Volker Mornhinweg, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans
Welcome to Mercedes-Benz Vans
We are very proud of this record: with a figure of 321 000, Mercedes-Benz Vans
sold more vehicles in 2015 than ever before. It was also the most successful year
of all time for the Sprinter: in the year of its 20th anniversary, sales rose to a
record-breaking 194 200 units. The Sprinter now operates in more than 130 countries. But we are not going to stop there: the Vito is also developing into a true
“world van”. It is now available in over 65 markets, most recently in Latin America
and the USA too. The V-Class has also been extremely well received by the market:
around 30 700 units were sold worldwide in 2015, an increase of 20 per cent over
the previous year.
All activities fit in with our “Mercedes-Benz Vans goes global” strategy. This year
we are beginning with the construction of our new Sprinter plant in the US city of
Charleston. Investment volume: half a billion US dollars. We are also eagerly
awaiting the launch of our mid-size vans in China. This move means that we will be
producing our vans globally in this segment in Spain, Argentina, the USA and China.
The Citan also contributed to our success last year. Our urban delivery van has
undergone a number of new developments – buzzphrase: Euro 6 introduction.
We will inform you about the further developments regarding the Citan and its
“big brothers” Vito and Sprinter on the occasion of the upcoming IAA Commercial
Vehicles. You can look forward to a whole host of innovations!
Yours, Volker Mornhinweg

Daimler at a Glance
Daimler AG is one of the world’s most successful automotive companies. With its
divisions Mercedes-Benz Cars, Daimler Trucks, Mercedes-Benz Vans, Daimler Buses
and Daimler Financial Services, the Daimler Group is one of the biggest producers
of premium cars and the world’s biggest manufacturer of commercial vehicles with
a global reach. Daimler Financial Services provides financing, leasing, fleet
management, insurance, capital investments and credit cards as well as innovative
mobility services.
The company’s founders, Gottlieb Daimler and Carl Benz, made history with the
invention of the automobile in the year 1886. As a pioneer of automotive
engineering, Daimler continues to shape the future of mobility today: the group’s
focus is on innovative and green technologies as well as on safe and superior
automobiles that have appeal and fascinate. For many years now, Daimler has been
investing continually in the development of alternative drive systems with the goal
of making emission-free driving possible in the long term. So in addition to vehicles
with hybrid drive, Daimler now has the broadest range of locally emission-free
electric vehicles powered by batteries and fuel cells. This is just one example of
how Daimler willingly accepts the challenge of meeting its responsibility towards
society and the environment.
Daimler sells its vehicles and services almost globally and has production facilities
on four continents. In addition to Mercedes-Benz, the world’s most valuable
premium automotive brand, the company’s current portfolio includes the brands
smart, Freightliner, Western Star, BharatBenz, FUSO, Setra, Thomas Built Buses
as well as the brands moovel and car2go. The company is listed on the stock
exchanges of Frankfurt and Stuttgart (stock exchange symbol DAI). In 2015 the
Group sold more than 2.8 million vehicles and employed a workforce of more
than 284 015 people; revenue totalled €149,5 billion and EBIT amounted to
€13.5 billion.

Due to the realignment as part of the Customer Dedication initiative, as of 2014 and 2015 the figures
previously reported for employees in “Vehicle Sales” are now contained in the respective business divisions. Since the end of 2015, this also applies to the Group’s own sales and service centres in Germany
and the global logistics centre in Germersheim, whose employees are now grouped under Mercedes-Benz
Cars, Daimler Trucks, Mercedes-Benz Vans and Daimler Buses. The figures for comparison for 2014 have
been adjusted to reflect these changes.

April 2015 Sprinter clocks up a
million kilometres. It’s a special moment for bus operator Patrik Flinkfeldt
from Lapland: during his trip to the
provincial airport Arvidsjaur his Sprinter
clocks up the possibly record-breaking
mileage of one million kilometres. “The
Sprinter has never once let us down. If
you look after your vehicle properly,
such a high mileage figure is no problem,” he says. The milestone vehicle is
a Sprinter 518 CDI with a bus body for
up to 16 passengers. The bus, which
has been almost permanently in service, clocked up its one million kilometres in five years and eleven months.

Happy Birthday, new V-Class. One
year after its market launch the new
V-Class has already been delivered to
more than 20 000 customers and has
thus surpassed expectations by far. Volker
Mornhinweg, Head of Mercedes-Benz
Vans: “We are proud of this success. The
V-Class has redefined the MPV segment.”

4 000 000th van from Düsseldorf.
Vans have been produced at the plant
in Düsseldorf since 1962. Today, the
location with its 6 500 employees is the
main international factory for the global
bestseller Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. The
fact that the milestone “4 000 000th
van” is celebrated here is proof of this
success. Daimler is currently investing
approximately 300 million euros in the
plant in the framework of the coming
Sprinter generation.
July 2015 Even more safety for
Mercedes-Benz Vans. How can the
safety of Mercedes-Benz vehicles be
further improved? This is the key
question at the Daimler event “Shaping
Future Transportation – Campus
Safety” in Berlin. A total of 15 Citan,
Vito and Sprinter vans demonstrate
how impressive the current safety
technology already is. The Sprinter is
a trailblazer in terms of safety, with
Crosswind Assist, Collision Prevent
Assist, Blind Spot Assist, Highbeam
Assist and Lane Keeping Assist. All
these systems help prevent accidents
and bring Daimler another step further
towards achieving its vision of accidentfree driving. The Vito also boasts
numerous safety features such as the
preventive occupant protection system
PRE-SAFE. It can detect critical driving
situations in advance and initiate
measures such as a reversible tensioning of the safety belts and the closing
of open windows.

2015 has been hugely successful for
the plant in Brandenburg. By the end
of the year well over 50 000 vans rolled

annual production therefore markedly
exceeds the previous year’s level of
48 200. At the same time Daimler’s
van division doubles its investments in
the Ludwigsfelde plant to around
25 million euros. A substantial share
goes into preparing production for the

January 2016 Mercedes-Benz sells
more vans than ever before. Based
on initial data, Daimler’s van division
sold around 321 000 vehicles worldwide last year and increased sales by
9 per cent to a new record figure. One
key factor is the rising number of fleet
orders in strategic growth markets,
both within and outside Europe. The
most recent example: the order from
Sixt for 200 Sprinter and 500 Metris
models for the American market.
