Kayliegh`s fitness vow
Kayliegh’s fitness vow
Kayliegh Graham, from
Ashton, took a vow to
change her lifestyle before
her wedding in October and
is still going strong today.
She said: “I knew I had to wear
the white dress and I’m not a
dress person anyway so I wanted
to feel comfortable. When I
bought my dress it didn’t fit me,
but I was determined and when I
tried it on before the wedding it fit
perfectly without any alterations.”
Kayliegh joined Active Ashton 2
years ago and is now 1 pound
away from losing 8 and a half
stone.
She said: “I’ve come here on and
off for years and managed to lose
a couple of stone but then put it
back on again because I didn’t
keep up the exercising.
“This time I am doing mainly
dancing like Clubbercise, Moky
Fit, Tone and Shape and Piloxing
and because I like them I stick
with them and that is the key. I
used to do the gym and it wasn’t
for me so I was always clock
watching.”
Kayliegh began to put on weight
after her Mum became ill and she
became a carer.
She said: “I looked at my before
picture last night and it’s great to
see the progress I have made,
but it is also hard to see because
it makes me wonder how I ended
up there. I think when my mum
became ill I just put looking after
myself on the back burner.”
Kayliegh now wants to spread
her message of the benefits of
physical activity and will soon be
doing Glow in the Park 5k with
her Clubbercise group.
She said: “It feels great, I still
can’t get used to people paying
me compliments, it’s hard to take
in
“I think the instructors are fab,
especially Steph Mallett, she is
so helpful and understanding. It’s
like a community here and we

From zero to thirty for Ashton running group
An Ashton group have achieved
their running dreams with Active
Tameside’s Couch to 5k.
Over 9 weeks the group of 16 have
built up to running for 30 minutes
straight.
The group use the track at the
home of the East Cheshire Harriers
and Tameside Athletic Club.
Kimberley Moore, from Droylsden,
said: “Before this I couldn’t run at
all, I would go to the gym, but I felt
I was rubbish at running and could
never see myself doing it. Now I am
taking part in the Great Manchester
Run and that is something that I
have always wanted to do.”
Droylsden woman, Annette Walton,
added: “The progress has been
unbelievable. I haven’t run since I
was at school. I’ve recently lost 10
stone and it has been a big boost to
that and getting me exercising.
“I found it really difficult at first,
there was no way I could run a
minute, but now I’m at 30 minutes
and I’m going to enter the Race for
Life.”
The group are so enthusiastic that
they are continuing to run together
even though the course has ended.
Julie Sykes, from Ashton, said:
“I’ve never been able to run and I
got to 50 last year and thought if I
don’t do it now I never will so I gave
it a go and I love it, I look forward to
it every week.”
Diane Davies, from Droylsden,
added: “I was really nervous when
I first started because I couldn’t run
and felt out of breath just trying. It’s
really motivating to see how other
people are progressing alongside
you and having them support you
as you go along. It’s great to see
people with their hands in the air as
they get to 25 minutes.
“I’ve certainly gained a lot of
confidence from it, I am even going
into the gym on my own and I did
Gung-Ho, the 5k obstacle course
recently.”
