CAC396-0116 St. Charles Hospital Family Education Classes “Steps to Parenthood” Registration by Phone is Required Call (631) 474-3700 Credit Card Payment Required Upon Registration Lamaze When: Weekends or Evenings (call for schedule) Who: Expectant Parents (mother and coach) Cost:1, 2 or 3 sessions — $125 / Refresher $105 Sign up by end of 2nd to early 3rd trimester. Childbirth preparation using the Lamaze method. Taught by registered nurse, certified childbirth educators. Classes include a tour of the maternity unit including labor and delivery rooms, postpartum, nursery and high-risk neonatal unit. Should you ever need to cancel your class, please call as soon as possible to avoid forfeit of your fee and to allow others to be scheduled in your place. Family CPR When: One Saturday per month — 10am to 1pm (Weekday evening class soon to be announced) Who: Expectant Parents and Anyone Caring for Baby Cost: $35 per person A must for every parent, grandparent, baby sitter! Taught by registered nurse / certified CPR instructors. American Heart Association “Family & Friends” course covers basic infant, child and adult CPR, rescue breathing, choking. This is an entry-level class, not intended for healthcare professionals. Book is included in fee. Completion card issued. C-Section When: One class per month, day and time varies, call for schedule Who: Expectant Parents Cost: Two Hour Class — $25 per couple Art of Breastfeeding When: One Wednesday evening per month 7pm to 9:00pm Who: Expectant Parents Cost: Two Hour Class — $25 A comprehensive course based on best practice on the “art of breastfeeding”, taught by an internationally board certified lactation consultant. The class provides valuable hints to assure a successful and gratifying breastfeeding experience. Partners are encouraged to attend. Maternity Unit Tours When: T wo Tuesday evenings per month — 8:15pm Call for dates. *Note: Tour also included with Lamaze and C-Section classes. Who: Expectant Parents (Sorry NO CHILDREN… see Sibling Class listing for children’s tour) Cost: Adult Tour — FREE Group tour of the beautiful St. Charles Maternity Pavilion. Includes labor and delivery rooms, postpartum, nursery and unique high risk neonatal unit. (Please check your other classes to see if a tour is already included.) Tour takes approximately 45 minutes. Highly recommended for ALL expectant parents…not just for those with scheduled c-section. Class helps to prepare you for scheduled or unplanned cesarean delivery. Topics include indications for C-Section, coaches’ role, anesthesia options, pain management and recovery. Newborn Parenting 101 When: One Tuesday per month New! 6:30pm to 9:30pm Car Seat Safe Who: Expectant Parents Instructio ty ns Cost: Three Hour Class — $30 This comprehensive new class covers everything you need to care for mom and baby after delivery. Topics include – what to expect during your hospital stay; postpartum care, signs and symptoms of postpartum depression; newborn appearance and senses, keeping baby safe during your hospital stay; preventing SIDS and shaken baby syndrome; “tummy time”; basic baby safety and car seat safety; bathing, umbilical cord and circumcision care; techniques for breastfeeding, bottle feeding and burping; also includes hands-on instruction with diapering and swaddling. Daddy Boot Camp When: Various weekday evenings or weekends (call for dates) Who: For Men Only ... dads-to-be, new dads, grandfathers Cost: Two Hour Class — $20 per person “Survival Training” includes: “Where Do I Start”, understanding the new Mom, icky topics (diapers, spit-up, etc.), baby’s environment, sleeping/feeding, emergencies, visitors/relatives/helpers, date night, planning for the future, enjoying your baby and much more. Provides a forum for men to address and explore questions and concerns. Male instructor is a registered nurse and is father to a toddler. Refreshments provided.
