After bit work in a couple of B-films, he got his big break on the long-running TV series Rawhide. He then moved on to bigger and better things with roles in several westerns. As we age, we have a greater chance of falling. So what you do with your body on a daily basis is crucial for fall prevention. For optimal health, you need a variety of exercises to improve your balance. Strength training, aerobic exercise, core exercises, tai chi, and specific balance exercises all work together for improving your balance. You can use the fitness center, utilize the pool, attend exercise classes, or get personal training. Personal training can be beneficial for someone who just needs a little one on one attention to reach specific goals. We can do personal training in the pool, on land, or if need be – in your apartment. Sometimes you need the accountability, attention, and social time, just as much as the exercise itself! I want to encourage you to accept where you are physically. This can be hard to do! You may have an injury, have an illness, or too much going on in your life. You have to set realistic goals, then move forward. Sometimes we get stuck where we are. We don’t change because we’ve developed some bad habits, and it’s easier to just stay put. But how does this help you reach your goals? The first step is the hardest! Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you. Wellness is the whole person and not just one small piece. I would like to see more of you being active, and making the most of what you are today. Blessings – Katie Eddins 1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. Ongoing Clinic Services Dr. Chandini Sharma Tuesday Mornings For appointments call Charly (918) 491-5218 Blood Draw Wednesdays, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Must have doctor’s order. See Charly for details. Audiologist The first and third Tuesday of each month. Call Airyn Cristiano, Audiologist, (918) 749-7711 for an appointment. Spice of the Month: Cinnamon As the weather cools down, it’s easy to add more cinnamon to your diet. Several studies have found that cinnamon has properties that help control blood sugar. Researchers believe that it can slow the rate at which the stomach empties after meals, reducing the rise in blood sugar after eating. Cinnamon can also benefit your brain. Researchers say that chewing cinnamon flavored gum or even just smelling cinnamon can help boost brain function. In one study, the scent of cinnamon improved participants’ scores on tasks related to memory and visual memory speed. This warming spice is great sprinkled in cold weather favorites like hot tea or cocoa. However, its a versatile spice that can be added to lots of foods. Try it on sweet potatoes or your toast in the morning. It also adds a unique flavor to curries and bean dishes. Ask your server for the spice rack to start adding cinnamon to your favorite foods. Quiz: Like cinnamon, next month’s spice is frequently used in holiday desserts. It can be found fresh, ground, pickled and candied, and is prized for its ability to help an upset stomach. Can you guess what it is? Answer on opposite page. 15
