RENT THE PARVIS FOR YOUR PUBLIC EVENTS
Did you know that you can rent the Parvis whether it’s for an artistic
performance, a book or album launch, a dinner lecture, or even a
business meeting?
We have the equipment necessary to offer you several configurations:
175 seated places, 140 seats in a bistro setting, or 120 seats in a
banquet setting. You’ll also have access to our stage, plus technical
equipment (microphones and sound system, lighting, projector, and
big screen), and a qualified technician to handle your event’s stage
management, if needed. We can also provide you with access to the
dressing room, ticket office, cloakroom, and kitchen, and offer our
bar service. Contact us for a fast and free rental cost quote!
Please note: Rental service is not offered for holding private
events organized by individuals such as weddings, funerals, private
parties, or other events.
Borough Services
The Parvis is the artistic and cultural hub of the Borough of Fleurimont.
It fulfills three main functions: it is a place to create, present, and
teach arts and culture. Simply put, the Parvis seeks to provide
artists of all disciplines with a venue where they can wet their feet,
exhibit their skills, and test their material. It offers a varied and
affordable program that highlights the works of local artists to help
them share their talent in their community.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH COMMITTEE
SERVICES
This prevention program, developed through a partnership
between the police department and your Borough, helps:
• Prevent delinquency
• Increase safety and tranquility
• Improve quality of life
• Strengthen people’s sense of belonging to their neighbourhood
It’s free to join and only requires that you keep an eye on our
neighbourhood’s safety. We are the eyes of our police force.
ACTIVITIES
The evening meetings are open to all members
seeking information.
During these meetings, the committee members discuss
crime statistics, inform, and raise awareness through talks on
various topics.

Comptoir familial de Sherbrooke Inc.

Founded in 1959 by Caritas, the Comptoir familial de Sherbrooke
is a non-profit organization that receives no government grants.
Its mission is to receive clothing, tableware, and toys in good
condition graciously provided by donors and to sell them in its store
located at 151, rue Bowen Nord.
The store is open to everyone and offers a variety of quality
products at the lowest prices on the market. Its revenues are
distributed as financial support to various community organizations
in Sherbrooke.
The Comptoir familial also offers stop-gap services to people
referred by organizations by providing them with free clothing.
By recycling the clothes and various other items it receives, the
Comptoir familial gives a second useful life to these items and
therefore contributes to reducing pressure on the environment.

Volunteer tribute evening
Thank you to volunteers!
Festival des traditions du monde
de Sherbrooke The Festival’s success over the years has reflected the quality of the
work of its volunteers. More than 550 volunteers work relentlessly
to make this an event that brings the community together!
Volunteerism plays an extraordinary role in the Festival’s inner
workings. Volunteers provide invaluable help, and the time that
they give is key to the event’s success. The Festival des traditions du
monde de Sherbrooke would like to thank its volunteers for their
commitment and dedication.
Classique PIF Members of the local community are involved in and voluntarily
give their time to this event, which celebrated its 40th anniversary
this year. Each year, more than 150 volunteers help organize the
Classique Pif.
Some volunteers have been with the organization for several years
and some have been there for every edition. Their tremendous
contributions and commitment each year ensure the continuity of
activities, as well as the success of the event.
The Classique Pif would not be what it is today without the
involvement and dedication of its volunteers, who share a passion
for the community and for slo-pitch.

FEATURED ARTIST
Renée-Marthe Royer is a Sherbrooke artist. Initially attracted to
sculpture and acrylics, she recently returned to painting with a
focus on watercolour, an interest she developed while completing
a certificate in visual arts at the Université de Sherbrooke. Artist
and Professor Tiziana Tabbia Plomteux, whom she met during her
studies, had a great influence on her, which helped her refine her
own aesthetic. Renée-Marthe then pursued her artistic path with
artist Pierre Jeanson and was part of the group of watercolour
artists Aquarellistes du lundi for several years. A few “Coaching en
Folie” workshops with the artist Arseno rounded off her training.
With a father who is an architect and a mother who is a violinist,
Renée-Marthe was immersed in the cultural and art scene right
from the start; in fact, her father was her first drawing instructor!
Thriving in this environment conducive to creativity, she has
always loved enjoying new experiences and testing new art forms.
For example, she participated in the Art au Parfum, a contest for
which she had to draw inspiration from a perfume provided by the
organizers to create an original work of art. This very formative
exercise only confirmed her love for the arts and her constant search
for originality.
In addition to devoting time to her family, Renée-Marthe has
divided her energy between her passion for art and her career
in education. Trained in early childhood education, she taught
pre‑school for a few years before becoming an internship
supervisor in the Université de Sherbrooke’s Faculty of Education,
a position she has held for 25 years. Her duties have included
coordinating activities for Brin d’univers, the university’s
pre‑school. While in this position, she returned to her studies, first
in 1988 to complete a multidisciplinary certificate (which enabled
her to dive into the latest research in education), followed by a
visual arts certificate in 2001.
A member of the Artistes du Parvis for the past three or
four years, Renée-Marthe has long discreetly observed how
the group functions. This year, she decided to jump into the
action and she is now more involved, serving as Vice-President,
much to the group’s delight. Both in her involvement with the
Artistes du Parvis and her personal practice, Renée-Marthe hasn’t
stopped letting her creativity flow; we hope she’ll continue to
paint for many years to come!

Expected results
• Once a year, enable residents from the same neighbourhood
to meet each other in a festive setting that is conducive to
socializing. This activity helps break isolation, reinforce a sense of
belonging, and create connections between residents.
• Become an anchor point (gathering place) for socialization and
relaxation for residents, throughout the year.
• Become a driving force for rallying the community, for both local
organizations and residents. Serve as a reference group (channel
of communication, collaboration, and exchanges) for the Ville
(Borough).
Borough parties have almost become a must-attend event,
a tradition for each of the Borough’s neighbourhoods.

In 2010, the Borough council adopted a plan to adjust its actions
in the Borough’s parks and green spaces. These parks and green
spaces serve as neighbourhood gathering places and support
community life.
In 2012, the Ville de Sherbrooke adopted the master plan for parks,
which recommended that a comprehensive plan be created for
some of the Borough’s parks. In particular, it proposed moving some
of the infrastructure, developing open areas (playing, relaxation,
socializing), and reviewing spatial organization.
The Borough council would like to bring all sectors of the Borough
to life, particularly those that require increased support from the
city and in which we must act as leaders to rally the community.
To do so, the decision was made to organize neighbourhood
celebrations, in collaboration with local organizations and residents.
These neighbourhood parties had to be spread out across all
sectors of the Borough, taking into account the parks identified in
the master plan for parks (development potential) and the lack of
activities in these areas. The target clientele is, above all, families,
residents of the neighbourhood who live within a maximum radius
of 800 metres from the park.
Locations where neighbourhood parties will take place
• Parc Charland: First weekend in February, approximately,
2 to 6 p.m. Yes, during winter! There will be inflatable games,
sliding, street performers, fire pits to warm up, hot chocolate,
ice trails, a skating rink, entertainment, and fireworks to end an
afternoon of outdoor activities in style.
• Parc Couturier: Second weekend in July, approximately,
noon to 4 p.m. There will be inflatable games, snacks, face
painting for children, a street performer, and entertainment.
Great atmosphere forecast while the kids are on vacation.
• Parc du Debonair: Third weekend in August,
approximately, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. In 2015, there was a parade
of dogs in costumes, inflatable games, snacks, face painting for
children, a street performer, and entertainment. High spirits
prevailed in this vacation period just before the back-to-school
season.
• Parc de Marie-Reine-du-Monde: Fourth weekend in
August, approximately, noon to 4 p.m. There will be
inflatable games, snacks, face painting for children, a street
performer, and entertainment. What a way to celebrate going
back to school.
• Parc Édouard-Boudreau: Third weekend in September,
11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be inflatable games, face painting
for children, a street performer, corn, grilled cheese sandwiches,
entertainment, and singing. This will be a celebration of fall.

TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
We invite anyone who wants to cultivate a plot of land in a pleasant
and friendly setting to join us. Located at the corner of Lévesque
and Saint-François Nord, the Jardins communautaires Shermont has
over 80 plots, and some of them are available for next season.
A few facts about the community gardens
• Surface area of standard plots: 15 ft. by 20 ft. (4.47 m by 6.10 m);
half plots are also available
• Annual costs vary from $22 to $35
• Organic gardening without chemical products
• Organic compost provided
• Gardening tools provided
• Documentation on gardening provided
