PADDY’S FUND We have created a special new Medical Fund called “Paddy’s Fund” that will be used to help fund surgeries and medical care for our special needs animals. Paddy’s story....Paddy was adopted through the Dodge County Humane Society in April of 2011 and exemplifies the hardest of all shelter animals to adopt out. He was a senior (about 14 years old); his color was black; and he was a sick dog. He had been found wandering around the Dodge County Fair Grounds in January 2011 - a very cold and snowy winter. He had a very tight thick black leather collar on with no tags. He was dirty, he was thin, and he limped on his front left leg. He could not breathehe seemed to gasp for air with any activity. He was also heartworm positive. But despite all this, he was the sweetest dog imaginable. He loved people, even though people had not been kind to him. Paddy was a survivor and he survived the harsh treatment for his heartworm and a surgery to help him breathe normally. He lived with his adoptive parents another 12 months, probably the best year of his life. The day Paddy crossed over the Rainbow Bridge, his family was all there with him, outside at home, on a beautiful day. We have chosen to honor Paddy’s spirit through this special fund created in his memory. LEGACY ENDOWMENT FUND In an effort to secure the Dodge County Humane Society as a future resource that the animals and community can rely on, we have established the Dodge County Humane Society Legacy Endowment Fund. You can give cash, securities or other assets to the Legacy Endowment Fund now or as part of your estate. You can also setup honorary funds to let the memory of someone special live on. Your donation will help us create lasting solutions that celebrate the animals of Dodge County. MEMBERSHIP We need your help to continue to help the homeless and unwanted animals of Dodge County. By becoming a member, you provide invaluable support in sustaining Dodge County Humane Society as both a place to provide care and safety to animals and a place where the community can find the perfect companion. Membership also has its benefits – all members receive 25% off adoptions! THRIFT STORE Big news! We need more room to better serve the animals of Dodge County. This has led us to make the decision to close our thrift store. We thank everyone who came out and purchased items at our liquidation sale. Stay tuned – we hope to begin a remodel in 2015. CAT/KITTEN SPECIAL Every year the shelter gets in more cats and kittens than we have space for. In an effort to find all these precious animals the loving homes they deserve, we have waived all adoption fees on our feline friends. Come in today and meet the newest member of your family. RESCUE PARTNERS DCHS is very proud to be a nokill shelter. In an effort to save as many animals as possible, we have partnered with several over-crowded shelters that unfortunately have to euthanize animals on a regular basis. Since these partnerships began in February of 2014, we have rescued over 100 animals. ADOPTIONS We are proud to announce that in 2014 we have already DOUBLED our 2013 adoption numbers. A huge thank you to our dedicated staff and volunteers who made this possible. SPOTLIGHT ON JASMINE (FORMERLY RIZZO) When Jasmine, a rat terrier, first came to us, we noticed she was holding up one of her back legs. Our vet examined Jasmine and found an old fracture that never healed properly. We make sure our animals have every opportunity for a happy, healthy life, so we got her scheduled for surgery. Jasmine had weeks of rehab and recovery in her future. During that time, this special girl found her forever family. The Hughes came to the shelter almost daily to visit their girl and couldn’t wait to take her home. Unfortunately even with all the work, Jasmine’s leg didn’t recover and the decision was made to amputate. We think this made her new mom and dad love her even more. Even though we miss seeing the Hughes, we were so happy when they could finally take their Jasmine home. LUCKY AND CHANCE Everyone remembers this famous duo. These two are “lucky” to have found a wonderful forever family that felt strongly about keeping these two together. Their new family absolutely loves them and we couldn’t be happier they found each other. MIGHTY After spending more than a year at the shelter, Mighty was lucky enough to spend the day at American National Bank where he found his “purr”fect family. American National Bank recently had a cat adoption event and bake sale that raised over $600. We are thankful for business partners like this that are truly committed to our animals. Foster families Some of our animals just need the TLC that only a home can provide. We have kittens that need bottle feedings, dogs that need help recovering from a medical procedure and dogs that just need to learn what it means to be part of a family. Consider joining our foster network today. We promise you will make a huge difference in the life of an animal. Whispering Pines Fraser Wreaths & Trees recently held their annual holiday open house, which benefitted the Dodge County Humane Society. Mr. and Mrs. Claus were there, along with cookie decorating for the kids and lots of different farm animals for the kids to see and pet. Several of our adoptable animals made an appearance and were able to find their forever homes. We are very grateful for their generous support! A true animal lover Caroline Plasil recently celebrated her birthday by having her guests bring donations for the animals instead of gifts. We are so proud to have kids like Caroline supporting our mission. Extraordinary Donor Recently a young lady named Destiny was inspired by the Wisconsin Humane Society to develop a fundraiser of her own. Destiny went to local businesses to collect donations and prizes and organized her own 50/50 raffle. $250 was raised and donated by Destiny to our shelter. What an inspirational young lady with a genuine heart – thanks Destiny for all of your hard work! Spotlight on T-Bone T-Bone came to DCHS as a local stray. Upon examination, Dr. Jeff Hookstead of Marshview Veterinary Clinic discovered he had a heart murmur that warranted attention. We scheduled T-Bone for an echocardiogram at University of Wisconsin Veterinary Hospital. It was determined that this boy’s heart valve was partially collapsed and he would need to undergo surgery for this otherwise fatal heart problem. With the help of our generous supporters, we raised funds to get T-Bone his life saving surgery. We are so happy to report that T-Bone had a repeat echocardiogram on November 24 and his surgery was even more successful than the doctors had thought. Even better news – T-Bone has found his perfect forever family! He loves to play outside with his new human siblings and we love that with your help he is able to do this with no restrictions.
