Catholic School Week: What is National Catholic Schools Week? National Catholic Schools
Week is the annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. It starts the last Sunday in January and runs all week, which in 2016 is January 31 - February 6. The theme for the
National Catholic Schools Week 2016 is “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith,
Knowledge and Service.” Schools typically observe the annual celebration week with Masses,
open houses and other activities for students, families, parishioners and community members.
Through these events, schools focus on the value Catholic education provides to young people
and its contributions to our church, our communities and our nation. This Wednesday at 9:30
am Bishop John Quinn will celebrate the Mass in our parish to celebrate the importance of
Catholic Education in our town. Everyone is invited.
The church teaches that “Parents are the first educators of their children as a God-given responsibility. They are the
first to introduce the faith to their children. Parents exercise this fundamental responsibility with the aid and support of
both the Church and civil community. Both have a vested interest and responsibility in education of the young. Parents
possess the fundamental right to choose the formative tools that support their convictions and fulfill their duty as the
first educators.”
What is the purpose of a Catholic education?” the purpose of catholic education is to model men and women into the
image of Christ who came to bring light to those in darkness. By receiving a solid education a person can transmit to
others, Christian values such as: justice, honesty, kindness, loyalty and faith. The catholic identity identify a person as
a light in the world. More than even today, we need our young people to take the standard of our faith to all parts of
our society, that is why our duty is to support a good catholic education and find all the possible means that our faith
may be transmitted to our young people intact and without disruption.
February 2nd is the Feast of the Presentation of the Child Jesus in the Temple. At that time the old man Simeon
spoke of Jesus as being the Light of the Gentiles. From this comes the tradition of blessings candles on this feast day –
candles (and oil) being the primary source of artificial light before electricity. We will bless candles at the 7-AM
Mass, and they will be available for your home use during the next several days. Two candles per family, please; and
an offering of $2 per candle will help defray the parish’s cost of them. Blessed candles are often burned during storms
or other times of danger to remind us that Jesus, the Light of the world, is with us, and that we are protected by his Divine Providence and Love.
Saint Blaise, also known as Saint Blase, was a physician, and Bishop of Sebastea in Historical Armenia. According
to the Acta Sanctorum, he was martyred by being beaten, attacked with iron combs, and beheaded. He is the patron
saint of those who have throat problems. The tradition has it that as the hunters hauled Blaise off to prison, a mother
came with her young son who had a fish bone lodged in his throat. At Blaise’s command the child was able to cough
up the bone.

Come join our group as we pray daily during lent. Each participant commits to spend
some time each day in prayer and then to meet Saturdays to share the past week’s grace. The
daily prayer meditations are based on daily scripture and the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. It is an opportunity to pause, reflect, listen and respond to the voice of God as
God speaks to your heart.
The kick-off meeting is on Saturday, February 6th, 10:15AM Xavier Hall, the Upper
Room – SSPP Parish, Mankato. The final session is on Saturday, April 2nd. If you would

họ nói: "Người này không phải là con ông Giuse sao?"
Và Người nói với họ: "Hẳn các ngươi sắp nói cho Ta nghe câu ngạn ngữ này: 'Hỡi thầy thuốc, hãy chữa lấy
chính mình!' Điều chúng tôi nghe xảy ra ở Capharnaum, ông hãy làm như vậy tại quê hương ông'". Người nói tiếp:

who Pilgrimaged to witness to life Jan 22nd at state
and national pro-life marches! We had youth from 4
area high schools represented!
Although the Washington D.C. group
had some obstacles to overcome
with the weather, we are so thankful
for all of your prayers sent, for Fr.
Mariano’s travelers blessing he gave
before our departure, and for the
wisdom of our Diocesan Youth Ministry leader- Ben
Frost in guiding us throughout the pilgrimage and
getting us home safely before the roads were
blocked! In our short time in D.C. we attended some
amazing events with 1000’s of other youth from
across the nation, and returned with a renewed
hope in the power and Grace of God!

EL GRAN HIMNO AL AMOR
Cabe dudar que, cuando san Pablo se sentó a escribir
lo que ahora conocemos como el capítulo trece de la primera carta a los corintios, supiera que lo que estaba escribiendo se convertiría en una clave principal de la ética
cristiana. En este breve pasaje, ha consignado ideales
sobre el amor que se han mantenido firmes en el transcurso de los siglos. A veces pensamos que porque estos
son sólo ideales a los que uno aspira, estamos libres de
no practicarlos en nuestra vida diaria.
Lo que Pablo estaba escribiendo era una carta a sus
amigos, dándoles buenos consejos sobre lo que significaba –y todavía significa– vivir en el amor, día a día, en
seguimiento de Cristo. Encontramos en las palabras a sus
amigos una ampliación del gran mandamiento de Jesús
de amar a Dios y al prójimo. Hoy en día escuchamos
cómo este amor debe expresarse en nuestras acciones, y
cómo debe regir nuestras relaciones con los demás.
