Original * Handmade Local *
Thanks to a generous gift from Joe and Deb Conway and help from dozens of volunteers
BAYarts Shop has an all new look! Joe and Deb’s gift is in memory of Joe’s mother, Marge, mother
of 9, grandmother of 30 and great-grandmother of 15 and counting. Marge loved to shop and kept
a stash of items on hand in a spare room, when someone needed a gift, they would check “Marge’s
Shop,” so what a fitting way to carry on the tradition? “Marge’s Gallery Shop at BAYarts”
is better and brighter and will continue to carry the very best of local art year ‘round.
A special thanks to Bay Men’s Club,
Gertz Builders, Ron Rickard, Diana
Brewer,Mark Lapczenski and BAYarts
volunteers for being part
of this labor of love.
Watch for special artist events throughout the year. www.bayarts.net/shop
The mission of BAYarts is to provide a welcoming lakeside environment to stimulate, encourage and
support professional and aspiring artists of all ages through collaboration, education & exhibition.
Art, music, theater, great food and a beautiful view…

The Mini Arts & Nature Academy is an
inspired collaboration between BAYarts and
Lake Erie Nature & Science Center: two
beloved and well-respected institutions that
have been providing quality early childhood
enrichment programming for decades.
The concept behind the Academy is simple:
your child’s first academic experience
should excite and inspire. Our
preschoolers learn in a nurturing, creative
environment through play-based, multi-sensory,
hands-on activities which emphasize the
development of social skills, gross and fine
motor skills, movement and rhythm. We’ve
designed this nature and art inspired
curriculum to integrate with Ohio’s Early
Learning and Development Standards,
all while having FUN!

Composition, COLOR and Experiments in Water Media
with Mark E. Mehaffey
August 15, 16 & 17 from 9:00 am-4:00 pm
Nationally recognized artist and instructor, Mark E. Mehaffey will offer a fast paced, three day

advanced painter and give the advanced beginner to intermediate painter a solid foundation
on which to build a stronger visual statement. There will be a one hour lunch break each day.
•Day one will explore the answers to the question: “How can I make this a stronger
painting?” There are design and compositional tools we can use to make this happen.
•Day two is all about COLOR. Using neutrals and neutralized color to create mood,
using complements and saturated color and exploring analogous color
schemes will all be covered.
•Day three is an explosion of experiments. Paint intuitively using previous knowledge as a basis for current decisions. Explore textures, mono printing and painting on
slippery surfaces. Bring a smock!

Adding the Grisaille Technique
with Stanka Kordic - Building a foundation of
traditional skills is an important part of finding one’s
own individual voice as a painter. In this workshop,
Stanka will share a method she uses to begin many
of her paintings, the grisaille underpainting. This is a
variation of the age old method. We begin with a burnt
sienna toned panel, and paint the portrait using only raw
umber and white. Color is gradually added in transparent glazes, as
well as more opaque scumbling and impasto. This method gives a
stark realism to the portraits’ beginning, which can then be changed
in subsequent layers, if so desired. www.stankakordic.com
