Don’t Forget to Remember Memorial Day
Avoiding cemeteries is a grave mistake
If we fail to remember the price veterans paid,
Memorial Weekend will not include graves.
We'll barbecue, picnic, go hiking and sleep
with eyes closed to those in a box six feet deep.
If we fail to remember we're prone to forget
the men and the women who paid freedom's debt,
those fathers and mothers who answered the call
not knowing their job would mean giving their all.
If we fail to remember the blood that was shed
and pay our respects to those heroes now dead
it's likely we'll lose sight of what we must do
to maintain our rights and our privileges, too.
If we fail to remember we're bound to succeed
in forgetting the task that belongs to those freed.
To honor the memories of those who have died
embracing their values with patriot pride.

Out of the Salt Shaker...
Growing Stronger
W
ow! Easter Sunday
was terrific. We
had a great crowd in both services. So
much preparation went into every
aspect of the morning and God worked
powerfully in song, word, devotions
and food. A special thanks is due to
everyone who had a part in making the
day super.
I am so proud of all of you who
stepped out of your comfort zone to
invite friends and family to join you in
worship. Approximately 50 to 75 folks
were there that would not have come
except because one of you invited
them. Some folks were disappointed
that the people they invited did not
show up. That is to be expected but
don’t be discouraged. They just might
come another time or if you invite
them again, they may respond. As it
says at the end of Revelation:
“The Spirit and the bride say,
“Come!” And let him who hears say,
“Come!” Whoever is thirsty, let him
come; and whoever wishes, let him take
the free gift of the water of life.”
--Revelation 17:17
God calls the church to invite
and welcome everyone to come! This is
a way in which we become more like
God! Keep up the good work—not just
to make NICC grow, but so that
people can find Jesus Christ! Someone
may begin a whole new life just because
of your invitation! Think about that for
a moment!
There are folks like “Phil” and
“Joe” all around us who are struggling
with life. They are in our families.
Some may be our neighbors. We work
with some of them. Their kids go to
school with your kids. And they
desperately need Jesus! When we stand
before the Lord, it will seem like such a
small thing that we invited them and
now they are hearing Jesus say, “Enter
into the joys of Heaven.”
I don’t want to leave this life
without making sure someone is going
to be in heaven because of me! This is
the mission of the Church. This is why
we exist. Please, let’s make what
happened at Easter the norm rather
than the exception!!!

Body Life…
Jerry Lucas Coming to NICC for Father’s
M
ark June 15th on your
calendars as a great
opportunity to invite the men and boys in your life to
hear Jerry Lucas speak in the morning worship hours
and in combined Sunday School. His message for
Father’s Day will be built around “Christian Family
Relationships.” On Sunday evening, he will speak on
“How to Learn” and on Monday evening he will teach
“How to Remember Names and Faces.”
For those who may
not recognize his name, let
me share a few facts about
Jerry Lucas’ life. He is one of
the greatest basketball
players in the history of the
game. He is one of only
three players in history to
win championships in high
school, college, NBA and
Olympics. He was named
one of the Top Fifty players
in NBA history. He was a
three-time Big Ten Player of
the year while leading Ohio State to a National
Championship in 1960.
Lucas represented Team USA in the
1960 Olympic games and helped the team capture the
gold. He led the team in scoring and rebounding and
still holds the Olympic record for field goals with an
astounding 84% shooting. In 1999, Sports Illustrated
named Lucas one the five most outstanding college
players of the 20th Century when he was named to
their Team of the Ages.
During his NBA career, he was a 7-time
All-Pro, was the NBA All-Star Game MVP and is the
only forward in league history to pull down 40
rebounds in a game. In
1973, he was a member
of the New York Knicks
World Championship
team.
But there is
a lot more to Jerry Lucas than just his legendary
basketball career! He graduated from Ohio State at
the top of his class. He has a passion for learning
and is known as “Dr. Memory” for his memory
training and learning systems. He wrote the
Memory Book selling over 3.5 million copies and
was a New York Times Best-Seller.
Even more important than these
impressive accomplishments is his faith! When he
came to Christ during his NBA career, he turned
his entire life over to Jesus. He led his entire family
to Christ over the years. He has also memorized
the entire New Testament.
I am confident that you will be deeply
moved by his testimony, be entertained by his
stories from basketball and be enriched by his
amazing teaching on how to learn and remember.
Please plan to be here on June 15 and bring some
others with you!

The Fresh Start Bookstore is now open! Why
Fresh Start? Because God has made each day a new
day and one that should be glorifying to Him, a fresh
start.
Here is how the Fresh Start Bookstore works.
We purchase books, CDs and other resources at
wholesale prices and sell them for very low prices. We
are not operating this ministry to make a profit or as a
fundraiser. It’s only financial goal is to sustain itself.
Our goal is to offer you these resources at more
affordable prices than you can find most other places
and by doing this, it will allow each of us to grow in
our relationship with Christ.
HOURS:
Sundays 9-10:30 am & immediately after 10:30 service.
It is time to get ready for “Weird Animals” VBS at North
Industry Christian Church. We are asking you to help us
meet our goal of 150+ kids who will grow in their
relationship with God by contacting all the children you
know; your kids, neighbor kids, kids’ friends, nieces,
nephews, grandkids, etc. to join us for this year’s Vacation
Bible School where everything is “weird”.
At Weird Animals, kids will learn about some of God’s
most creative creations! They’ll participate in memorable
Bible-learning activities, sing catchy songs, play teamworkbuilding games, make and dig into yummy treats,
experience cool Bible adventures, and collect Bible
Memory Buddies to remind them they are one of a kind.
Plus, kids will learn to look for evidence of God all around
them through something called God Sightings.
Each day concludes with The Tail End - a celebration that
gets everyone involved in living what they’ve learned.
Family members and friends are encouraged to join in
daily for this special time at 8:00pm.
Kids at Weird Animals VBS will join an international
mission effort to share God’s love by providing water for
school children in India.
The Fresh Start Café has received a makeover! New
tables and chairs are here for you to have a snack and
conversation. Snack counter has been relocated to
make room for our new Welcome Center. All of this
is to provide a more usable and friendly area to greet
everyone who comes to NICC.
Thank you to…
Kenny Herbert (building our new Welcome Center)
Barb Franks (decorating the café & bookstore)
John Doll & Bernie Schneider (building book shelves)
Weird Animals VBS is for preschool kids age 3-5 and
elementary kids from K - 6th grades. The time will run
from 6:20pm - 8:30pm each day.
Please register kids as soon as possible in order to better
help us plan and make VBS an awesome time for them.
Registration online can be done at
www.groupvbspro.com/vbs/ez/NICCkidsOhio or you
can pick up a form on the VBS table at the church. For
further information you can contact the Church Office.
On Sunday, July 27, 2014 the Weird Animal VBS kids will
be invited to be the special music at the 10:30 Church
Service at NICC. Following the church service VBS
children and families can gather for a Family Fun Day
Closing Program and lunch.

Dear Dave,
I’m 23, transitioning jobs, and I make $32,000 a year. I have $11,000 in a 401(k), and about $15,000 in debt.
Should I cash out the 401(k) to pay down my debt?
Cody
Dear Cody,
I don’t think so. When you take money out of a 401(k) they charge you a 10 percent penalty, plus your
tax rate. Your tax rate is about 20 percent, so that means you’re going to take a 30 percent hit. While I love
dumping debt, your idea would be kind of like saying, “I want to borrow $11,000 at 30 percent interest to pay
off my debt.” That doesn’t make a lot of sense, does it?
I never tell folks to cash out a 401(k) or IRA to pay off debt, unless it’s the only way to avoid foreclosure
or bankruptcy. You’re not facing either one of those situations, Cody. So my answer is no.

How do you know there is a

Do you call yourself a child of
God?
How do you know Jesus existed?  Do you consider yourself part of

Every once in awhile I’ll pass by
writing an article and simply ask
questions. I’m not sure if a simple
list of questions is helpful to you or
not, but sometimes one or two that I
write haunt me in a good way.
They get sticky and stay with me
through the day, week, month. One
or two of these queries might
actually help me focus on something
that’s been fuzzy in life. Who
knows? Maybe one of these might
actually create a road of thought
you’ve never traveled down before.
Ok...so lots of times people read
what I write or hear what I say and
wonder, did he know what was
going on in my life (sore toes), but I
don’t have anyone in mind as I write
these things down. LOL :-)

Worship
Blueprint. Blueprint. Blueprint.
I
By Jessica Weber
t’s been on my mind for weeks. Write your Blueprint article! I’ve prayed for some specific inspiration – a
topic that would be interesting and could conjure some thoughtful verbalization on my part.
And…nothing.
It’s ok. I’m not at all upset with God for that. I realize He speaks in the silences. I realize that, though this will
be the first article I’ve written for the Blueprint without a precise theme in mind, there must be one hidden in
the fact that it is.
~~~
Life. Life is funny. My dear sister-in-law and I often look at each other and use that expression with a shoulder
shrug. We use it because we don’t know what else to say. But we deeply understand what each other means…
Life has a way of knocking you over, lifting you up, making you sick to your stomach and elating you to goose
bumps – sometimes all within the same 15 minutes.
It’s hard to keep up with life at times. It’s hard not to notice the pain, fear, loneliness, division, heartbreak,
suffering and the big question marks menacingly looming over the unexplainable.
As followers of Christ, we want to live every moment of our lives spilling over with thankfulness. We want to
honor Him with our joy. We want to never cease to remember that we were bought with a steep price and that
our eternity is secured in the One who willingly took the Cross so we may have life…and have it abundantly
(John 10:10)
But we tend to feel lost in the undefined. What should I write for my Blueprint? Why did she say that when she
knew it would hurt my feelings? How am I going to get all of that accomplished in two hours? Where are my car keys?
Why don’t I fit in here? How can I take away his pain and help him see what I see? How do I know I will see her
again in heaven?
Dear friend, God knows your heart. It’s precious to Him, as well as every need and every question. There isn’t
one buried in your heart He hasn’t heard and cared for. And although you feel like you’re drowning in the
undefined, God’s perspective is much different. God sees a beautiful picture, a timeline of trust defined in the
sacred moment you are embraced in His arms and taken to endless joy. It’s certainly not easy to believe this
when facing the unknown…but faith is faith. It can’t be defined in any other way. Our assurance is not in the
things that are seen. (See Hebrews 11:1 and 2 Corinthians 4:18) But our promise is that the unseen is more
trustworthy than what lies before our very eyes.
For that reason, today is a good day. Life’s not really that bad. And a question mark isn’t so scary.
So, all along, underneath that question mark, I had an article. Who knew?
Women of Grace
Focus…
By Dianne Kendall
Where is my focus? The last 2 months have
been a little more trying for me than usual. I have felt
irritable and down with inner stirrings of what is
wrong? I could not put my finger on it. There is a lot
going on in my family as well with Women of Grace,
not to mention work.
My daughter Angela and her family are in the
process of moving to Michigan. We are praying for a
new job for Andrew, please join us. They have stepped
out in faith to come closer to home. My daughter Julie
and her children will be home with us from the middle
of May until early September. Her husband is cross
training in Texas for 4 months. We are so delighted to
have our family around us!! I should be absolutely
thrilled. So what is bugging me?
A couple of weeks ago I was lying on my bed
and looking out the window. I love to sky gaze.
Anyway, I saw a bright star. This always thrills me
every time. Don’t know why, but it just does. As I
watched this one star it faded behind the clouds and
then I could see it again. It became like a game; “can I
see you ?”, “where did you go?” The thought went
through my head; “God where did you go these last
couple of months?” Then my spirit was quickened and
the thought went through my head; “Where have you
been? Where has your focus been Dianne?”
My focus has been on the details of my
Volume 53 Issue
4
daughters moving closer. My focus has been on
Easter candy, the National Day of Prayer, and the All
Daughter’s Luncheon. My focus has been on my job
and the amount of work that piles up sometimes.
Getting our attic remodeled for all 6 grandchildren
this summer. My focus has not been on God as I have
not been reading the scriptures as much. I have
prayed, but I just have not been reading the Word like
I have in the past.
If God feels like He is fading in and out of
your life like this star did behind the clouds; then
where has your focus been? It is so easy for us to get
off focus of our Lord and focus on some many other
things.
Yes, this star faded in and out, just the way our
lives may fade in and out, however God is still there.
He may be behind the clouds like this star, but the
great thing is that He is still there. He is always there
even when we fade out for awhile.
This month is Mother’s Day. My challenge to
all moms out there is to keep your focus on God. He
is the one that will give us strength. Strength to care
for the little one’s daily needs; strength to run the
upper elementary/ middle school students around;
strength to allow those high school students to pull
away and become young adults; and finally strength
to allow them to come home again.
Keep our Focus on God and He Will See Us through
Each Day and Each Stage,
Happy Mother’s Day & Blessings to All,
Dianne Kendall
