Réalisée à Mayence entre 1452 et 1455 sous la responsabilité de
Johannes Gutenberg et de ses associés, Johann Fust et Pierre
Schoeffer, la Bible de Gutenberg se compose de deux volumes au
format in-folio (ce qui signifie que chaque feuille achetée au papetier
n'était pliée qu'une fois, ce qui permet d'imprimer des pages de
grandes dimensions) de 324 et 319 feuillets. Elle reproduit le texte de
la Vulgate, c'est-à-dire la Bible latine traduite par saint Jérôme :
l'Ancien Testament occupe le premier volume, qui contient aussi
l'ensemble du Nouveau Testament.

1394–1405Gutenberg wird in diesem Zeitraum (vielleicht auch erst
1408) als Mainzer Bürger geboren.
1420–1428 Hält sich auf jeden Fall 1420 und 1427/28 in Mainz auf
1430 Ist aus Mainz „ausgefahren“.
1434–1444 Lebt in (der Nähe von) Straßburg und leitet
verschiedene Geschäftsgemeinschaften, die auch mit dem
„Drucken“ zu tun haben.
1448–1457 Lebt in Mainz, hat eine Geschäftsgemeinschaft
gegründet und druckt die Bibel.
1455 Im Notariat des Ulrich Helmasperger wird beglaubigt, dass
Fust Gutenberg eine Summe von 1550 Gulden vorgestreckt habe,
die er selber habe leihen und zu sechs Prozent verzinsen müssen.
Das Darlehen war also von Gutenberg mit Zinsen (insgesamt 2020
Gulden) an Fust zurückzuzahlen. Da Gutenberg der Aufforderung
nicht nachkommen konnte, musste er die Druckerwerkstatt mit den
fast fertigen Bibeln, die er als Sicherheit eingesetzt hatte, an Fust
übergeben, der die Arbeit Gutenbergs zu Ende brachte.
1465 Adolf II. von Nassau, Erzbischof von Mainz, ernennt
Gutenberg mit Urkunde vom 17. Januar 1465 in der Kurfürstlichen
Burg zu Eltville zum Hofedelmann und lässt ihm ein Hofkleid, 2180
Liter Korn und 2000 Liter Wein übersenden.
1468 Gutenberg wird nach seinem Tod in Mainz beigesetzt.

In the early 1980s, a fifth component was
added to these four "classic" bases, called
methyl-cytosine (mC), which is derived from
cytosine. Then, in the late 1990s, mC was
recognized as the main cause of epigenetic
mechanisms. Meaning, it can switch genes on
or off depending on the physiological needs of
each tissue.
In recent years, researchers have studied this
fifth DNA base in more detail because it
seems alterations in the mC base contribute
to the development of many human diseases,
including cancer.
Now, according to new findings published in
the journal Cell, a sixth possible DNA base
may also exist. Called methyl-adenine (mA),
this potential DNA base may also help
determine the epigenome and would
therefore be key in the life of the cells.
