Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters is located near downtown Norfolk.
From Interstate 64, take I-264 West Exit to Downtown Norfolk and look for the
Children’s Hospital direction sign just before Exit 11-B (Brambleton Ave). Take
11-B and travel west on Brambleton two miles to Colley Avenue; turn right on
Colley, left at Fairfax Avenue, then right at Wagner Road. Visitor parking is on
the left. CHKD is on the corner of Children’s Lane and Olney. Limited parking is
available. The fee for all-day parking is $8.

Paramjit Toor Joshi, MD
Paramjit T. Joshi, MD, is the Distinguished Endowed Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychiatry
and Behavioral Sciences at Children’s National Medical Center and Professor of Psychiatry, Behavioral
Sciences & Pediatrics at George Washington University School of Medicine since September 1999. After
graduating from Christian Medical College in Ludhiana, India, she first trained and practiced as a pediatrician. After moving to the United States, she completed her training in general and child and adolescent psychiatry at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where she remained on the faculty
for over two decades.
She is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and the American
Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) and inducted into the American College of
Psychiatrists (ACP). She has held several national offices at the AACAP, SPCAP and the ABPN – notably
President of the Society of Professors of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (SPCAP) (2006-2008), President
of AACAP (2013-2015) and currently a director on the board of the American Board of Psychiatry
& Neurology (ABPN) (2013-2020).
Dr. Joshi is the recipient of several awards - notably the APA’s Bruno Lima award for outstanding contributions in the care and understanding of disaster psychiatry; the Special Presidential Commendation
Award by the APA in recognition of her commitment to quality clinical care, training and research in
Child Psychiatry (2013); the (2014) Agnes Purcell McGavin award for a distinguished career in child and
adolescent psychiatry by the APA; and the 2015 IAPA’s (Indo-American Psychiatric Association)
Academician award. She has taught and published extensively on the issues of depression, bipolar
disorder, global mental health and childhood trauma.
