It is imperative to pay attention to what
you believe about yourself because it is going to create your life experience. You will

LCHS senior selected for “Service Above Self Award”
Every year, The Rotary Club of Peoria-North honors high school
seniors with the “Prescott Bloom Service Above Self Award.” This year, the Rotary
selected nine area senior high school students based on a record of outstanding service to
their school and community exemplifying “service above self.” These students logged
hundreds of volunteer hours within their own schools and communities over the last four
years. LCHS senior, Josh Hardy, was one of the students selected to receive this year’s
award.
Josh was awarded and honored at the Rotary’s weekly luncheon on March 13,
2014. He received an award certificate and a $250 scholarship. Josh is the son of Diane
Siegwarth and Jason Alt. Congratulations to Josh on earning this prestigious award!

winning by 33.5 points ahead of the second place finisher.
Senior Dustin Cart—1st Place!
Junior Sam Johnson—5th Place!
LCHS senior Dustin Cart and LCHS junior Sam Johnson
participated in the Illinois Skills USA welding competition that was
held April 3-5, in Springfield, Illinois.
Dustin placed first in state and Sam placed
fifth, and both of them competed in the
college division. They had to use blueprints and read welding symbols to properly complete the project for the competition.
The project used a variety of electrodes
and had all four welding positions (flat,
horizontal, vertical, and overhead). Skills
USA is an organization which provides the
opportunity to participate in regional activities, state leadership conferences, use of professional development
curriculum and competition in the state Skills USA Championships,
which are based on technical standards set up by business and industry. Dustin will go on to compete in the national Skills USA welding competition to be held in June compliments of Illinois Central
College. Congratulations to both Dustin and Sam!
