We just finished our season with a record of 128. Having played in the Elkhorn Valley Conference we played ten regular season games and then three non conference games. On July 5th we had the first round of our conference tournament and traveled to Hartington. We came away victorious 9-0. Then on July 7th we made the trip to Creighton for the second round and gathered a 12-3 win, which put us in the championship game at O’Neill against O’Neill. On July 9th we become conference champs by defeating O’Neill 17-11. The following week we began our area district tournament which was held in Ainsworth and was a double elimination format. On Thursday night we stared off the tournament against Bloomfield. We trailed most of the game but came back from a early 8-2 deficit to win 9-8. The win left us playing the following night against Crofton. On this night Crofton came away the better team. This loss had us playing the next day against Neligh. We controlled this game from the start and ended up winning 16-6. Then on Sunday afternoon we had Valentine in the heat of the day. It was a rough game for us and we ended up acquiring our second loss to end our season. It was a fun year with lots of fun road trips and its nice to see kids form three different towns coming together to form a team and a friendship. Archaeology Meeting In Cairo, Nebraska The Nebraska Archaeological Society (NAS) will hold a quarterly meeting on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 1:30 PM at the Cairo Historical Roots Museum, Cairo, Nebraska. The museum is located at 305 Said Street, in Cairo. All meetings of the NAS are open to the general public and everyone interested in archaeology is encouraged to attend. This is a great opportunity to bring in that ―arrowhead‖ you found this summer or ―the what is it?‖ found down by the creek, for possible identification by members of the society. At the conclusion of a brief business meeting, those wishing to have a tour of the museum and view their collections may do so. Display cases contain artifacts connected to the Pawnee Nation, pioneers, military, natural history, and mementos from local citizens dating from mid-1800’s until the present. The Cairo Museum is usually open Saturday mornings from 9 AM to noon. The volunteer museum staff will be pleased to work with you. And the Nebraska Archaeological Society extends a special thank you to the museum for hosting this interesting and educational meeting. For more information on the Cairo museum, please call Mr. Walt Sorensen at 308-3809024. The NAS has members from all areas of Nebraska and several surrounding states and welcomes all interested persons to attend this meeting and program. The society endeavors to develop and maintain a better understanding among students and collectors of archaeological material, and professional archaeologists, as well as museums and institutions of learning. More information on the Nebraska Archaeological Society can be found on their web site: http:// web.nas.googlepages.com/ The Nebraska Archaeological Society is a member of the Central States Archaeological Society and further information is available at their web site: http://www.csasi.org/ index.htm For more information, please contact Jerry & Nancy Carlson at [email protected] (402-993-6055) or Kevin Hammond at [email protected].
