Letter from the President-Elect
Dear Brothers & Sisters in Community in the Chagrin Valley,
I am deeply honored to be the 2015 president of our beloved Chagrin
Valley Chamber of Commerce. I’ve sat on this board for about 13 years
now and have seen it grow from an almost bankrupt organization, to
the strong, thoughtful, active and financially sound organization it is
today of over 500 members. I’ve been privileged to be involved with
many boards and organizations, but none stronger and more
committed than the people on this one.
In 2014, I headed up a Long Range Planning Committee made up
of past presidents and dedicated board members. We hired a terrific Photo by Palmieri’s Fine Art
facilitator and had a 5 hour retreat on an October Saturday. We took Photography & Custom Framing
a reading of where we were and charted our path for where we wanted
to be and the questions we want to answer in the next 3-5 years. During the next few years,
we will continue this quest to keep the organization strong, growing and responsive to our
members’ needs and desires.
One of the major goals which surfaced from that retreat was an exuberant “Shop the Valley”
campaign. Our ultimate goal is to have everyone spend their money, here at home. It’s been
proven over and over that a great majority of the dollars spent in the Valley, stay in the Valley
and help our local economy stay strong. Another way of looking at it is, if we don’t support our
local businesses with our dollars spent, they may not be around and we’d lose a lot of the fabric
of our beautiful lifestyle here.
Another main goal this year is to continue to expand our member services and responding to
your needs. We need your feedback and input. I call on all of you to contribute to our Chamber
by joining a committee, participate in our networking events, learn from our breakfasts, lunches
and pop-up educational sessions. Together we can continue to help make business thrive in
the Chagrin Valley.

Community Spotlight
Each month we’re going to introduce you to one (or 2) of our 13 communities in the Chagrin
Valley to help our members learn more about the communities the Chamber represents.
Auburn Township is a semi-rural community located in the southwest corner
of Geauga County. We embrace true country style living but offer the perfect
balance of residential, commercial, and industrial growth. The township
is about 5 miles square and houses approximately 6,443 residents and is
proud to be a part of the Kenston School system. According to the 2010
census, Auburn Township has the highest rate of growth of all 16 Geauga
County townships.
Township Trustees, Michael S. Troyan, Patrick J. Cavanagh, and John A. Eberly and Fiscal
Officer Fredrick May meet at 7:30 pm on the first and third Monday of every month at the
administration building, 11010 Washington Street (corner of Washington and Auburn Road).
Meetings are open to the public. If you would like to be added to the agenda to express
an opinion or concern, please call the office at (440) 543-7028.
Visit Auburn Township and take a walk in our newly installed nature trail at Auburn Community
Park (17484 Munn Road) or call the office to inquire about renting Adam Hall Community
Center (11455 Washington Street) for your special event or reserving Town Hall (11000
Washington St.) for a shower, birthday party or meeting.
Bentleyville is a small village of approximately 900 residents.
The Village is about four square miles and is part of the
Chagrin Falls School system. Quietly nestled in the Chagrin
Valley, we have beautiful parks, large lots, and we have great
access to nearby shopping, recreational attractions, and Downtown Cleveland. Community
activities, such as the summer Bentleyville Picnic and the December Holiday Lighting
Ceremony provide opportunities for residents to gather, have fun, and make friends.
Mayor Leonard Spremulli and his staff feel that because of their size, Village residents have
the opportunity to know members of the police department and service department on a first
name basis and the residents enjoy the special attention the members of these departments
are able to give to them.
The Emerald Necklace of the Cleveland Metro-Parks System winds through our Village. Major
picnic areas are Sulphur Springs, Squaw Rock, Table Rock and the Shelter House picnic
grounds. The Arboretum, sledding, ski trails, jogging, bicycle paths, and bridle trails are
just a few of the many activities the Metro-Parks has to offer our residents.
New Program - Networking on the Go
We are excited to introduce a new twist on
networking… “Networking on the Go”. We will be
hosting a mini-bus trip every other month. Members
will network on the way to a pre-determined
location in a 14 passenger mini-bus, enjoy networking
and fun at selected destination and then network
on the way home! These trips are limited to 14
members each trip and reservations will be taken
on first-come, first-serve basis following the emailed
invitation. Dates scheduled are: January 28 to
the Rocksino, March 25 to TBD, May 27 to TBD,
July 22 to Hiram College, September 30 to TBD
and November 11 to TBD.
First Networking on the Go will be kicked off
on January 28 and the destination will be the
Rocksino. Cost is $15 and includes a $10 preloaded
free play card for gambling. First 12 people who
respond to the invite get the spots! Meet at
Township Hall at 5:30 pm; bus to leave promptly
at 5:45 pm; leave Rocksino at 8:30 pm; return to
Township Hall by 9:00 pm.
Sponsor opportunity – the cost is only $100 (one
sponsor for each date). As a sponsor you can
request a specific business category of members
to network with, you get a reserved seat on the
mini-bus, are able to introduce yourself and your
company or service at the beginning of the trip
and pass out your business information during
the drive. What a great opportunity to personalize
your networking.
