human you probably like Doritos, and chicken. Your dinner would probably have the chips on the side, but here’s a
Frankenstein way to combine them. This is like shake and bake, but way more delicious.
You will need:
10 Chicken thighs
2 bags of Doritos
1 large plastic bag
Food processor (for small breading sized bits)
DIRECTIONS
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees
Process your Doritos into small breading sized bits
Put Doritos “breading” into a large plastic bag
Put 2 chicken thighs at a time in the bag and shake until every thigh is covered
Put in the oven for 25 minutes and let cool for 5 minutes
In the end you should have a delicious finishing product that looks like this the picture above.
Restaurant Review
Graham’s
Courtesy of Dylan Gibbs
This week, I went to Graham’s in Gladstone, IL 61437 PO Box 13, I ordered 2 bacon cheese burgers with fries. We got a
seat instantly, and our service was very quick. We were served by Flo, and I got my burger in about 6 and a half minutes. The meal
came with a good amount of fries, and 2 appetizing looking bacon burgers. The first bite of the burger was very juicy and filled
with mouth-watering bacon. The fries were fat, and home-style. I usually get a lot of ketchup on my burgers and fries, but that
burger was so filled with flavor that it did not need a drop of it. I paid a $1.50 for each burger, and got the fries for a exceptional
price. I would rate my trip to Graham’s 5 stars out of 5 stars.
Graham’s has daily specials. Monday is $1.50 burger night. Tuesday is chicken lip night. Wednesday is Mexican night. Thursday
was all you can eat chicken night. Friday is open menu.

Ski Safari
Hello, and welcome to the second installment of the App Review. Today, we will be reviewing Ski Safari.
On April 26, 2012, the company Defiant Development released the game Ski Safari on mobile devices. In this game,
you play as a boy named Sven, who is sleeping in a cabin on some snowy mountains. But suddenly, an avalanche occurs and it
carries him out of his cabin, he wakes up and realizes he has to escape the avalanche, so he starts to ski down the mountain.
Your goal is to ski as far as you can without being trapped in the avalanche. While skiing down the mountain, you must avoid
rocks, freezing lakes, caves, and other obstacles. You can rides on animals and vehicles if you run into them. You can upgrade to ride out of you cabin on these things. You can also buy costumes, slopes, and lots of other features. There are interactive missions with the game and when you complete them, you get coins in return. You can also obtain ranks once you reach a
certain level. Ski Safari is available on iOS and Android devices. It scores an 8/10 on the App Scale because it is awesome,
but you can get mad when you get really far and then you fail!
Destiny By: Dermer and BrayBray
If you like intense first person shooters, this game is for you! It is more than
your average shooter game. You have to fight aliens with your bare hands at the start
of the game. Also as you progress farther into the game you can get more weapons.
There is a multiplayer and a campaign mode. There are all 4 of the dlc’s out with new
multiplayer maps to play. You can also fly on a hover bike as your personal vehicles.
You can find vehicles around the maps but not as personal vehicles. You can also
use the alien guns on the campaign and multiplayer. You can upgrade your suit you
use in battle. You can buy better armor to hold off enemy’s fire. So if you like this
game, buy it for your self to try. I would give this game a 8/10.
By: Dermer and Bray Bray
What is your personal choice of the two? We prefer Android I don’t know about you but that’s what we like. Our fellow classmates 16/20 voted apple and 4/20 voted Android not including us. That is art and also newspaper’s votes from them
that are what we got from both classes combined. So the tally says that apple is better than android but really it is just personal
preference, to yourself from what you think not your friends. But that is not the entire school’s vote so that is just between these
two classes. There is a difference in a lot of things in these two devices. For one the first difference there is much more things on
the Google Play store than just the much smaller itunes store. But there is more music on the itunes store. And on the Google
Play store there are many more free things then the itunes store. Usually android phones have a bigger screen than apple. Apple
has sold more devices than android but not by much and Android gets more positive feedback.
