Concerns linger over New London Hospital Ambulance
Town Administrator Kim Hallquist
noted that the recent New London Hospital correspondence was a surprise to some
of the other towns as there was no finality
to the earlier committee meetings. She
noted that Sunapee has requested a meeting with the Hospital to discuss the billing.
Chair Peter Bianchi was surprised that
Chief Lyon had not been contacted and
privy to this information as he was their
representative from the town.
Chief Jay Lyon said he was concerned
that there was only one backup ambulance
from 10am – 6pm and they have had to go
to Newport for ambulance services of late.
This is a huge issue. The Chief said at the
last meeting with MRI, the proposal was
to change the length of the contract from
five years and to rewrite it. MRI is done
and this is between the hospital and the
communities the hospital serves.
Hallquist noted that there was some
question about the reserve for the ambulance and if a town leaves, what do they do
with the money?
Lyon said that Grantham is thinking
about getting out and has contacted Lebanon to find information on the cost of their
services. It is hoped that Terry LeBlanc of
New London Hospital will agree to meet
with the towns’ administrators to work
this out.
Victoria Markarian from Sunapee accepts a scholarship from Barbara Brill, Executive Director
of Community Alliance of Human Services. Markarian will be pursuing a career in psychology
at the University of Maine Farmington this fall.

The HDMS Summer Reading Program was successful.
H-D Summer Library Program successful
The Hillsboro-Deering Middle School Summer Library Program
was a hit this year with many visitors to the library over the seven
consecutive Mondays thanks to the hard work of Susan Bearor,
HDMS Library Media Specialist. Students walked, or were dropped
off, with most of them staying for the four hours they were open.
The School Library Media Center had 165 visitors and 158 books
checked-out for the session. Most students used the Computer Lab
and the iPads.
Although the raffles and events did entice students to use the
School Library Media Center, just giving them a cool place during
the summer heat to come and relax where they could meet some
friends, and use the computer lab and the school iPads was just as
important. The last day of the program, seven students participated
in two book discussions. Some chose to read “Stargirl” by Jerry
Spinelli, and others read “The Red Kayak” by Pricilla Cummings.
Overall the program served 165 students and parents, with the
expenses totaling $120.00. This summer program was a great opportunity to excite kids about reading.
Tri-Town group hires new assessors
The towns of New London, Newbury and Sunapee have announced they have hired Cross Country Appraisal Group which will
be performing data verification on some properties that have not
been visited in five years or more. This process will begin on September 4th and continue until the selected list of properties has been
visited, which we expect to happen by January 15, 2013 or sooner.
This is not every property in each town but selected ones keeping
our collections of data in line for the 5 year mission. The data collectors will have identification, their vehicles will be marked, and CCAG
will be on their license plates. The Police Departments and Town
Offices will have this information in the event you have concerns.
Antrim Rec asks to build a pitching wall
Celeste Lunetta from the Anrtrim Recreation Committee has
asked the Selectmen for permission to build a pitching wall at Shea
Field in the spring. The Board was receptive but asked that a determination be made as to whether that is Town or school land.

over 75 craft booths will be set up for visitors. The
event raises funds for art programs and exhibitions.
The booths of traditional crafts will include pottery,
woodworking, blown glass, quilting, fiber arts, and
more. Live music will be performed throughout the day
by musicians Pete Merrigan, Second Wind & The Sugar
River String Band, and the Newport Firemen will hold a
chicken barbecue.

Desmond Ford of Hancock has announced that he is a Republican candidate for State Representative.
Complaints filed over New London range
Administrator Kim Hallquist brought up the issue of New London's shooting range. She noted that a local business owner called to
request that the town range not be used as it was adversely impacting his business. She and Police Chief David Seastrand discussed
this issue and he was agreeable to making sure there was no use by
his department during the time in question. Seastrand indicated
that he has been trying for several years to get fencing up to keep
people out to stop unauthorized shooting there, but Richard Lee
said he didn’t see a fence stopping people from going into the area
to shoot.
Seastrand said that only authorized New London Police Department personnel should shoot at the town range, however, there has
been evidence of others shooting there as well, which is very hard to
stop without a fence or signs that say “no trespassing.”

Chet Mitchell met with the Bradford Selectmen regarding the
Administrator having a key to the file cabinets in the Planning Board
office. As no decision has been made as yet Mitchell said he has
documented all the records that have occurred regarding the Right
to Know Law. He went on to say the Selectmen had passed a motion
for the Planning Board file keys to be turned over to the Administrator and at this time they have not insisted this be done. This is a
public access issue, it is the principle with him and he does not think
anyone should ask what you want the records for. He advised he
wanted to know what the Selectmen are going to do about it, and
if nothing, he will take action in Concord. Mitchell invited anyone
who would like to join him, to file a petition, an injunction against
the town or the committee that is blocking access and be under the
supervision of the court under the Right to Know law.
Pair of Bradford bridges due for repair
Administrator Cheryl Behr advised that Bradford has been
working with the State for many years on the Municipal Managed
Bridge Program. The cost estimate for the West Meadow Road
Bridge was seven hundred fifty five thousand dollars and the cost to
do the bridge at the end of Lake Massasecum was eight hundred and
some thousand dollars.
