Denfeld’s predecessor, Duluth Industrial High School, held its first classes in the fall of 1905 and graduated its first class in the spring of 1909. Hunter Hall of Fame Induction The Hunter Hall of Fame was established in 1996 to honor positive contributions to Denfeld, its traditions and its community. The 20 members of the Denfeld Athletic Hall of Fame, established in 1966, are the original Hunter Hall of Fame members. Denfeld’s Distributive Education Clubs of America chapter launched the Hunter Hall of Fame and established its criteria. Nine new members were added at an induction ceremony on Feb. 16, 1996. The Denfeld Alumni Association took over management in 2004. Since then the association has been working diligently with several key individuals and groups to make this summer’s event possible. On Saturday, Aug. 1, at 2 p.m., ten additional members will be honored and presented with plaques for enriching Denfeld’s unique history. The original 29 members will also be recognized. Admission to the event is free and is open to the community. DHS All-Class Dance The Denfeld Alumni Association will also be hosting an All-Class Dance on the Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009 from 7 to 10:30 p.m. in the Denfeld Gymnasium. The evening will feature music covering several generations, with ample seating for breaks from the dancing action. Denfeld Alumni merchandise as well as refreshments will be available for purchase. Admission to the dance will be accepted in the form of a donation to help cover costs. A donation box will be located at the door. An honored actress Joyce Hadley (Olson), class of 1939, will accept Hall of Fame recognition on behalf of her sister, the late Dorothy Arnold (Olson). Dorothy, a 1935 Denfeld graduate, appeared in 15 feature films between 1937 and 1939 and quickly became a Hollywood star. Joyce was thrilled to have an opportunity to return to Denfeld for such a wonderful occasion. She was excited to know that after all these years the work of her famed sister continues to draw a crowd. Dorothy Arnold (Olson) is one of ten honorees being inducted into the Denfeld Hall of Fame on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009 at 2 p.m. in the Denfeld Auditorium.
