Lets Create a Video CD !
IMxVCD is authoring software for creating Video CD in slideshow form.
Contents such as movie, still picture, and sound, can be in Video CD. By adding a folder with file contents, a slideshow buttons will be
created on the main menu and will be displayed during the playback of the Video CD. You can setup the contents, the slideshow
button and the background of the main menu, etc.
Slideshow numbers are allocated to each slideshow button and the selected number corresponds to the remote control device for
playback. For example, to playback a slideshow, press [1] on the remote control device (This operation may change according to the
play device).
Also, even when there is no environment to playback Video CD, You can create the Album CD which can be viewed with any
standard web browser installed in the personal computer.
Now, lets follow the steps and create a Video CD (Basically, CD album can be created using the same procedure as Video CD!)
Important
Please read this operation warning.
For Macintosh users, you cannot create the Video CD. It can create the Video CD image corresponding to the currently supported
Toast of ROXIO Corporation.

Adding folder
Run the IMxVCD application, and select a folder to insert contents of the Video CD. The content folder
becomes the slideshow button of the main menu which will be displayed during the Video CD
playback.
Designing the main menu
Select background, BGM, etc to the main menu in the layout environment for the fist screen of
playback.
Setting the Slideshow
You can use this setup to change the playback order of the Video CD content.
Preview
Preview the slideshow and check authoring result.
Writing
Video CD or Video CD image is created from the contents that were authored.

Adding folder(s) (1)
There are two methods of adding folders:
By adding folders continuously, they will appear on the main menu as slideshow buttons. You can add
slideshow buttons until the used space bar becomes full. A maximum of 6 buttons can be displayed in
one main menu.
Important
You cannot add more folders when the number of movie contents is above 97; or the number of project
folders is above 900 in one project. Also, a folder cannot be added when the number of contents in the
folder contains more than 9,999.

1. From the FinePixViewer,
select a folder which contains contents and
click the "Start IMxVCD" button.

2. When you start IMxVCD, the start menu will appear. Then click the "Video CD" button.
3. The folder selected at step 1 will be added to the main menu as a slideshow button.
Important
When there are folders in which contents are contained in a folder, all of the folders will automatically be added. If you do
not want to add all the folders, click the "Cancel" button on the dialog box.
Note
To add several folders, repeat step 1 and step 3.

Add folder from the desktop
1. Add folder from the desktop.
Windows Users:
From the Windows Start menu, point to Program - PIXELA - ImageMixer VCD, and select "ImageMixer VCD for
FinePix".
Macintosh Users:
Double click the "ImageMixer VCD for FinePix" icon found within the "ImageMixer" folder installed in your hard disc.
2. The start menu will appear and then click the "Video CD" button.
3. The layout environment will appear.
Drag and drop the folder which contains contents directly into the main menu.
The folder you've just added to the main menu will be shown as a slideshow button.
To add several folders, repeat step 3.
Important
When there are folders in which contents are contained in a folder, all of the folders will automatically be added. If you do
not want to add all the folders, click the "Cancel" button on the dialog box.
Note
For Windows users, folders can also be added using windows explorer or the dialog by clicking the "Add contents/folder"
button on the main menu.
You can perform the same operation by clicking the "Add contents/folder" button in the main menu and select a folder from
the dialog box.

Preferences
1. Click the "Preferences" button on the navigation bar to open the preferences dialog box.
2. For Windows users,
click the "Browse" button and
setup the work folder.
For Macintosh users, select a work disk.
3. Choosing a Video/TV format for your Video CD.

4. Select the amount of disc space to be used for creating Video CD.

You can setup preferences whenever you need by clicking the "Preference" button.

Selecting the style
Applying style to your main menu
1. Click the "Style" tag to display the style pannel.
2. Select a category from the style category pull down menu to display the style templates.
3. Click on a template of your choice.
The selected template will be applied to the main menu.
Note
The position of buttons change depending on the number of slideshow buttons or the style you choose.
Setting the background of your main menu
1. Click the "Style" tag to display the style pannel.
2. Follow the steps below to select a still image for the background.
Important
Only still image can be applied to the background.
By selecting from the dialog box:
Click the "Apply background image" button to open the dialog box,
click the "Open" button.
and select a still image file,

By drag and drop method:
Drag an icon of the still image file you want to use from the desktop directly to the "Apply background image" button.
Note
Windows users, a background image can be applied by drag and drop using the Windows explorer.
Use the same proceedure as applying the background image to apply sound (BGM) by clicking the "Apply BGM"
button.

and click the "Text" tag to display the text pannel.

Go to Album environment
Each slideshow buttons are organized in the album. And the contents are handled within the album.
By double click
Double click a slideshow button in the main menu to go to the album environment.
By the button on the navigation bar
Select a slideshow button, and click the "Album environment" button on the navigation bar to go to album environment.

Change playback order
Changing the playback order
Single content
Drag a thumbnail.
A number of contents (next to each other)
Click the first thumbnail,
and press and hold the [Shift] key
and you click the last thumbnail.
A number of contents (scattered)
For Windows users, press and hold the [Ctrl] key , and for Machintosh users, press and hold the [Command] key and click all
scattered thumbnails then drag all.
Sorting contents in order
Select a sort type from the sort pull down menu. The contents will be sorted in accesding order according to your selected sort
type.
Important
You cannot undo sort result.

General settings
Adding date
By putting a check mark on the Date, date will be added to the still image contents.
Important
Only effective for still images.
No matter how you setup, clip number will always appear.
Applying BGM to the slideshows
You can insert the BGM while playing a slideshow. This can be set for each slideshow buttons.
However, you can only set the BGM when there are only still image contents. For playing movies and other sound materials,
the inserted BGM will be temporarily stopped during this time. For example, if your slideshow contains image A > movie B >
and image C, the inserted BGM will play while still image contents (A&C) are playing. And the BGM will be paused while B
is playing.

Content settings
Changing the name of contents
1.
Select a thumbnail from the thumbnail list window.
2.
Change the name of content in the text box in the text pannel.
Important
The name of content has the same name as the added file name. If you rename the content name, the file name will
differ from the content name.
Excluding specific content(s) from writing

Select a thumbnail from the thumbnail list window.
Put a check mark on "Do not use" in the content settings pannel.
An [/] sign will appear on the thumbnail.
Important
Contents with "Do not use" marked will not be included in the Video CD.

Select a thumbnail you wish to apply from the thumbnail list window.
2.
Put a check mark on "Set as thumbnail".
The selected thumbnail will be applied to the thumbnail of the slideshow buttons.

Preview
Start the slideshow and preview authoring result.
To preview,
click the "Writing environment" button on the navigation bar and
then click the "Preview" tag.
The slideshow number and the number on the control button in the preview panel correspond acting as a remote control device.
Example, if you click button No.1, in the preview panel, the slideshow No. 1 will start. And if you click button No.3 on the
preview panel, the slideshow No.3 will start.
Note
Still image contents will appear for 4 seconds and go to next content when playing a slideshow.
If there are several main menus exist,
"Next" and
"Previous" buttons will appear on the lower right side. By clicking
these buttons will let you switch between several main menus.

Writing
Create Video CD or Video CD image.
Important
Please read this operation warning:

1. Click the "Writing setup" tag to display the pannel.
2.
Type the title and comment of the HTML page that will be recorded in the Album CD which will be added in the
Video CD. The title should be the maximum of 15 characters, and the comment a maximum of 138 characters.

For Macintosh users, there is no function of creating a Video CD in this application. This application creates a Video CD image
corresponding to the Toast of ROXIO corporation currently supported.

Introduction
Before start
IMxVCD is an authoring software used to create standard Video CD as stated below. Video
CD (Video Compact Disc) is a disc containing VCR quality (MPEG1) movie/slideshow with
sound. One CD-R disc can record the maximum capacity of 74 minutes (approx.) playback
length. Video CD compatible players like personal computers, game machines, DVD players,
etc. can be used as Video CD player.

Video CD standard with IMxVCD.
Video CD or Video CD image created by IMxVCD are made based on
Video CD Ver2.0 standard. The playback control function features that using
the playback control function to change playback order or to play still image
contents from the menu. Video CD corresponds to two standards of TV
signal format called NTSC and PAL. The image bit rate is setup at
1.15Mbps, resolution for NTSC is 352x288 pixels (30fps) and the resolution
for PAL is 352x240 pixels (25fps). Sound format is MPEG-1 (Layer-2)
224kbps (stereo 1ch or monophonic 2ch) .

Creating Video CD image conventionally and writing with CD writing
software has been the most common method to create Video CD. However,
with this IMxVCD, you can write directly to the storage device such as CDR drive at the authoring stage without using any writing software.

With this IMxVCD you can create your own CD album. CD album is a browser album which
can be viewed by any web browser installed in a standard personal computer. Even if you
have no playback environment for Video CD, you can view it with an installed web browser
in your computer. So there is not need to worry about the environment of your friends that
you're handing it out. Moreover, as a feature of IMxVCD, you can also incorporate CD album
to the Video CD created as stated above. Therefore, you can playback both way depending on
your environment.

Please confirm that your storage device (drive) operates correctly before creating a
disk with IMxVCD.
In order to create a disk, you need to meet the requirements recommended by your
storage device (drive) manufacturer. Also, make sure to observe warning and

Please confirm that software, driver, etc. which affect the disc writing are not
installed in your computer.
In order to create a Video CD, a separate CD-R drive is required.
The drives listed have been passed our evaluation test. We do not guarantee other
drives not on this list for the operation of CD writing.
Some players are not compatible with Video CD playback which is created by the
CD-R drive.
For Windows users, we recommend that you have the DMA transfer mode of your
hard disk turned ON.
Screen savers, System agents and other software that uses the timer to run application
may affect disc writing process. No other applications other than IMxVCD should be
running at the time of disc writing.
Please confirm that your hard disk has enough memory. When memory is extremely
low, this could affect the disc writting process.
Using a damaged disc with scratch or dust will not complete disc writing process
properly.

This is a read only digital media with recorded high quality image and sound.
The images are generally recorded in MPEG-2 format and can be played using any DVD
player.
MPEG:
MPEG is the abbreviation for “Moving Picture Experts Group”, and is the International
Standard for information compression system to digital image and high-fi audio. MPEG-1
quality averages that of a VHS tape, such as those used for playback of VideoCD. Compared
to DV (digital video) form, MPEG has the feature of prolonging recording time while
maintaining a smaller file size and is becoming the standard form of operation in the Internet
MPEG-2 maintains a high quality image and are used for DVD, digital satellite broadcasting,
etc.

This is one of the CD format for recording images and sounds on the CD media.
It is the compressed video data recorded as MPEG-1, with resolution of 352x240 pixels. The
number of frames per second is 24 or 29.97 frames. Same as an audio CD, about 74 minutes
of data (audio + sound) can be recorded in one CD. The audio format is MPEG-1 Layer2.
Video CD and Video CD Image created by IMxVCD, like DVD Video, support playback
control. It can be played using any Video CD player or a DVD player which supports Video
CD.
Authoring:
The process of creating the video disc and the album disc is called authoring. Setting up menu
composition, contents, navigation, etc.

The miniature image of the content or a template is called thumbnail. You can distinguish
between the files at a glance.

Slideshow:
Like a slide, it plays the contents continuously. In IMxVCD, you can create slideshow form
of a video disc or an album disc.
Slideshow button:
t is a button for playing slideshow. It is created when a folder is added to the main menu in
the layout environment.
The slideshow number in the Video CD mode corresponds with the remote control of the
playing device. Press a number button on the remote control of the device to play Video CD.
For DVD Video, and press the direction button.
Album Disc:
This is a term used to refer to CD Album and DVD Album in IMxVCD.
Disc image, Video CD image:
When a file composition is made into one image, it is called a disc image. A Video CD is
when a file composition is made into one image in the Video CD Ver2.0 standard.
Video Disc:
This is a term used to refer to Video CD and DVD Video in IMxVCD. It can be simply called
a disc.
Video/TV Format:

The work currently working (authoring) is called a “Project”. IMxVCD lets you save your
project even before completing the entire process. Next time just open the project you’ve

Main menu:
The screen you are editing in the layout environment is called Main menu that will be the
menu screen of the Video CD. You can edit this main menu in the Layout environment. You
can create more than one main menu; one main menu only can hold 6 slideshow buttons.
Slideshow number:
These are the numbers that are displayed on the slideshow buttons in the main menu. These
numbers correspond to the number buttons on the remote control of your playing device.
For example, when you press No. 1 on your remote control, the slideshow No.1 on the main
menu will start to play. And if you press the No.3 button, slideshow No.3 will start to play.

Click a button to open the dialog box where you can select a folder with contents. When there
are folders in which contents are contained in a folder, all of the folders will automatically be
added. The added folder will be displayed as a slideshow button.
Important
You can continue adding folders until the used space bar becomes full. You cannot add more
folders when the number of movie contents is above 97; or the number of project folders is
above 900 in one project. Also, a folder cannot be added when the number of contents in the
folder contains more than 9,999.
Panel:
There are 3 panels, style, slideshow button and title.
Used space:
It displays the space capacity of the disc being used. The level increases as more folders are
added to the project. The left side of the bar shows the used video disc space while the right
side shows the used album disc space.
Important
Contents cannot be added when either one of bars get full.
Help window:
Move the mouse pointer over botton or tag to display the explanation on the botton of
window.

The name of the folder added to the main menu will automatically be the title of the content.
However, editing the name in the text box will let you change the title of content. Even you
edit the content title, the original file name does not change. The maximum characters are 63
letters.
Do not use:
Put a check mark to exclude the selected thumbnail content from writing to disc. If you
enable this setting, [/] mark will appear on the thumbnail of the selected content.
Note
You can also set multiple thumbnails at once.
Set as thumbnail:
Put a check mark if you wish to use the image of the thumbnail as the thumbnail of slideshow
button.

Add operation guide:
Put a check mark if you wish to have the operation guide of remote control for VCD Video
playback to be played just before the slideshow playback.
Write speed:
You can select the writing speed from the pull down menu. Example, "2x" means double
speed and "4x" means 4 times the original speed.
Important
If you are using a slow speed writing device such as USB connection, setting the write speed
too high may fail from writing successfully. Please refer to the device manufacture manual
and set as it recommends.

Switching thumbnails
You can switch between thumbnails by pressing the
buttons.

There are two ways to sort/change thumbnail order as below:

Manually drag and drop your selected thumbnail to change order.

Disc name:
Type in the name of the CD Album you are going to create. The letters you can use are as
follows: one bite capital letter of numbers 1 - 9, alphabet A - Z, underbar "_", a maximum of
30 characters.

Output Album folder:
Put a check mark if you wish not to write directly to disc and instead only to create an Album
folder. Click the "Browse" button and choose the destination folder for storage location. You
can also put a check mark on "Create Album CD" to create Album CD while outputting an
Album folder.
Create Album CD:
Put a check mark if you wish to write directly to disc as an Album CD. You can also put a
check mark on "Output Album folder" to output Album folder while creating an Album CD.

Write speed:
You can select the writing speed from the pull down menu. Example, "2x" means double
speed and "4x" means 4 times the original speed. This setting is only effective when the
"Create Album CD" is selected.

Important
If you are using a slow speed writing device such as USB connection, setting the write speed
too high may fail from writing successfully. Please refer to the device manufacture manual
and set as it recommends.

In Macintosh, projects are saved as Album folders.
When you click the "Output" button in the Add/Writer environment, a dialog box appears
where you can to select a saving directory.
Select a folder where you want to save the Album folders and
click the "Select"
button.
Important
You can create an Album CD using the Album folder you have created by using any
commercial CD writing software.
