Ben Widmann, New England Champion. Photo by John Widmann.
Henniker wrestler is New England Champ
This past weekend in North Andover, MA, Ben Widmann, an eighth
grader at the Henniker Community School, defeated five other wrestlers
to become the 2014 New England Champion of his weight class. Ben
had five tough matches and had to defeat the state champions from
Massachusetts and Rhode Island to win his bracket. His final match for
first place was especially difficult; he won in double overtime over the
Rhode Island state champion.

Spring Home Improvement
Go-anywhere upgrades that are great for kitchens and baths
Some upgrades look laughable in
the wrong room: plush carpeting in the
bathroom or custom drapes in a kitchen. A
handful of go-anywhere upgrades work especially well in kitchens and baths - and can
raise those rooms from merely functional to
inspiringly fashionable.
The right upgrades, however, enhance
both your home value and your enjoyment
of two of the most important rooms in any
house. If you're looking for an upgrade that
will work equally well in your kitchen or
bath, consider these improvements:
Few upgrades fit equally well in a
bathroom or kitchen, but a skylight affords
unique benefits to either room. In baths,
fresh air skylights admit natural light and
provide passive ventilation while providing
more privacy than windows.
In kitchens, they can reduce the need
for artificial lighting and help carry moist
air and cooking fumes out of the room.
What's more, skylights can help enhance
a home's overall energy efficiency. Energy
Star-qualified solar powered fresh air
skylights, like those made by Velux America
reduce dependency on artificial lighting and
mechanical ventilation.
Paired with remote-controlled solar
powered blinds, the skylights become even
more efficient, stylish, and affordable, since
both products, as well as installation costs,
qualify for a 30 percent Federal tax credit.

Spring Home Improvement
Decorating with light captures the fresh spirit of spring
There's no debating the benefits of natural light for boosting
mood. After dark, short winter days, spring brings abundant sunshine, and you can put all that natural light to work in your home.
Boost daylighting by lightening up window treatments to admit as
much sunshine as possible, choose fresh paint colors that interplay
well with the direction from which light enters a room, and consider
adding skylights to rooms that demand drama or where adding a
window isn't practical.
A relatively low cost home improvement that can be accomplished by a professional in a day or two or over a single weekend,
adding a skylight not only enhances home decor, it delivers energysaving benefits as well. Skylights can help reduce dependence on artificial lighting - saving money on electricity bills. And, if you choose
an ENERGY STAR certified solar-powered, fresh-air skylight like
those made by Velux America and add remote-controlled, solarpowered blinds, you can improve the skylight's energy performance
rating by as much as 45 percent while improving indoor air quality
through the venting effect of open skylights (which close automatically in case of rain). Solar-powered skylights and blinds qualify for
a 30 percent federal tax credit, as does the cost of installation. Visit
