This has been a very worthwhile task to evaluate the school’s performance against the School Excellence Framework and to plan for the future for our wonderful school. Book Fair and Parade We are so proud of the projects that our students completed for Book Week and all the effort put in to the amazing array of costumes our students wore on Friday. How blessed are we to have the wonderful Australian Authors we have. Thank you to our families who supported our Book Fair – Book Week is so much fun! Fred Hollows Award Congratulations to Shyaleigh Forgham who has been awarded the Fred Hollows award for Humanity. The Fred Hollows Humanity Award recognizes Year 6 students who reflect the values Fred lived by in their own lives. Shyaleigh will be attending Parliament House with Mrs Ellery on Monday to receive her award. 2016 John Welling’s Award Samara Morgan and Jessica Alexander’s entries in the “Who Do They Think They Are?” competition have progressed to the next stage of the competition. The girls will find out on Friday evening at Lithgow Library if they are prizewinners! Students were asked to find someone they felt had been a good influence in Lithgow and write about them. Jessica chose the Finn Family – Mr Finn was the first Postmaster at Hartley where Jessica’s family now runs a café. Samara chose David Scott, the founder of IPC, a local company where her grandfather worked for over 30 years. Congratulations girls! ZIG ZAG PUBLIC SCHOOL WWW.ZIGZAG-P.SCHOOLS.NSW.EDU.AU TERM 3– WEEK 6 Conductive Hearing Workshop “If it’s hard to hear, it’s hard to learn!” Helen from Bathurst District Itinerant Support Teachers Team came and visited our K/1 students and talked about the importance of blowing our noses properly to keep our ears healthy. Helen used many different props to illustrate the connection between our nose and our ears and how blowing our nose can help our learning. 1ST SEPTEMBER , 2016 raised over $99 to be donated to the Cancer Council. Andy Griffiths VC Andy Griffiths entertained our 4/5/6 students on Tuesday 23rd August along with 5000 other students in a special Book Week Video Conference. Seven lucky students around Australia were chosen to tell a joke; Coby Massarella was thrilled to be able to tell his joke to Andy: Q. Did you hear that Apple is making a new car? A. They are having trouble installing Windows. 125 Year Celebration Performance We URGENTLY need the notes returned that indicate whether your child will be attending the 125 Year Celebration performance. It is essential that we know which students will be available to attend school on Saturday 17 th September as parts for the performance need to be given to students so that they have time to learn and rehearse. If you have not returned your note please do so ASAP or call the school to advise if your child will be at school on Saturday 17 th September. Legacy Week Legacy Badge week is from 27th August to 3rd September. Badges, wrist bands and pens are available to purchase from the office. Canberra Excursion Year 5 & 6 Canberra excursion is Monday 10 th October to Wednesday 12th October, Week 1 of Term 4. Payments to the excursion can still be made at the office. P&C News Pie Fundraiser P&C Meeting There is a special P&C meeting at 3.00pm Tuesday 13th September to discuss organisation of the 125 Year Celebration. Notes for the Pie Fundraiser have been sent home. Orders and money are due FRIDAY 2ND SEPTEMBER. Father’s Day Stall Father’s Day Stall will be held on Friday 2nd September. All gifts will be $5.00. Students are to bring their money with them on the day. Pies will be delivered Wednesday 7th September after 2.00pm. Daffodil Day Wednesday 31st was Daffodil Day. Students are asked to wear a splash of yellow and make a gold coin donation. Thank you to all of the families that supported we ZIG ZAG PUBLIC SCHOOL Father’s Day Raffle Raffle tickets are due TOMORROW FRIDAY 2 ND SEPTEMBER and the raffle will be drawn tomorrow. Prizes include a Care Pack, Gift Vouchers and Port – something to make any dad’s day!
